Paris By Appointment

yellow-couture-dressWant the inside track on one of the most famous cities in the world, containing information that won’t be found in your Fodor’s, Lonely Planet, or Frommer’s guide?  Want to know where to find that special “something” that you can only find in Paris?  Check out Paris by Appointment, a new site created by Zeva Bellel, a native New Yorker, with a special attachment to Paris, who has been living and working there for the past ten years, as a journalist and trend researcher.

During her travails, Zeva began learning about a number of secret artisans and craftsmen who offered specialized services and products in Paris.  Among these artisans and craftsmen include Hidden Kitchen, an underground supper club serving elaborate meals of ten course meals with wine pairings at an American chef couple’s cozy Parisian apartment, Guy Chanel, a former saddlemaker for Hermes who now produces his own logo-less unique leather crafted goods of exceptional quality, and  Mr. Ho, a medicure specialist so renowned that counts Catherine Deneuve among his clients.  The catch with these artisans and craftsmen?  Much of their contact information, location, are secret and by appointment only.  Thankfully, Zeva shares all of this information on her blog, including a description of exactly what makes these people so special.

My favorite among her finds is Chavernet Paris, an haute couture design house who specializes in the philosophy of ONE WOMAN=ONE DRESS.  Come to Chavernet to get a perfectly fitted, original silk dress constructed, according to your exact specifications and measurements, created by some of the most treasured and talented Parisian dressmakers.  The dress in the picture above is just one example of their handiwork.  Think about getting the dress that is in your fantasies actually become reality, by working hand in hand with the Chavernet commercial director, who will help you conceptualize your dream, created using high quality end of season couture fabric.

Getting a personal couture fitting session at Chanel, John Galliano, Jean Paul Gaultier, or any of the prime haute couture houses can run upwards of millions of dollars.  The price at Chavernet in comparison is relatively tame, with 1000E-1500E, depending upon the design and the complexity.

I am definitely planning on visiting some of Paris by Appointment’s finds on my next trip and can’t wait to check them out.  You can visit her website here.
