ONE. Desert Essence Organic Tea Tree Oil – Despite its powerful scent (which happens to repel all the men I know), this natural, inexpensive antiseptic is my cure-all for honking zits, cuts and anything that needs disinfecting. If I feel a blemish coming on, I just dab a cotton swab in the bottle, dip it in water to dilute, then rub it right onto the zit. If it’s not gone the next day, it certainly will be soon.
TWO. MLA Skincare Power Cream – While I’ve recently been extremely flirtatious with a packet of Sisley Hydra-Global samples, this rich cream has been my go-to nighttime moisturizer for the past few months. It works well for dry skin; and for once, my husband likes the scent (I think it smells like men’s cologne; he thinks it smells like soap).
THREE. Kiehl’s Super Fluid UV Defense SPF 50+ – I was seeking more protection than oldie-but-goodie Olay Complete offered but was hesitant to drop serious dough on the surprisingly tiny Chanel UV Essential when, thankfully, I stumbled upon this mid-tier offering with all the things I wanted from a facial sunscreen. It’s light, not too greasy and layers well with my makeup. And (knock on wood), I have yet to be burned out here in the hot desert sun!
FOUR. Kahina Eye Cream – My obsession with using argan oil as a moisturizer just went a step further with this awesome, silky eye cream by Kahina Giving Beauty. A quarter of sale profits go toward Berber women in Morocco who harvest and produce the organic oil.
FIVE. Etat Libre d’Orange Jasmin et Cigarettes – A former devout Coco Mademoiselle fan, I converted to this cologne a few years ago upon first sniffing it at a Henri Bendel event. I loved its smart blend of smoky, masculine tobacco and sweet, feminine jasmine so much, I went all the way to Etat Libre d’Orange’s flagship store in Paris to buy more, only to discover that it was carried by an L.A. perfume boutique, Lucky Scent. (Silly me. Good thing this fragrance wasn’t the ONLY reason I was in Paris!)
