Beauty, MakeupGloss Yourself

For all you lip gloss lovers (and those of you who have to buy gifts for lip gloss lovers) you definitely need to check out Fusion Beauty’s Fusion LipFusion Essentials Set.  The set of six purse-sized glosses is great for adding color to your own lip wardrobe, but the shades are basic enough that if you give them as a gift, you don’t have to worry that they won’t be wearable on the recipient.  The shades included range from a light pink to a basic nude to a cheerful coral, and the set also has a Clear gloss that you can use on top of any lipsticks you already own.  They also go on fairly sheer, so they’re perfect for daytime (or paired with a smoky eye at night). What’s nice about the LipFusion glosses are that they help to plump your lips a little bit without any of the stinging feeling that happens with a lot of lip products designed for that purpose.  (I personally don’t mind the stinging, but I know that feeling stops a lot of people from buying anything that even remotely hints at having a plumping element and you don’t have to worry about that with these glosses).  This set would make the perfect stocking stuffer for any of your female relatives – after you buy one for yourself, of course!

Beauty, NailsSleigh of Hand

Everyone likes to shimmer and shine during the holidays, but sometimes it’s a little hard to find ways to do that without making yourself look like you’re heading out to a disco.  So I’m always looking for subtle touches to add a little sparkle to my wardrobe.  Right now, I’m getting it from the new polishes from Sephora by OPI’s holiday collection.  The six shades were all inspired by the magic of the season and range from the classic bright red to the funkier dark green.  Here’s what you’ll find in the Sleigh of Hand collection:

  • Meet for Drinks – shimmering magenta plum
  • Sample Sale – warm candy apple
  • High Maintenance – bright orange red
  • Absinthe Makes Heart – smoky dark gray with green and iridescent glitter
  • Untarnished Image – clear with large and small silver glitter
  • Worth My Weight – gold with iridescent and silver glitter

The first three shades have been available before, but the three glitter shades are brand new.  They’re all super sparkly and shimmery, but they manage to do it in a sophisticated way, not in a way that makes you look like a 12 year-old who just discovered nail polish.  I’m currently wearing Worth My Weight on my toes, where it looks fun and very holiday-esque in heels.  Absinthe Makes Heart was my most recent manicure choice and it’s so pretty on my nails – a funky twist on your standard dark shade.  I have a feeling I’ll be wearing these for many holiday seasons to come! Available at Sephora.com.

Forgot to get something new to wear for that holiday party? Don’t have something for that special night out with friends before you all head home? Order the Heidi Sequin Tank by Son of John, stat!  This sparkly number will jazz things up easily for you.

We love this scoopneck tank, made of 100% silk georgette and decorated with sparkly paillettes.  The racerback adds a sexy and sporty touch.  Slip it underneath a blazer and jeans for a more casual night out with friends, or tuck it into a slim and simple pencil skirt for a glam and elegant look. Either way, this is flirty, fun and definitely holiday-worthy!

Available at Shopbop in three colors (all on sale!): Marble, Pavement and Plywood.

AccessoriesZibba Bags

HUGE_fechosThere’s no question that Brazil has got it going on.  They have beautiful beaches, one of the most fabulous parties in the world (Carnival–I hope to go someday!), the best flip flops in my opinion (Havianas) and seem to produce  an incredible crop of Victoria’s Secret supermodels who make shedding 9 month pregnancy weight look as easy as Tiger Woods appears to acquire mistresses.

Add  Zibba (“Creativity” in indigenous Brazilian), a new handbag brand, as further evidence with unique, finely made bags that are designed and handmade in Rio de Janeiro and crafted out of fine leather.  Something versatile, but special, is the shopping mantra I use when selecting a handbag, and Zibba’s Marie handbag completely fits this criteria, with a inimitable design that won it the Independent Handbag Designer of the Year Award, as bestowed by an illustrious panel of juges including Carlos Falchi and Devi Kroell.

