If you follow TDO or any one of our Twitters, you’ll know that we are huge fans of beauty and style guru Jenn Falik. There’s often a ton of chatter amongst TDO editors about Jenn, and what we love about her (everything!) We were super excited when she launched her own show on MSN, Beauty BFF, since as far as we were concerned-the more Jenn the better! A few weeks ago we had the chance to chat with Jenn to learn more about her show and to get some fashion & beauty BFF advice for ourselves (and get a peek into her fabulous closet)!
TDO: How do you come up with segment ideas for Beauty BFF? Can viewers submit questions?
JF: Segment ideas are inspired by the things that I personally am curious about- I look at every segment I do no matter what it is for as an excuse to do research and master something new. For example- we have a segment on hair extensions because I am dying to get them and want to know what my options are. I also can’t blow my own hair out for the life of me, so I went to Oscar Blandi to learn his technique. I also wanted to do segments that give a peek inside the industry- especially sharing stories behind products I love. Maybe I’m a beauty nerd, but I always find the stories behind brands and what goes in to product development and even packaging decisions to be completely fascinating! Additionally, viewers are invited to submit questions to email@example.com and hopefully I can answer them in a future episode.
What are some future topics Beauty BFF will cover?
You will see an episode on Beauty Breakthroughs, mastering the Perfect Ponytail, International Beauty Secrets and one of my favorites is a segment we did on cult beauty products- shedding light on indie under the radar brands that offer very cool things that beauty insiders swear by.
And what is your Beauty BFF (all time favorite product?)
Oooh- that is a tough one! Well, I guess it would have to be the one product I wear pretty much every single day and have since high school- Stila Kitten Eyeshadow. It is the perfect rose gold hue, just the right amount of sparkle, and the texture of the formula is flawless. One swipe on each lid wakes up my entire face.
What’s the one piece of advice that a true Beauty BFF would give?
Get a spray tan before putting on a bathing suit. And get a professional blowout before a job interview. I know- they cost money and they are time consuming. But they make all the difference. And now, you can’t do it just as well yourself. Even if you swear you can- you simply can’t.
What is at the top of your cheap and chic list? (must be under $50)
I am in love with the new Haviaianas flip flops in the Slim Peacock pattern. The design has a bohemian vibe- and while I wish it was a look I could pull off from head to toe, I am way too type A. So at least I can infuse a little of that hippie-chic spirit under the soles of my feet.
Number 1 Lust list item?
This Vanessa Bruno jacket. I know I would live in it- over a burnout tee with worn in boyfriend jeans, or a basic little black dress- it is one of those splurges that I know would pay off big time. If only I could pull the trigger!
What is your obsession of the moment?
Undone beachy waves. I am trying desperately to master the style- it looks effortless but of course, never is! My latest curl cocktail is Tigi Catwalk Curlesque shampoo and conditioner and Blow Styling Salon Wave Maker twisting lotion. It is all about trial and error- but I am determined!
And whats in your closet this month that you’re loving?
J Crew Lieutenant Jacket in Khaki– I put some Lia Sophia broches on it to glam it up a bit- but since I think a denim jacket with jeans is and should always be unacceptable, this is the most perfect Spring solution. I always push up the sleeves and pop the collar.
Dannijo Paradis necklace– This necklace makes the outfit. Every time.
Jimmy Choo Nude Cuff Sandals– I wear them pretty much every single day right now. I sought them out and thanks to my size 6 feet, got the one pair that wasn’t already spoken for in the latest shipment to the Houston Galleria boutique.
Haute Hippie Tie Waist Top– You can wear it backwards too- so versatile and the easiest thing ever to throw on over a tank top when I am having one of those- “I don’t have anything to wear” moments.
