NARS Fall ’11

NARS is one of my more recent discoveries, which is kind of crazy because everything that I use from them, I love.  (Although it’s probably good for my wallet that I didn’t find them a lot sooner!)  I’m especially into their new Fall 2011 collection, which just recently made its way into my life.

The collection includes three new eye products, all of which are standouts, for different reasons.  If you’ve seen the Outremer shade, you know what I’m talking about.  It’s a bright blue that when you first look at, kind of makes you think, “Hhhm, where on earth would I wear that?”  Well don’t worry, the answer is a lot of places (just maybe not work!)  You can use it on its own for a bold look perfect for a night out with the girls, or you blend it with darker, more sedate shades that’ll bring down the brightness a little, but still let it shine.  I didn’t expect to love it nearly as much as I do, but it’s just so fun and different from what I usually wear that I can’t help but reach for it often.

The Delphes Trio, on the other hand, was made for daytime looks.  The three shades are a sparkling sheer peach, a matte dove grey, and a frosted sage.  All gorgeous, but soft and muted enough to wear to work.  I’m especially fond of the sage shade.  It’s a really pretty green with a lot of shimmer to it and it looks great by itself or paired with the other two shades in the palette.

Grand Palais Duo Eyeshadow is another color pairing that I wouldn’t have put together myself, but somehow it works.  It pairs a silver taupe with a dusty rose, which is a color I don’t think I’ve ever used on my eyes before, but blended together with the taupe, it’s a different and eye-catching combo.  (I’ve been using the dusty rose blended in the crease of my eyes with the silver taupe on the lids).  The colors do exactly what I’ve come to love about NARS shades – they bring me out of my comfort zone, but in a wearable way.

The fall collection also has five new lip shades in it.  My favorite is the Train Bleu Velvet Matte Lip Pencil.  It’s a deep aubergine color, perfect for the chilly days of fall.  It’s way too hot here in L.A. to pull it off at the moment, but I like it so much, I’ve been, uh, putting it on at home just to wear when I’m watching TV.  (I know it’s sad, but I can’t help myself!)  Pago Pago lipstick is a sheer shimmering pink that looks great with a smoky eye, now or in colder weather.  It pairs up fantastically with the Oasis Lip Gloss, a sparkling pink champagne that can be worn on its own or layered over lipstick.  There are also two new Pure Matte Lipsticks, Mascate, a bold red, and Montego Bay, a neutral rose pink shade.

Finally, the collection’s last piece is Galion Nail Polish.  It’s a dark, dark shiny grey (almost black in certain lights) that will look amazing on shorter nails.  (I personally don’t love shades this dark on longer nails because it kind of reminds me of something Cruella de Vil would wear, but that’s just my personal opinion).  It’s a color I think I’ll save for the colder weather (or a black tie event if I should happen to get invited to one in the next few months) but I seriously cannot wait to wear it.  If I wasn’t already excited for colder weather, this polish would get me there!
