Accessories, Celebrities, Fashion, JewelryTDO INTERVIEW: WHITNEY & HAYLEY STEVENS

WHITLEY

WHITLEY Designs is a handcrafted jewelry line based in San Francisco that has been recently spotted on Vanessa Hudgens, Maria Menounos, Audrina Patridge and Bella Thorne, to name a few celebs. The collection includes bracelets, earrings, necklaces (shown: Carly), rings, bobby pins, and one-of-a-kind reclaimed vintage pieces. It also offers pieces that are customizable via colorful charms, modern initials, and initial/zodiac discs.

Conceptualized by California-born sisters Whitney and Hayley Stevens (hence the name “Whitley”), the line balances Whitney’s classic style (she is a practicing attorney) with Hayley’s innovative perspective (she is an artist). Each piece is extremely versatile, layers well and goes with almost anything. We caught up with Whitley and Hayley recently to chat about their inspiration behind the line, as well as how they got it off the ground: READ MORE

With any skin care regimen, continual use is the key to seeing results. The greatest thing about Cindy Crawford’s Meaningful Beauty Regime is that you will see results. The second greatest thing is that the products are so easy to use that you’ll actually apply them for long enough to get there.

The System contains 5 main products—a cleanser, moisturizer, serum, neck treatment, and advanced super- antioxidant capsules. All the products are designed to work together to protect your skin from environmental factors and restore it to health. Now kits can be a bit intimidating when you feel like you have a ten-step regimen to remember. But, as it turns out, it takes about four minutes in the morning and three at night. I’ll break it down:

MORNING

The Cleanser is extremely mild with a creamy texture that leaves my skin feel very soothed and comfortable first thing in the morning. Like a good beauty blogger, I use it with my Clarisonic, which is designed to work for 2 minutes. Total time = 2 minutes. READ MORE

ONE:  Reiko Kaneko Lip Tease Cup and Saucer –  Lauren Santo Domingo, once told Into the Gloss, that she finds early morning lipstick on coffee cups “vulgar.” Even though I’m inclined to agree, I have other words to describe this lipstick-stained teacup and saucer. Words like cheeky, flirty, whimsical, adorable, and perfect.  Perfect for frequent tea drinkers or even those who just like to have fine-bone china on display. So hey, don’t worry about setting the stain, it’s already taken care of. Kathleen

TWO: Julia Baker 6 Piece Purse Box — Julia Baker’s chocolates aren’t just for chocolate lovers… they’re for turning ordinary people into chocolate lovers. Crafted from the heart, each one of Julia’s whimsical truffles and hand-cut chocolates taste like a little piece of (the most delicious) heaven. The six-piece purse box is outfitted with 3 chocolates and 3 truffles, oozing with the most divine French Caramel filling. Any lucky recipient of this purse will want to take it with her whenever she goes, guaranteed.  Carolyn

THREE: Bouchon Bakery Cookbook – New from chef Thomas Keller’s gang (The French Laundry, Ad Hoc) and executive pastry chef Sebastien Rouxel, this cookbook is an aspirational work for any foodie. From French/American classics like brioche and Oh Ohs to the acclaimed Bouchon Bakery TKOs and Nutter Butters, recipes run the gamut from pastries to pet treats. Of course, no Keller cookbook is complete without beautiful photographs and thorough cooking/baking tips, which makes the book — at the very least — great coffee table material. Charli READ MORE

ONE. Huit Lucky Bandeau Bikini Top and Bottom – Have a friend who works out and loves showing off her hard earned bod at the pool? Yeah you know you have (and secretly hate) one of those. Why not indulge her (I mean it is Resort season already) with Huit’s answer to the iconic Baywatch swimsuit ? This bikini is super cute yet sexy in a sporty way. The top comes in standard bra sizes for the perfect fit and is designed with moulded underwire cups  to keep everything in place (and looking good). Whose ready for some laps?! Carolyn

