Cheap & ChicCheap & Chic: July 2010

ONE. Cleanwell All-Natural Antibacterial Foaming Hand Soap — My favorite new drugstore discovery is this foaming handsoap. Claiming to kill 99.99% of bacteria, this soap is also environmentally-friendly and uses all natural ingredients, such as essential oils, to create the scents. It also doesn’t strip moisture from your skin, so it doesn’t feel super dry after washing your hands. I’ve been keeping the Spearmint Lime, which is minty fresh without being overpowering, by my kitchen sink and adore it. And for about $5 each, I think I’m going to pick up a few other scents like Orange Vanilla and Lavender. – Connie

TWO. Flight 001 F1 Spacepak Clothes — Is there anything more chic than traveling gracefully?  When I’m struggling with carry ons and checking luggage at the airport, it really is hard to look good- especially when things are flopping all over the place. So it’s no surprise that when jet setting in style, my favorite new accessory to make the entire travel experience more chic is the Spakepak by Flight 001.  The clothes bag is small enough to fit in any carry on but can pack up to 2 weeks worth of clothes!  For my upcoming trip to the West Coast, I fit in 3 pairs of pants, 6 dresses, 5 tops, 3 pairs of shorts, 4 skirts and there’s more room to keep going! The Spacepak works by compressing out all the excess air so you utilize the full volume of the bag and comes in a great turquoise color. At $46, it’s one of the cheapest accessories I can get to help me keep calm, cool and chic when on the go!   – Carolyn

THREE. Crate & Barrel Travel Plates – The older I get, the more I like having friends over for wine and cheese/appetizers instead of going out to some loud, overpriced club where you can’t even have a conversation. This set of six square plates is perfect for entertaining and the adorable designs make me smile every time I look at them. (As someone who would pick up and move to London in a heartbeat, that plate is obviously my favorite, but the other ones are equally as cute). Even better, the set of six is only $24.95, so you can entertain in style and still have enough money left over to pick up a few bottles of your favorite Pinot Noir for the party. Definitely a cheap and chic bargain! – Stacey

FOUR. Know That Rose Dress — At $47.99, this little floral number (sold on comes in just under the mark as the cutest, sexiest little summer dress I’ve seen yet. Tailored for a petite, hourglass figure, it’s also highly versatile! I could totally see it with sandals for a beach picnic, ballet flats for a trip to the market, platform heels for date night, or even a cozy cardigan and leather boots for fall. – Charli

FIVE. Aqua Lucite Chain and Faux Pearl Necklace — I love this necklace from Aqua, especially at the sale price of $27.50! The messy layers of faux pearls, lucite and glass beads, and gold and silver chains make for an edgy classic. The metals have an antiqued tone, the pearls are classic, yet the lucite and glass add a modern touch. Combined, I’d say they make for quite a statement piece. – Nina

Totally bummed Nina! The necklace is sold out!

Hey Carolyn, do the clothes come out really wrinkled? I need this so my hubby can stop griping that all my clothes take up too much space when we go on vacation!

Hey Carolyn, does the Spacepak fit into anything smaller than a standard carry-on suitcase (something like a large tote), and can it be carried on its own?

  3. Carolyn  |  3 August 2010 at 1:52 AM

It can be carried on its own and it can fit into a large LLBean size tote. I just put mine in my carry on though and it takes up about half the space. Hope that helps!

    Hi Kristina,

The clothes do not come out wrinkled if you fold it to the size of the Spacepak. It’s designed so the clothes do not move and therefore don’t wrinkle 🙂
