Keeping Your Color Fresh

I color my hair, so I’m always looking for a good shampoo and conditioner duo that will clean and detangle my hair without stripping it of the darker shade I’ve paid good money to achieve. Although I’ve used a few drugstore brands that I’ve been okay with, my current favorite is Kelly Van Gogh’s Daily Caviar Shampoo and Daily Caviar Conditioner. Kelly is a renowned colorist whose products are all designed to keep your color looking great for as long as possible and I’ve found that they really deliver.

Both the shampoo and conditioner are packed full of amino acids, caviar proteins, keratin proteins, mica shine minerals and a complete moisture enriching system so they actually help fight all the damage that most of us do to our hair on a daily basis. (It really is shocking how much better my hair looks when I don’t blow dry it for awhile). They’re designed to work together in what Kelly calls a “Color Definition System.” It uses a lock and key ingredient building block structure, which means that when you use the shampoo and conditioner together, it magnifies the result that you would get if you used them separately. I’ve been testing them out for a couple weeks now and I’m loving the results. While it’s admittedly sometimes hard to tell how well these kinds of products are preserving your color, I’m definitely noticing that my dark brown shade has stayed rich and vibrant, which means a lot because it’s been over four months since I last had it touched up and the color’s usually a lot more faded at this point. The other thing I really like about the duo is that while they’re saving the color, they’re also leaving my hair soft and shiny and tangle-free. That’s what really sold me on them – I’ve used products for color-treated hair before that left my hair looking (to put it nicely) rough. That’s a deal breaker and definitely not happening here. The Daily Caviar duo are a little on the pricey side – the shampoo is $28 and the conditioner $32 – but considering the price it costs to see my stylist for a coloring, anything that can extend the time between visits is well worth it to me.
