In the week leading up to the Golden Globes, all I can think about is Marilyn Monroe’s style. Actress Michelle Williams may face tough competition for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical (she’s nominated along with Jodie Foster, Charlize Theron, Kristen Wiig and Kate Winslet); but when it comes to who played the character with the highest chic factor, Michelle wins hands down.
Here, my favorite ways to channel Marilyn’s timeless look (clockwise):
Paul & Joe Dubali wrap-effect crepe dress — Able to easily be dressed up or down, this figure-flattering cream dress captures just the right balance of class and comfort Marilyn was often seen in.
Elsa Peretti Mesh Earrings — Marilyn didn’t wear that many accessories, but she appeared to have a thing for dangling earrings such as these from Tiffany & Co. — accented with round brilliant diamonds, of course.
Nars 413 Bleeker Lip Gloss — Marilyn reportedly spent an hour and a half on her makeup and used up to five lipstick shades, plus liner and gloss, to get her signature red lip. Bet you she wishes she had this gloss instead.
Chanel No.5 — The classic fragrance got Marilyn’s celebrity endorsement back in 1954, when she claimed she wore 5 drops of it to bed every night (and woke up every morning with a glass of Piper Heidsieck champagne).
Wella Brilliance Hair Care — No Marilyn-esque transformation would be complete without going blond, or at least getting blond highlights. When I went platinum, I relied on Wella’s diamond-dust-infused hair care line to control shine and keep damage at bay — and it’s only fitting, since ”diamonds are a girl’s best friend.”
Salvatore Ferragamo Metallic Leather Sandals — “Give a girl the right shoes, and she can conquer the world,” Marilyn said. With these babies, you’ll feel invincible.
