Or..the curious case of the $30 glasses.
I’ll be honest… the first few times I logged onto Zenni Optical’s website, I was both overwhelmed and skeptical. The site is filled with pages and pages of frames of all different styles, sizes and colors. I didn’t even know where to start! Not to mention, after having spent years forking over the big bucks for designer frames, I wasn’t sure what to expect from designs that came with the price tag of $8.
I knew what kind of look I wanted- the Paul Smith-esque geeky (but not over the top) spectacle look but i wasn’t sure exactly how to find it. The website could be organized a little better, but instinctively I clicked on “Leading Edge Designs,” scrolled, scrolled, scrolled…and voila found my ideal pair staring right back at me. Finding the pair of frames was a mixture of luck and being able to recognize what I was looking for. Once I found the frame, the rest was a breeze. I simply had my eye doctor fax over my prescription and filled it in using drop down menus on the site. The process is incredibly easy- even with my astigmatism- and I was on my way to checking out within minutes. Grand total in cart? Something like $30 including shipping and handling.
And when I got the glasses- instant love! They were exactly what I’d been hoping for and even though they were cheap to buy, they didn’t look cheap at all! I have to say, it was one of those rare experiences where I was really impressed with something that was not “designer” or “expensive.” So if you’re in the market for a new pair of glasses (or even just want to try out a new style) give Zenni Optical a shot. After all, for $30, it’s practically risk free!
