Dining & Nightlife, Fashion, Fitness & Health, Hotels, New York, Spas & Salons — City Files: New York: November 2010
ONE. The Lamb’s Club — Welcome to the city’s new fine dining establishment – home of the power breakfast, business lunch and luxe, leisurely dinner. The Lamb’s Club, named after the historic building in which it resides, is the restaurant of the recently opened Chatwal Hotel, one of the most unique luxury properties I’ve had the pleasure of touring. With renowned chef Geoffrey Zakarian at the helm, The Lamb’s Club serves fine contemporary American cuisine with dishes such as Foie Gras Terrine and Chatham Cod on the menu. The ambiance channels the glamour of the New York of the Gilded Age with rich maroon decor and a large crackling fireplace. Come to The Lamb’s Club this winter in your finest fur for a night out worthy of an Edith Wharton novel.
TWO. Norma Kamali Wellness Cafe— Just having to navigate midtown Manhattan is, in itself, already stressful enough. Luckily, hidden in the back room of Norma Kamali’s 56th St flagship is her newest project- The Wellness Cafe where busy professionals can stop in to pick up a finely curated selection of the designer’s favorite healthy items. Stepping into the airy space immediately helps you destress and viewing Norma’s selection of olive oils, health food, fitness gear and her favorite Organic Avenue juices is bound to inspire you to start your day with your best foot forward. Stopping by also has other perks- Norma regularly sends out invites to free events and goodies around the city- like complimentary classes at her favorite studio Physique 57!
THREE. Angelo David Salon— I go to Angelo David Salon primarily for one person- Redken’s color expert David Stanko– who, while not a stylist, has been known to give me some of the best blowouts I’ve ever gotten. Stanko who divides his time between the salon and traveling for Redken events is a favorite among the blogeratti and editors alike. In addition to being incredibly knowledgeable about color and knowing the Redken system inside and out (Angelo David Salon carries the entire line of Redken and Pureology products), Stanko is also just friendly and fun. My last visit entailed a color gloss, dishing about hair industry gossip, advice on what to gift the men in my life for the holidays, and a fabulous va-va-voom blowout that Stanko fondly calls “Pussycat Dolls hair.” Angelo David also uses the in-salon Redken “Art of Consultation” system which includes cool tricks to help you determine your best color. Stanko is only in the salon a few days a month, so make sure to get on his appointment book early!
FOUR. The Spa at the Chatwal— You’ll be hard pressed to find a spa in New York that has it’s own pool- and encourages their clients to lounge around and use it after their treatment. The new Spa at the Chatwal by Kashwere, however, does exactly that. After a body treatment or facial, guests have the option of utilizing an Infinity Saltwater lounge with a hot spa, a cold plunge pool and a lap pool designed to simulate natural water currents. If you’re super ambitious, you can even use the hotel’s private fitness center! The spa has a full menu of treatments and although small, offers an incredibly intimate and bespoke experience. Plus all guests are treated to Kashwere robes, which to date, are the softest and plushiest I’ve ever felt!
FIVE. Ralph Lauren New York Flagship Mansions— The very recently opened Ralph Lauren New York flagships, located at 867 (men’s) and 888 Madison Avenue (women’s), are destinations worth visiting even if you’re not in the market for a new Purple Label suit or Collection alligator Legend bag. The new his and her sprawling mansions are so incredibly opulent and stepping inside is like walking into the finest historic Beaux Arts home- but filled with gorgeous timeless fashions, accessories and home decor that you can walk out with. Head over to RalphLauren.com to get the virtual tour of the new stores- and I guarantee you’ll be making it one of your must visit destinations this fall.
