Urban Decay never fails to wow me, especially around the holidays when their already impressive lineup always expands to include lots of fun sparkly makeup and tons of holiday gift sets. This year is no exception. There’s so many fun things to play around with, I almost didn’t know where to start when I picked them up.
There are two sets of Travel Size 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils – Electric and Naked. Each one of them comes with 5 different liners, but each set is aimed at creating very different looks. Naked is full of more neutral shades (black, dark brown, glimmering dark brown, metallic taupe and silvery taupe) while Electric is funkier colors more in tune with a night out (matte black, bright iridescent purple, bright fuchsia sparkle, vibrant blue shimmer and bright green sparkle). The formulas are every bit as amazing as the regular-sized pencils sold individually – they glide on, blend easily, and last forever. They’re pretty much my gold standard in eyeliners, so I love these sets because they let you add a bunch of different shades at a great price. Sure, the pencils are a tiny bit smaller, but when’s the last time you finished a liner anyway?
This year’s Nail Polish Set is another winner. It has six shades in small bottles (perfect for traveling during the holidays with) and there’s not a dud in the bunch. Urban Decay doesn’t do a lot of nail colors and I really wish they would because every year their sets make me want to see what they could come up with if they had an entire line of shades. I especially love Ziggy, a gold sparkly shade with other colors thrown into the glitter mix. Mars is a shimmery emerald green that’s a perfect pedicure shade, and Barlust is a deep shimmery brown that works great as a neutral manicure shade. Love this set!
The Midnight Emergency Kit (fun name!) comes in a zippered case that has four eyeshadows and a Midnight Cowboy Lip Junkie. It’s an interesting choice of shadows, with three light gold and brown shades and a purple accent color. It’s an easy color scheme to create a look with and the neutral gloss helps bring it all together. I’ll be packing this one for my trip back east over the holidays because I could use it both day and night.
Ah, the Book of Shadows… I have every one of these that Urban Decay has put out and love them all. We’re already up to the Book of Shadows IV and it’s a worthy addition to the lineup. This one has 16 shades of eyeshadow, 10 of which are brand new colors, and it also has a really cool feature that none of the others has included. It has QR (Quick Response) codes on it and all you have to do is scan them with your smartphone to download exclusive videos that’ll show you how to recreate the looks yourself at home. I haven’t gotten a chance to play around with them yet, but I’m looking forward to doing it when things slow down a little over the holidays. The book also has a few other goodies in it, including a 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Perversion, a dark black, and a mini SuperCurl Mascara and mini Eyeshadow Primer Potion. All of them are easily removed so you can take them with you, so they’re sort of like little bonus gifts. Love that!
The 24/7 Glide-On Shadow Pencil Stashmight be my favorite of the gift sets, just because I love the Shadow Pencils so much. I already had most of the shades in it, but I had to get the set anyway because the smaller size pencils are so portable and easy to take with you. There are 5 pencils in the set – a dark purple with bright purple sparkle, taupe, frosted taupe, champagne and bright turquoise with silver sparkle. I love the neutral shades, but the purple is my favorite just because it looks so good with my green eyes. If you haven’t tried the shadow pencils yet, you absolutely must because they’re so fabulous. You can use them as liners or as eyeshadow and either way they’re delightful – long-lasting, pigmented and vibrant. Everyone needs them!
These are all of the new Urban Decay holiday goodies I’ve tried so far, but there are a bunch of other new products that I haven’t gotten my hands on yet and can’t wait to try. Happy holidays, indeed!
