Sponsored Post: Weekly Buzz from ELLE

Happy Weekend!  Here are our favorites from Elle Magazine & Elle.com this week!

All of my friends know about my obsession with Alexander Wang. In fact, they often message/call/IM me when they find some good A.Wang that reminded me of them.  If you share a similar love of the designer’s modern but chic pieces, be sure not to miss everything Alexander Wang (Designer Files).

Red Carpet Treatment by Dr. Gabriel Chiu

It’s awards season, and with the Grammys and the Oscars around the corner, you know what that means — skin treatment specials galore!

Now I must confess, I love spas but I’m not a plastic surgery & medi-spa guru … at least not through firsthand experience. I’m still trying to stomach the idea of injecting a filler into my slowly hollowing face. Thankfully, I’ve been able to live vicariously through others by tagging along on their Botox visits, post-surgery checkups and laser treatments. And after visiting beautiful medi-spas all over L.A., I can tell you — if this magical courage were to come — where I would go: Beverly Hills Plastic Surgery, Inc., featuring the talented and very personable Dr. Gabriel Chiu.

One Step Makeup

I’m (very) lazy in the mornings, so anything that can speed up my getting ready routine without making me look worse is a must have in my book.  When I heard about Stila’s new One Step Makeup, I was totally intrigued.

It’s four steps put into one container – it acts as a primer, foundation, concealer and powder all in one.  I was skeptical when I first heard the claims, but I have to admit, it’s pretty close to replacing my arsenal of products.  It’s a sort of creamy, almost mousse-like texture that you pump out of a bottle and a little goes a long way.  (I much prefer this method of foundation application because I find that I waste so much less).  It goes on fairly sheerly – I expected it to be a lot heavier, but I like that it feels light on my face and doesn’t make me look like I’m wearing a mask.  It evens out my skin tone and covers everything I want to cover, but for me, I’ve still been using an under eye concealer as well during the week because I haven’t been getting a lot of sleep and my dark circles need a little extra help.  (But that’s kind of an extreme case – I think that most people would be fine just using the One Step Makeup in the morning).  It’s also made with 100% mineral pigments and wears very well.  I usually put it on at around 8am and my skin still looks pretty good when I leave work at the end of the day, so I consider that a great payoff.

It’s available in eight different shades, so you should be able to find your perfect match pretty easily.  Check out the shades yourself at www.stilacosmetics.com.

Be A Heartbreaker

I love the beginning of the year when all the new spring makeup collections start coming out.  I’m always interested in new makeup shades, but there’s something about the spring ones signaling the coming end of winter and the beginning of better weather that makes them especially fun to me.  After months of wearing darker shades, I’m ready to get lighter again!  One of the first ones that I’ve stumbled across is the new Heartbreaker collection from Smashbox. Mood Swings

If I had to pick a favorite lip gloss shade, it would be pink.  I probably have dozens of pink glosses and choosing favorites would be way too hard.  Lately though, I’ve found myself reaching for Too Faced’s Mood Swing shades.  They’re available in four different colors/flavors – the Original is a strawberry flavor, the Berry Pink is a grape sweet berries flavor, Petal Pink tastes like strawberries, and Pink Shimmer gives off the fruity blueberry aroma.

The twist to this product is that the glosses are supposed to be emotionally activated and turn into different pink shades depending on your mood.  It’s hard for me to say whether this part of them works or not, mainly because I find it a lot more difficult than you would think to judge what mood I’m in and if it’s different than it was the last time I put the gloss on.  (I mean, in the morning, I would say my mood is “sleepy,” but how does that relate to say, “annoyed” if I’m applying it in traffic?  I really have no idea).  What I can say is that the colors are distinctive – the Berry Pink is definitely more purple on me and the Pink Shimmer is decidedly more frosty and shimmery than the others, so that alone makes these worth it to me.  I also really like how moisturizing they are (due to the Shea Butter, Jojoba Seed Oil, and Vitamin E) and I’m a total sucker for a gloss that smells good, which all of these do.  If you’re a fellow pink gloss fan, these are a definite must see!