I love its bohemian inspired slouchy look with its softly rounded edges that gently hugs the body, with slightly exposed contrasting zippers, that give it just a bit of edge.  I’m confident that this could be my new, everyday bag–an illustrious honor of my own that hasn’t been bestowed by me since my Foley and Corinna Mid-City bag as of 2 years ago.  The true test will be how much room in the bag is left after I stow a pair of Stuartz Weitzman heels inside.

Zibba is making its US debut at Saks Fifth Avenue, and is also available in black.  Even as a US import, it’s moderately priced for a luxury handbag at $650.

Beauty, FragranceCLEAN Up

I’m such a big fan of CLEAN fragrances.  They’re sort of my go to scents.  I’ve written about them on TDO a bunch of times and every time they release a new one, I get super excited.  (It’s kind of sad, actually.  I might need to get out more).

As much as I love them though, I hate to travel with them.  Mostly just because I’m always worried that someone’s going to toss my suitcase onto the plane and break the bottle, making me lose not only my perfume, but also ruining whatever else in my luggage it spills on.  So I was very happy to spot the CLEAN Coffret Set on my last visit to Sephora.  The set includes four 1 ounce Eau de Parfum sprays in Original, Warm Cotton, Shower Fresh, and Simply Soap, so you get a wide variety of the CLEAN scents.  (I love Shower Fresh, but I still hold a special place in my heart for the Original scent since it’s what led me to fall in love with the CLEAN brand).  Best of all, the entire set is only $65 (it’s a $152 value).  At that price, it’s a total bargain.  Those of you who haven’t tried any CLEAN fragrances yet can get a great sampling and those of us who have (a.k.a. me), can take the smaller sizes with us when we travel.  It’s scent perfection!

Beauty, FragrancePerfumed Water

As you can imagine, we come across many fragrances over the year and therefore, are quite picky.  Especially for me, I’m not easily swayed from my favorites. It really takes something special for me to start using something new on a regular basis. Well…it recently happened when I received a bottle of Tocca’s Salina Aqua Profumata.

Profumata means perfumed water in Italian – so don’t expect it to be a full on perfume. Instead, spray it like a body mist! Though there are three fragrances in this collection, Salina is the floral scent inspired by Southern Italy.  Expect a floral mix of jasmine and iris on top of fruitier notes like raspberry, orange and peach. There’s an undercurrent of musk and clove as well. The combination of these notes creates a sweet scent that is a bit powdery in the finish, but still fresh.

The Profumatas are perfect for anyone who likes their scents to be subtle and linger softly during the day.  Plus, the price tag can’t be beat…only $38 for a bottle!

Available at Sephora.com.

FoodSiggi’s Icelandic Style Skyr

Between Thanksgiving feasts, company parties, Christmas cookies, and celebrations with friends, the average American consumes an extra 600 calories every single day between Thanksgiving and New Years! That being said, it’s important to squeeze in as many healthy meals and foods (and workouts!) as possible during this indulgent-filled time, with my personal recommendation of Siggi Icelandic yogurt! Beauty, SkincareFresh Effects

Looking for a lip balm that is creamy and moisturizing, without leaving your lips feeling waxy and weird? Look no further than the latest from ChapStick called Fresh Effects. Fresh Effects ChapSticks are formulated differently than the regular kind, resulting in a creamier, softer consistency. It actually contains 13 different moisturizing ingredients aimed at keeping lips completely hydrated.

It also leaves a subtle, minty tingling sensation on your lips as it moisturizes–which feels especially great in the harsher winter weather. It’s available in a Refreshing Mandarin or Invigorating Green Tea Mint flavor, and I’m partial to the former as it tastes like a yummy orange creamsicle. You can find ChapStick Fresh Effects at Walgreens or your local drugstore. Visit chapstick.com for more info!

The Daily Obsession draws from the expertise of a coast-to-coast editorial team offering dedicated readers reports of the most luxurious products and trends.