TWO. DvF X NeimanMarcus x Target Yoga Mat – Grab this mat while you can and be the envy of everyone at your yoga studio. Mix fashion and function, the cushioned textured face and back surfaces provide stable, non-slip grip for proper body alignment. Top it off with convenient “love is life” carrying case, this playful mat is designed in an animal-print complete with Diane von Furstenberg’s heart signature on one side and bright red on the reverse. Any active friend will be eager to start saluting the sun! Liz

THREE: On Your Way Duffel – The perfect gym bag is almost impossible to find – either they’re too small or too bulky or come in a hideous color (or more than one of the above!)  So when I spotted what seemed like the perfect one on a girl at the gym, I had to ask her where she bought it, crossing my fingers that it wasn’t something hard to find or already out of stores.  Luckily, the On Your Way Duffel is still available at Lucy stores and online, so I know what I’m buying my yoga loving sister this year.  Everything about it is just great – it’s the exact right size for gym clothes and sneakers, it comes in basic black, it has pockets for your water bottle, and it even has a strap so you can attach your yoga mat on top if that’s your activity of choice.  Even better, it comes with two straps so you can wear it over your shoulder or slung across your body.  See?  Perfect! Stacey  READ MORE

Beauty, InterviewsTDO Interview: Jake Bailey

A month or so back, I had the amazing opportunity to get completely made over by Cover Girl ambassador and celebrity makeup artist Jake Bailey for a fun street-style shoot. As part of the event, I interviewed Jake and asked him to share his fool-proof trick to creating a dramatic smokey eye  and how to get camera ready makeup — perfect for the holiday season! This is also our first video at TDO so we’re pretty excited! Thanks P&G Beauty!

Fashion, Gift Guides2012 Holiday Gifts for the Office

ONE.  Sephora Collection’s Houndstooth Mini Brush – If you (or your office-mates) are anything like me, your office desk makeup stash grows throughout the year. First it’s a lipgloss or lipstick in the pencil tray, then as spring rolls around, you add a couple bronzers or blushes, and during the summer (aka when going-out-after-work season is in full force) you  start keeping a stash of mascaras, eyeshadows, etc ,etc alongside your Scotch tape and Post-It Notes. But you know what we never have? A handy brush set to help us actually apply our makeup properly throughout the day. Sephora Collection’s Houndstooth Mini Brush set is the answer, featuring a powder, eyeliner, eye shadow, and concealer brush — everything you need for a full face touchup. It also comes in a snazzy shimmery case that fits in even the most compact spaces. Plus for only $15, this set probably only costs half as much as your favorite lipgloss. One for each of your office BFFs, one for youself, (and one for me)! Carolyn

TWO. Poppin – “I’m a moleskin kind of girl, too,” someone confided to me recently, glancing approvingly at the sunshine yellow soft color notebook I was using to take notes. “Actually, I’m a Poppin girl!” I replied, “It’s the new office concept from Chris Burch.” Burch, more fondly known round Poppin parts as Poppa Poppin, is the creator of the Staples meets Pantone meets C.Wonder lovechild. Ever wish that all of your office supplies, from notebooks to pen to stapler, was color coordinated in the same vivid shade of royal purple? Poppin can help. Do you have a serious fetish for high performance Japanese ballpoint pens? Poppin can help. Do you want to match your ruler to this season’s “It”, aqua blue eyeliner? Poppin can help. And for this holiday season, Poppin is doing holiday bundles of its best-sellers. Among my favorites is the “All Bundled Up” package, with scissors, a ball-point pen, folio, and two notebooks in lime green and a grown-up shade of Elle Woods pink. So Pop, Poppin it up. Kathleen

THREE. Working Girl’s Survival Kit – Whether you’re gifting this to a recent college grad getting ready to start her first job or an old friend who has been at the same company for over a decade, any woman will appreciate opening the Working Girl’s Survival Kit.  (Even the name is cute!)  The small aluminum attache case has 22 different health and beauty items and can be stashed in your desk (or even your car) to get you through any beauty emergency that could possibly happen at work.  I don’t know about you, but I’m constantly on the hunt for most of the items in it, so it’s a genius idea to be able to stash them all in one place.  The kit includes things like an emery board, a toothbrush and toothpaste, deodorant, mints, a stain remover… even shoe shine wipes.  I kind of want to buy one for all of my friends… and get an extra one for myself.  What working girl wouldn’t want one? Stacey READ MORE

Beauty, MakeupIlluminate Your Eyes

When it comes to the holidays, I love any makeup that’s shimmery, sparkly, glittery… pretty much anything that makes me seem “dressed up.”  It just makes holiday getting ready more fun.  Laura Mercier’s new Illuminating Eye Colours are perfect to fulfill this need in my life this time of year.

