Blown Away @ Argyle Salon & Spa’s New Blowout Bar
Say bye-bye to inconvenient hair appointments! Last night, I got a taste of the new Blowout Bar at the Argyle Salon & Spa (located inside L.A.’s landmark Sunset Tower Hotel), where hours are being extended to accommodate clients in the morning and evening.
I stopped by the salon after work to check out their blowout menu, which features four types of blowouts: the Argyle Signature ($40), the Hollywood Blowout (glam volume!, $40), the Beachwaves Babe (finished with a curling iron, $50), and the Polished (finished with a flatiron, $50).
Having an overgrown pixie cut, I was wondering how they would transform my hair with a mere blow-dryer, but thanks to stylist Nelly Mollison, I got the chance to try a professionally crafted faux-hawk/pompadour — which I’ve never been able to do. A half a can of hairspray later, I was getting compliments from strangers on my resemblance to Gwen Stefani (I’ll take it!) Thanks, Nelly!
Mini-massages were also being offered by the Arglye Spa’s staff (ask for Andrew!). And if those were just a sampling of what a full-body massage was like at the spa, consider my deep-tissue-craving self sold! I plan to go back soon for a relaxing hour-long massage and Turkish Bath — just two of the spa’s many offerings — then stop by the Tower Bar for a bite and do some potential celebrity sightseeing.
The full-service salon, which embodies the hotel’s old Hollywood art deco glamour, is generously equipped with high-end products like Oribe, Davines (my new obsession) and Rene Furterer, including scalp/hair loss treatments. The salon also offers expert Brazilian Blowouts (90 mins/$350 and up) and Shellac and Gelish nail treatments ($45/mani, $60/pedi). At night, the lights are dimmed for a “moodlit” vibe, which adds a little more relaxation to the bustling floor.
The Blowout Bar is now open every Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. (for pre-work styling) and every Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. (for weekend prep). So in theory, you could get a lasting blowout every 3–4 days!
