Sparkle in 2011

My nail polish phase just doesn’t seem to show any signs of slowing down lately. There have been so many fun, new collections released that I just can’t stop myself from acquiring new ones. (I am rapidly running out of room where I store them – clearly the solution is not to stop buying nail polishes, but to move to a bigger place).
Nicole by OPI has just launched a selection of Walmart exclusive shades, which is timed perfectly to my discovery that there is a Walmart less than a half hour drive from me (I can finally buy Hard Candy!) Here are the four shades you’ll find:
- Count On Me – a glimmering lavender
- Got Style? – a shimmery mauve
- He’s A Keeper – a classic red
- Never Give Up – a sparkly plum
They’re all really pretty, but I’m partial to He’s A Keeper (because I’m a sucker for a classic red nail) and Never Give Up (it’s a gorgeous shade that doesn’t dupe anything already in my stash). The polish formula on these is great – it lasts a good amount of time without chipping and the color coverage is solid. Definitely a collection that’ll make your next trip to Walmart even more fun.
OPI has also launched two new glitter-filled collections recently, which has made me very happy. (I don’t usually wear glitter on my fingers because it just doesn’t suit me, but I am ALL about fun glitter shades on my toes). The Burlesque collection was timed to release with the film of the same name and it’s full of shades that’ll definitely be in my pedicure rotation for awhile. (Besides the six glitters, there are also six other shades in the collection too that are worth checking out). Show It And Glow It! is a purple base with red, gold and green glitter mixed in – it really is a party in a bottle! Extra-Va-Vaganza! is an orange base with green, gold and purple glitter mixed it – very party worthy. Those are my two favorites, but if you love glittery polishes, the entire collection is worth checking out because you’re sure to find a few favorites of your own.
The other new OPI collection that I tried out is the Katy Perry Collection. (I know, I know, some people find her very annoying, but there’s no denying that she’s been on the forefront of nail trends recently. Katy’s collection consists of four different shades – Teenage Dream (a pink glitter), Not Like the Movies (a silvery green), Last Friday Night (a blue glitter) and The One That Got Away (a deep berry). They can all be worn on their own (I’m partial to The One That Got Away for my hands – it’s gorgeous!) but the interesting twist to this collection is that it also includes a Black Shatter shade, which you apply to any color in the collection (or that you already own) when it’s completely dry, to create a cool “shatter” effect on your nails. Again, probably not something I could pull off on my fingers, but definitely a look I’d try out on my toes at my next pedicure. (Especially over The One That Got Away). Now I just have to book my next salon appointment and figure out which colors I’m going to try…
