In New York City, time goes by too quickly. Whether it’s time before a deadline, the time you get to spend sleeping, or time for a work day lunch- the truth is, a New York minute really does go by in the blink of an eye. That’s why a few weekends ago, I decided to head to The Lodge at Woodloch, one of the Northeast’s premiere resorts where time is meant to be savored and enjoyed and cherished with a loved one- a best friend, a significant other, a parent.
The Lodge at Woodloch, located in Hawley Pennsylvania, is only a short bus ride but worlds away from the hustle and bustle of Manhattan. It’s the distinctively “grown up” arm of the Woodloch family– an adults only resort which focuses on food, spa, health and wellness. The focal point of the resort is a 27 room indoor spa and salon which offers an extensive range of hair, body and facial treatments. The spa is open from 7am to 10pm on weekends, ensuring that all guests have ample time to experience the treatment they want. My personal recommendation? Book a massage the night you arrive. It’s a wonderful way to wind down after a long day and will immediately put you in the right mindset for the rest of your stay.
At Woodloch, you don’t have to worry about anything from the moment you check in. All three meals and all activities are included in your room rate and any spa treatments you book outside of any packages are automatically charged to your room without you having to lift a finger. In fact, the only thing you have to keep track of at Woodloch is when to eat your meals. For me, that is the ultimate way to relax- when one hour just melts into the next.
But for those who prefer to spend their free time trying something new or staying active, Woodloch offers a daily schedule of activities and classes ranging from sunrise yoga to afternoon cooking classes. People of all fitness levels will feel comfortable as there is truly something for everyone- whether you choose to participate in a 3 hour biking excursion or kayak in their private lake at your own leisure. One of my favorite ways to pass the time, when not lounging around in my robe, is to soak in the multiple pools at the spa. My favorite is the “massage pool” where you can sit under a waterfalls that pound out the knots in your shoulders and back (see above). After a few minutes of that, I head out to the heated, jet infinity pool outdoors. Divine!
As a wellness destination, The Lodge at Woodloch also offers three healthy meals per day at their restaurant, Tree. Dinner is included on the day you check in and lunch is included before check out. The healthy fare features naturally raised meats and fish and local, organic vegetables. Breakfast and lunch are served buffet style, but I prefer to order additional items off the menu. My personal favorites were ham and veggie omelette for breakfast and bison burger for lunch. And be sure to try their fresh watermelon cucumber juice (I’m still craving it) and iced SPORTea, a sugar free but delicious tea, at dinner.
As with any luxury resort, The Lodge at Woodloch offers spacious, clean rooms and large bathrooms stocked with nice amenities. Though I had planned a full schedule, I ended up canceling most of my classes and spending a lot of time in my room- time to catch up on movies, time to cuddle up in bed with warm chai tea, and a lot of time breathing in the fresh air and listening to the birds chirp from my private balcony. And I think, at the end of the day, the greatest luxury was a weekend filled with a sense of peace and total relaxation, where the days are long and all the time in the world was yours. And for this time starved New Yorker, there could not have been anything better.
