Ultimate Red

Estee Lauder’s new holiday collection, Ultimate Red, is all about gold nudes and rich red shades accented by touches of shimmer on eyes and lips. It’s a big collection (and I love all of it!) but here are a few of the things that you’re not going to want to pass up.

My big must have from the collection is the limited edition TurboLash in Gold Effects. I was one of those people who was really skeptical of vibrating mascara, but it’s turned out to be one of my favorite makeup inventions in recent memory. I’ve been using the black TurboLash since it came out and I’m a big fan, but I’m loving the new shade. It’s a really pretty mix of bronze and gold and I’ve been layering it over a coat of the black shade for a night time look that’s simple and eye-catching. What I like about it is that it’s different, but subtle – it’s not like wearing glitter on your lashes where you look like you’re heading out for a night at the Limelight in the 80’s. It doesn’t jump out at you, but when the light catches it, the shimmer is gorgeous and totally festive. (And it looks great with a brown smoky eye). Limited edition products are usually gone before you know it though, so move quickly on this one before you’re forced to search eBay to locate a tube.

For lips, I’m loving the Simply Red lipstick. I’m forever on a hunt for the perfect red lipstick and I really like this one. It’s bright, but not so bold that it takes over your face and winds up being the only thing that anyone notices. The formula doesn’t dry out my lips and it comes in the prettiest gold tube. I’ve been layering it with my other favorite product from the collection, the Opulent Shimmer Gloss in Cranberry. The gloss is fairly sheer, which I really like because if you wear it alone you get a more subtle red color, but when it’s layered with Simply Red, the shimmer in it makes the red even more vibrant. The gloss makes my lips super shiny and the packaging is even prettier than the lipstick, in my opinion. It’s so festive with the gold design – it just begs to be taken out in public for a touch up.
