If you’re already racking your brain about what to do for Valentine’s Day and all you’ve come up with is “Dinner out or dinner in?,” consider taking pause from all the hustle and bustle at a quiet oasis such as Spa Luce. A seasonal offering on the spa menu, the delightful aromatherapeutic Spa Luce Valentine’s Day Couples Massage, $370, gets my vote for best investment in relaxation. It features massages performed side by side in the couples room, a mineral-salt soak in a hydrotherapy tub built for two, and a complimentary bottle of champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries.
If $370 is too steep, I just checked out the standard Custom Couples Massage with my spa-loving husband, and we both gave it a thumbs up. (I got a rather intense deep-tissue massage and felt amazing the next day!) Services range from $15 (lip, cheek or chin wax) to $1,295 (package of 10 Ultimate Anti-Gravity Facelifts), but I think the best deal is probably an Express Facial, which is $70 and comes with a neck and shoulder massage.
Located in the heart of Hollywood, the 6,400-square-foot spa is an environment you could get lost in for hours. Designed by the brilliant, Emmy-Award winning Kerry Joyce and featuring Los Angeles-based artist Kim Gordon’s mosaic work, it evokes purity and calm with beautiful mother-of-pearl-tiled surfaces, an impressively domed reception area and a mostly white interior carved from Jerusalem stone. Cavernous hallways, flickering candles, makeshift ponds and flotaki rugs may have visions of SoHo, the mediterranean, Thailand or Morocco dancing through your head as you make your way toward the quiet lounge. The locker rooms feature electronic combination locks, an aqua blue-tiled hammam (steam bath) and a signature line of products by celebrity health and well-being expert Dr. Sharon, as well as delightful lotions and other offerings from June Jacobs, Sonya Dakar, Red Flower and Somme Institute. (I tried an amazing, fragranced hand lotion that would be perfect for kai lovers. I will have to investigate what brand it was and get back to you on that.) Overall, you must make this spa a destination on your list should you be in the area — at a bare minimum, it’s worth it just to book any treatment for access to the Eucalyptus-infused steam rooms and rooftop pool!
