Cheap & ChicCheap & Chic: August 2011

ONE. Pond’s Wet Cleansing Towelettes Evening Soothe with Chamomile & White Tea –  How many times have you come home after a long night out (or maybe just a long day at work) and just passed out sans washing your face?  Well this beauty editor isn’t admitting to committing this skincare faux pas regularly- but I will admit that now I never go to bed with makeup on thanks to the new Pond’s Evening cleansing towelettes- which I leave right on my nightstand.  The soft textured cloth removes everything including eye makeup and the light scent leaves me feeling fresh. A month supply costs under $5 at many retailers- definitely chic on the cheap!  – Carolyn

TWO. LaLucca Leather Luggage Tags – The latest east coast heat wave has sent everyone packing! What better way to accessorize your beat-up suitcase or weekender than with LaLucca’s leather luggage tags? Available in seven bold colors (with hot pink lining!), these little leather tags will help set your luggage apart while you travel in style. Available at www.lalucca.com for only $31 each. - Liz

THREE. Clinique Lid Smoothie Antioxidant 8-Hour Eye Colour — These creamy little eyeshadows are so fun. These are crease-resistant, and a little bit on your eyelids goes a long way.  So for $19.50, you can make an impact and still stay budget-friendly! - Connie

FOUR. Butter London Knees Up Nail Polish — I’m eternally on a quest to find the perfect red nail polish and Knees Up from Butter London’s Autumn/Winter 2011 Collection is one of my favorites in recent memory. It’s just a gorgeous, gorgeous red with a really pretty metallic finish to it that gives the shade a little something extra. (But I love that it’s not super frosty or overly metallic – it’s just the perfect amount to make your nails stand out). I’m a big fan of Butter London’s formula as well – it applies easily and lasts a long time, so that makes spending $14 to grab one of their best shades an even easier decision. Definitely grab this one before they’re all gone! - Stacey

FIVE. The Case for Falling in Love by Mari Ruti – What’s more chic than being in love? Author Mari Ruti, Ph.D., has written a refreshing and honest antidote to the majority of successful dating books out there, i.e., “The Rules …,” “Men Are from Mars…,” “Why Men Love Bitches,” etc. What I like most (besides the pretty “Tiffany & Co. blue” cover) is that she reminds us of the danger of making assumptions based on gender differences and their associated societal roles, the latter of which are always evolving. Plus, it’s just fun to be in love — so why not embrace it regardless of how it works out? - Charli
