It’s about time I wrote about Delphine, the delightful brasserie, or “eatery and bar,” in the new W Hollywood Hotel and Residences, helmed by Executive Chef Sascha Lyon (Balthazar, Pastis, Sascha). I’ve stopped there for brunch and cocktails several times now, and it’s proven to be a delightful, relaxing culinary experience — not to mention a good ol’ time. What’s so charming? Perhaps it’s the decor, inspired by the French Riviera — if it were a screen-grab from “Et Dieu…Créa La Femme,” “To Catch a Thief” or “Bonjour Tristesse” (after all, we are still in Hollywood). Grandiose porthole-like mirrors seemingly anchor the muted, marine-colored banquets while multiple Big Ass Fans softly whir above; the effect is cozy by day, trendy by night. Or perhaps its the international mix of patrons, from tourists and families to Hollywood’s class-hungry scenesters. It’s certainly the gorgeous, stylishly dressed waitstaff — who are friendly and modest to boot, not to mention able to describe the pancakes right down to the unique sweetness of the batter. And it’s definitely the food — so satisfying.

Last we visited, my husband and I shared the Croque Madame (of which I’m always thrilled to see any restaurant’s interpretation) and the Apple Hazelnut Crostada (ice cream and goat cheese unite!), complemented with a round of refreshing mimosas. All the while, I eyeballed the crustacean offerings penned in cursive on the mirrored walls. You’d better believe I’m coming back for an evening of wine, people-watching and the “petit” seafood platter. (And next time, I’m bringing my LBD.)
