I’ve been in dire need of some down time and pampering lately, so I headed to the Nail Garden salon in Sherman Oaks for their Indulgent Bliss treatment. The Nail Garden is a chain of four salons in Los Angeles – branches can be found in Studio City, Sherman Oaks, Burbank, and their newest location, Brentwood. It was started by Reham Bastawros and her husband Fady because Reham, an admitted spa junkie, wanted to develop what she calls “an urban retreat,” where people could relax and indulge without paying a huge price tag. (Exactly what most of us are looking for, right?)
I decided to visit the Sherman Oaks location because not only is it convenient to where I live, but it’s located in the Fashion Square mall, which is great because you can pamper yourself and then shop without even leaving the building. Perfect! I decided to get the Indulgent Bliss Treatment, which is a manicure/pedicure combo complete with extra pampering. When I arrived, the place was packed (always a good sign!) but they took me right away. I could have picked out my shades from a huge variety of OPI and Zoya shades, among others, but I always bring my own polish so I can touch up as it starts to fade or chip, so I skipped that step.
Once I was in my chair, one of my technicians turned it on so I could enjoy a massage as they worked. I love when salons have massage chairs – it’s like an extra added bit of relaxation. (Although this time, it resulted in a big oops on my part because I had my polishes on the arm of the chair and the vibration pushed one of them off, shattering it all over the tile floor. I was totally embarrassed, but they couldn’t have been nicer about it). And then the treatment began and I forgot all about my embarrassment… It started with a polish removal and nail shaping. I was a little worried about the shaping because a few of the salons I’ve gone to recently have really not done this part how I wanted it – I freely admit that my preferred shape is a little difficult since I like a combo of square and round, but my technician at the Nail Garden captured what I described to her perfectly. After that, it was on to a cuticle grooming, followed by the most relaxing exfoliating pineapple sea scrub. Post scrub came probably my favorite part of the whole treatment – a rejuvenating mint cooling masque was applied to feet and legs, then they were wrapped with warm towels to hydrate my skin. It was energizing and relaxing all at the same time. After that came the callus removal (a necessary evil) which was followed up by a soothing hot lotion massage (sooo nice) and then a hot paraffin wax treatment on both my hands and feet. If you’ve never had a paraffin wax treatment before, it’s delightful. My hands and feet were visibly softer once it was removed. After all those fun steps, it was finally time for the polish – a deep red on my fingers and a brighter, bolder red on my toes.
Overall, my experience at the Nail Garden was great. I really liked that both my hands and feet were worked on at the same time. That way, I was able to completely give myself over to the treatment and not find myself reaching for my phone to return a text or surf the internet. The manicure and pedicure had great staying power too – It’s been about 10 days since I had it done and my toes still look almost perfect. (My fingers have some chipping on them, but I blame that on all the typing I do and the fact that I keep using them to open things. I’m terrible with that).
