Great Summer Glosses
With the weather heating up, I definitely lean more towards gloss instead of lipstick. It just seems like a better idea when the temps hit the nineties and my hair is sticking to my neck. Every year I luck into finding great new glosses to rave about, and here are my picks for the summer of 2011:
Fusion Beauty’s LipFusion Infatuation is technically not a gloss – it’s a liquid lip color – but since it’s closer to a gloss than a lipstick, I’m making the executive decision to include it anyway. My favorite thing about it is that it has great coverage. The colors are all so vibrant and totally opaque – definitely a full coverage product. It has a lip plumper in it, but it’s not a painful one – it just sort of tingles for awhile after you put it on, which I actually like. It also has a zingy, fruity sort of scent – I can’t decide exactly how to describe it, but it’s definitely pleasant. My favorite shade is Screen Siren. It’s a bold cherry red that’s quickly become my go to red. I’m so happy I tried it!
MAKE UP FOR EVER introduced their Lab Shine Lip Glosses earlier this spring, but somehow I hadn’t gotten around to trying them until recently. There are a ton of colors to choose from – 35 different shades in 3 different finishes, Diamond, Star and Metal. (There’s even a black and a grey!) The coverage ranges from sheer (Diamond) to medium (Star) and to (Metal (full coverage with a chrome finish – my personal favorite). The glosses are apricot-scented, but for some reason, whenever I sniff them I think of iced tea. I love the sparkly finishes on the shimmery shades.
No one does fun shades better than MAKE UP FOR EVER and these are some of the best. Who doesn’t want their lips to sparkle? The Lab Shines are available exclusively at Sephora, so head to your nearest one to check them out.
Guerlain has three new Terracotta Glosses in their summer collection – Salsa, Mambo, and Tango. They’re the quintessential summer colors – neon fuchsia, sunny coral, and flamboyant red – and for those of you who like a sheerer gloss with a hint of color, these are for you. I love the formula on them – it’s light and moisturizing, but not sticky at all. They’re the perfect daytime shades because they’re not overpowering or too bold, but you do get a touch of color and you can layer them over other shades if you want to have bolder lips. They’re the first Guerlain glosses I’ve ever tried, but I’m really impressed. I’ll definitely be checking out future releases based on how much I like these.
Now that my lips are all glossed and ready to go, bring on the summer!
