Make It Your Target
I have a total love/hate relationship with Target. I love it because, well, you can get pretty much everything you need there and they always have fun new stuff and really, who doesn’t love Target? But I hate it too because every single time I go, no matter how much I promise myself that I’ll just run in, grab the few things I need and leave, I always end up spending at least $100. At least. For a while I thought that I was going to have to ban myself from the store, but that just seemed too cruel, so now I just try and limit my visits to every other time I feel like going and that seems to have worked out okay.
One of the best things about Target in recent years has been their makeup lines, like NP Set and Pixi and Jemma Kidd. They’re all reasonably priced and I find the quality to be very good – I think of it kind of like a mini Sephora and the beauty section is always the first place I head when I walk in (surprise, surprise!) All of their holiday palettes are currently in stores (or making their way to stores) but since I haven’t seen them yet, here are a few of my other favorites that I’ve tried recently.
Pixi’s Nude Shade Wardrobe in Cafe Au Lait is a wonder – it’s a whopping 18 shades packed into a compact little box (the shades slide out, so it’s easy to use). If you missed out on Urban Decay’s Naked Palette or you’re just someone who uses a lot of nude colors, you won’t want to pass this one up. The shades range from golds to pinks to browns and include a few darker contour shades, like a deep brown and a black that runs toward the sheerer side. It’s a total nude shade wardrobe for only $26, which is practically unheard of. Pixi’s Lumi Lux Eye Palette is another great deal. If you’re looking to add to your eyeshadow wardrobe at a low price, you should definitely start here. For $30 you get 20 shades (and they’re not small amount either). The colors range from light to dark and are very varied – you’ll find everything from ivory shades to highlight with to dark greys, blues and greens for a smoky eye. If you’re on a budget, you’d be crazy to pass it up.
The Catwalk I-Kit from JK Jemma Kidd is a great find too. You get five really pretty shadows (four of which are shimmery), a black shadow/liner, an eye primer, and two other light shadow shades to be used as a highlighter. The shadows are a great quality and I really like the shades (Aubergine Shimmer is my favorite) and the kit itself is a great value at only $26. Plus, it’s super slim and portable, so it’s totally easy to pack in your luggage or even your bag if you want to touch up your makeup during the day.
Jemma’s Backstage Makeup Kit is a bigger palette – it has 12 different eyeshadows, but it also has several different concealers, a bronzer, blushes, and a few lip shades. It’s more of a full face palette as opposed to the Catwalk I-Kit, which is (obviously) just for eyes, but like all the others, it’s a bargain at $35 for the amount of product you get.
NP Set is one of my favorite Target beauty brands (partly because of the quality, but also because I heard Napoleon speak earlier this year and he’s so fun). I still have a few different products from that line to test, but right now I’m obsessed with the Shimmer Highlight Duos.
They come in two shades – Bronze/Gold and Pink/Peach – and both are perfect for the holiday season (and beyond!) They’re these creamy shades that you can use on your lips, cheeks or eyes in pretty much any way you’d like. They all have this subtle glimmer to them and they look great on cheekbones or under your brows as a highlighter.
See, now even just writing about all of these great products is making me crave a Target run! Someone stop me!
