Consider Having a Private Affair

LORAC’s palettes and sets are always my favorite purchases because they’re just such a good deal.  You know how sometimes you buy a set of products and then you realize after you got it home that you only saved like, five dollars or so over buying them separately?  LORAC is the exact opposite.  Every time I buy one of their sets, I’m always amazed at just how much is included for the price and it makes me love the brand even more.  Two of their new fall products perfectly illustrate why you can’t go wrong with LORAC.

The Private Affair Palette ($38) is perfect for creating a funky smoky eye as we head into the cooler weather.  It’s a wine colored croc palette case with six shadows inside, ranging from neutrals to dark purples.  (The actual list of shade descriptions is: creamy beige with pearl, champagne rose with shimmer, soft taupe with pearl, deep wine with shimmer, and black with sparkle)  The two darkest shades are my favorite – I’m totally in love with the black with sparkle, which actually looks like it has some deep purple in it as well to me, and the deep wine with shimmer is gorgeous.  You can create a wide variety of looks with the shades too – from daytime neutral to nighttime sparkly, which is always my test of a palette I know I’ll get a lot of use from.  The palette also includes a mini Behind the Scenes Eye Primer, which works great to keep the shadows in place all day, and a double-ended brush.  (I definitely had better luck using my own brushes though – we all know that most of the time, the brushes that come in palettes aren’t the easiest to work with, so just keep that in mind).

I also tried out their Close Up: Real Life to Red Carpet Eye Tutorial, which is another great value.  For $36, you get a Behind the Scenes Eye Primer, a Front of the Line PRO Eyeliner in Black, the Starry-Eyed Baked Eye Shadow Trio in Movie Star, and a Special Effects Mascara in Black.  (There’s also a Double-Ended Blending/Smudging Brush, but again, I kinda prefer my own brushes to work with).  It’s a ton of products for that amount of money (the mascara alone would be $22!) and I love the colors in the eye shadow trio.  (The gray is super pretty).  The really cool thing about this kit though is the instruction booklet that comes with it that tells you how to easily create a natural eye look, a sultry cat eye, and LORAC’s signature smoky eye.  I’m such a fan of booklets like this.  After so many years of playing around with makeup, you’d think I’d be really good at it by now, but I have to admit, when I followed the instructions in this kit, my eye makeup just looked better.  The steps are really easy to follow too – eye makeup beginners won’t be stressed at all trying to recreate the looks, which makes it a perfect gift for anyone you know.  (I say this all the time when really, I’m just buying it for myself, but it’s amazing how much less guilty it makes me feel!  I can pretty much justify any purchase…)
