Cheap & ChicCheap & Chic: March 2011

ONE. Kerry Brooks Celestial Coasters — I’m moving into a new place soon, so I’m already picking up some little decorative things whenever I come across something I love. While browsing on the Anthropologie web site, I came across these gorgeous Celestial Coasters. I absolutely love the design of them and the fact that you can get them in a variety of colors (I covet the Moody Blue, Green, and Lime shades the most). Best of all, they’re made by hand so each one is unique, and they’re a bargain at only $32 for a set of four, considering they’ll look like little mini works of art on your table. They’ll be mine as soon as I can run over to the nearest Anthropologie store! - Stacey

TWO. Michael Kors Roller Ball Trio – Not in the mood to choose?  Michael Kors Roller Bar Trio is a compact set complete with three dual-ended fragrance/gloss rollerballs for a mere $50. This makes it easy to freshen and touch up during your busy day, without the hassle of carrying around your entire make up kit. Start your day with a soft pink gloss, smelling of Michael Kors’ Signature Scent, and then finish it off with fuchsia gloss and the Very Pretty fragrance! - Liz

THREE. The affordable Chambray shirt — OK, despite my initial aversion to the return of ’80s–’90s style, I’m officially into these. But I am NOT into paying up to $198 for one (What are Marc Jacobs and J.Crew thinking!??). I’ve been borrowing a light, slightly worn version from my husband and tucking it into a black pencil skirt instead, which works splendidly. My advice: Raid the men’s section instead! Old Navy makes a decent under-$20 men’s chambray shirt, if you can get your hands on a small before they sell out. If you’d rather stick to the women’s section, the Lauren Jeans Co. Chambray Shirt is probably the cheapest (good) classic style I’ve seen outside of a thrift store — however, it’s exactly $50.) But for a little edge, Forever 21 makes a great, tunic-like Chambray Woven Shirt, which has a removable belt that allows you to tuck it in for more versatility. - Charli

FOUR. Olay Professional Pro-X Advanced Cleaning System —  Priced at under $30, Olay’s Professional brush is perfect for anyone who wants a deep cleaning system but doesn’t want to shell out the exorbitant prices for some others on the market.  Olay’s version is a bit more on the basic side, but does what it’s supposed to and well.  It comes with 2 different rotation speeds and is proven to clean skin 6x better than manual washing in order to maximize the effectiveness of your moisturizer.  I love that you can use it in the shower and the replaceable bristle heads are just soft enough. Apparently we’re not the only people that think this system is cheap and chic, as it’s flying off the shelves everywhere! - Carolyn

FIVE. Gap Floral Umbrella — It feels like it’s been constantly rain where I live, and though I adore my fun polka dot umbrella, it is getting a good workout. I definitely need an alternative to use…and maybe one that will make me look forward to (hopefully) sunny days just around the corner. This floral one by Gap is sweet, pretty and understated – but still seems durable as well. At $24.95… sold! - Connie

Urban Outfitters has/had a great chambray shirt! It was originally $58, but I snagged one for $15 on a sale rack. It’s marvelously soft and worn-in, and I love the pearl snap-on buttons.
