New Year, New Hair?
“New Year, New You,” is a common theme. But aside from new eating habits, a new workout plan and a list of things to organize in 2011, the new you can often include a new look. And for me, that usually means a new hair color.
I look at hair color as a fun way to change things up — and it’s way less of a commitment than a haircut. If you don’t like the results, there’s no need to spend a year or two growing it back out — you can usually just color it back to its prior state!
That said, I’ve met a lot of people who want to take the plunge but are afraid they won’t be able to pull off their dream hair color. Those people have said to me, “You’re so lucky; you are one of those people who can pull off any hair color. I’m sooo not.” Well, I’m not either — and I have the bad-hair-color photos to prove it. My secret weapon? A good colorist, specifically, celebrity hair stylist Marco Pelusi of Marco Pelusi Hair Studio in West Hollywood.
A longtime hair expert and the new pro face for Aloxxi hair color, Marco is passionate and super knowledgeable about hair color. His celebrity clients have included Stacy Keibler and Carol Alt, among others. Watching him work is like watching a chemist or chef whipping up a batch of some magical formula (in designer jeans, no less). He’s transformed me from a brassy, highlighted mess to sophisticated, sleek chocolate layers; from a one-note platinum blonde to a multi-dimensional Carey Mulligan lookalike; and from that to a fiery redhead. See?
His stylish salon is such a comfortable, relaxing and low-key environment. I often spend close to two hours there catching up on my emails, chatting with his staff and stocking up on his line of hair products, although I’ve seen clients rush in and out in less than 45 minutes. Prices can be steep, but it really is worth it, especially if you are a regular. And it’s right by a whole street full of popular restaurant, cafes and shops like Hedley’s, The Abbey and Bossa Nova.
But enough talking. Unless you’re really good at picking out the perfect box color at the drugstore, see this man. He knows what he’s doing. And if you’re not in the area, call your local salon(s) to find a good colorist with a background in and passion for mixing custom colors. Having an expert available to mix a color that’s perfect for you practically ensures you will get a color that looks good … and will fool people into thinking you look good with every hair color (wink).
Marco Pelusi Hair Studio is located at 636 North Robertson Blvd., West Hollywood, Calif. To make an appointment, call (310) 967-0999.