They’re fabulously pigmented and can be used wet or dry, plus they have an amazing pearl finish.  It’s shimmery without being overly glittery, so you can easily wear them during the day, as well as out at night.  I love the metallic effect they have too – it’s so pretty and different.  (Can you tell how much I love these?)  I tried Gilded Bronze (a golden topaz) and Gilded Moonlight (a true gold) and both of them will definitely be in serious rotation this holiday season for me.  They also blend easily and last all day, so… pretty much perfect.  Definitely seek these out before they sell out or are retired into the vast wonderland that is limited-edition products.  You won’t regret it.

FashionDedicated: On Meaningful Beauty

cindyHaving maintained this blog for almost seven years now, it’s obvious that we at TDO think a lot about beauty. We’re always talking about new products we’ve found or are currently obsessed with or have always loved. Feeling (and sharing) beauty isn’t just skin deep to us, however — we truly believe that beauty has the power to make everyone feel confident, happy, and our best.

Recently we teamed up with Meaningful Beauty, a skincare regimen developed by Cindy Crawford and her dermatologist Dr. Jean-Louis Sebagh that addresses a lot of the skin challenges faced by women everywhere. As skin ages, it beings to lose luster, moisture, and elasticity (even for supermodels!). Meaningful Beauty skincare contains a powerful super-antioxidant along with rejuvenating ingredients coenzyme Q10 and lipoic acid to help combat a lot of those signs of aging and restore vibrancy. As part of this challenge, we were encouraged to use the kit ourselves for a month. Look out for a more detailed report on how we fared with that shortly.

The other half of the challenge was to participate in some activities that embodied “meaningful beauty” to us. For me, that meant doing things that positively impact others since those are the activities I find most rewarding. This week, I surprised my overworked boyfriend with a trip to the spa where he indulged in a much needed massage. Last week, I sent my mom an early surprise holiday gift — a hydroponic herb garden so she could grow fresh ingredients right at home. When I first started this challenge, I didn’t really know what kinds of activities I was going to participate in, but as it turns out, there are so many things you can do that positively impacts other. For me, that’s what meaningful beauty means — and creating happiness and positively is surely one of the keys to eternal youthful beauty.

FashionElizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream

AllisonWilliamsI’ve written before about my superhero special power for surviving long plane rides. And one new addition to my dry skin toolbelt is Elizabeth Arden’s Eight Hour Cream, the cult product long revered by makeup artists, beauty editors, and celebrities. A welcome contrast to my beloved gel formula moisturizers, the hydration for the Eight Hour Cream comes in balm form with an ingredient list of Vitamin E, lanolin, and salicylic acid.  With its thick paste, vaguely-Vaseline-y texture (56.8% petrolatum,) and slightly medicinal scent, at first, I didn’t really get the hype. At then I applied it to an oven burn I got earlier in the week. I dotted it on my eyelids for an all-natural makeup day. And I dabbed it in my lips prior to a outside run and I finally “got it.”

Eight Hour Cream is one of those mystical products that is appears to be able to do everything: condition, add shine, and hydrate. My burn healed faster, my eyelids had that “backstage makeup” freshness, and my lips were completely unaffected by the winter winds. Legend has it that Elizabeth herself, used it to rub down her thoroughbred horses. Since it does err on the paste side, it is best used as a preventative measure and sealing in moisture, rather than adding. I suggest using it in those forgotten areas that get easily neglected (cuticles, elbows, that tricky place underneath your ankle you always seem to miss when exfoliating) and then slathering it all over your hands and lips once you settle into what passes for an airline seat nowadays. But don’t just take it from me: Allison Williams of Girls is also a fan, picking some up last week at the Elizabeth Arden pop-up shop.
