In the interest of full disclosure, I haven’t seen any of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies, which I know sounds crazy since they’ve all been huge hits, but in my defense, I have gone on the ride at DisneyWorld a bunch of times. I am, however, totally into OPI’s new Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides collection. The collection consists of six new shades, plus a Silver Shatter top coat to go over them (or any other shade already in your collection). Here’s what you’ll find in the set:
- Skull & Glossbones – a light gray
- Mermaid’s Tears – a minty green
- Steady as she Rose – a sheer pink
- Planks a Lot – a lavender sorbet
- Sparrow Me the Drama – a feminine pink
- Stranger Tides – a cool sage
First of all, how great are those names? I totally want to be the person whose job it is to hang out all day and name the new polishes. How fun would that be? All six of the new shades are gorgeous on their own, but they look totally cool and funky when paired with the Silver Shatter top coat. I’m especially partial to it over Planks a Lot and Mermaid’s Tears – those shades just look the best paired with the silver on me, but the other ones are definitely nice too. I’m really into the sudden popularity of the shatter top coats. It’s definitely more work and an extra step (if you’re new to using shatters, make sure that the polish you’re layering underneath is completely dry before you apply them) but it’s such a cool effect that all the extra effort is worth it.
In addition to the Pirates shades, OPI is also releasing four more colors in the Serena Williams Glam Slam! collection. Glam Slam! France is made up of two duo packs – the first one pairs Spark de Triomphe (a silver glitter) with a White Shatter, the second one puts Rally Pretty Pink (a shimmering pink) with a Red Shatter. I like the second pairing the best, mainly because Rally Pretty Pink is a gorgeous, gorgeous shade that I know I’ll get a lot of use out of, both with and without the Red Shatter on top. Definitely a summer treasure!
Both of these collections are available now at stores and on www.opi.com.
