I try a lot of beauty products, but I’m pretty picky when it comes to blogging about them. It’s not always easy to find the really great stuff, but recently almost every new beauty obsession I’ve have comes from the drugstore. Fabulous and accessible — what could be better? Read on for my top 5 buys of the moment:
1.. e.l.f. Lip Exfoliator — e.l.f. is one of those brands where everything is under $6, so you don’t really know what to think of it until you actually try the products, realize that they’re awesome, and then can’t stop recommending them to everyone you know. Their latest gem is the Lip Exfoliator, which is perfect x10 for chapped, wintery lips. The sugar based scrub comes in a lipstick style tube and you simply apply to damp lips (I’m known to go extra hard on the flaky parts) and then wipe off. The ingredients list is short, sweet, and easy to understand (sugar, avocado oil, grape seed oil, jojoba seed oil, shea butter) and infused with a lot of goodies to help relieve dry lips while exfoliating. It’s portable so you can use it anywhere and there’s absolutely no greasy residue. Love. $3.
2. Cerave Sunscreen — There are few things in life that get me more excited than really good sunblock. And when this really good sublock comes from one of my favorite skincare brands ever, is rigorously tested to comply with new FDA regulations, and is infused with skin saving cermaides and hyaluronic acid, well let’s just say that excited is an understatement (yes I understand I’m talking about sunscreen right now). The new line of suncare from CeraVe features broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection, is lightweight and oil free, comes in face and body formulations, and is water resistant for up to 80 minutes (as tested by sitting in a hot tub for that time duration, yikes). Also it’s a physical sunblock (which I prefer to a chemical), but the zinc oxide is micro-fine and doesn’t leave that annoying white residue. The only bad news? Outside of the sunbelt states, it’s not available in store or online until April. The next time your bff heads to Miami, be sure to ask her to pick some up for you. $10-$17
3. Playtex Fresh + Sexy Wipes — *ahemmmm* not to get too personal here, but it’s really hard for me to feel sexy (or comfortable even) when I don’t feel fresh..down there. The new Fresh + Sexy wipes by Playtex are designed for freshening up before and cleaning up after a romp with your lover. They wipes made of a super soft fabric and are alcohol-free and hypoallergenic to suit your sensitive areas. Plus they’re flushable so disposal is quick and discreet. They come in a 40 wipe tub (only suitable if you and your man are at the point where you’d feel comfortable asking him to grab one for you), a 24 wipe resealable Travel Pack (for long weekends in Miami…see a theme here btw?), and single, individually wrapped wipes (my preference). So stash a few in your purse for your next big date — it’s what Bridget Jones of 2013 would do. $6-8
4. Garnier BB Cream for Combination to Oily Skin — When I tried this new BB Cream, I felt like the BB Cream Gods made this one just for me. I really liked the original Garnier BB Cream but thought it was a tad heavy. Actually I find most BB creams a tad heavy (must be all the skin saving ingredients they pack in there), but this new one is so lightweight, it feels like applying tinted water. And the coverage and finish are unbelievable — it product instantly evens skin tone with a very natural (not too matte, not too radiant), yet better-than-bare finish. A little bit also goes a long way since the product spreads very smoothly. This will probably be the only BB cream I’ll use once the weather heats up, but even for the winter I’m loving it. $12
5. Maybelline Color Whisper Lipsticks — This new collection from Maybelline ranks up there as possibly my most favorite drugstore lipsticks of all times. The collection features a beautiful range of color from nudes to brights that are designed to flatter gals of all skintones. The lipstick uses new technology that suspends the color pigment in a gel (no waxes or oils) so not only does it glide on, it’s practically weightless while on the lips. It has a slightly glossy finish and feels very comfortable and moisturizing. The stick also comes with a soft honey-nectar scent that brings me back to my teenage potted lipgloss days (only in the best way) and has quite a rich color payoff. The only caveat is that some of the lighter shades seem to wear off quickly, but since applying the product is such a pleasure, I don’t even mind reapplying often throughout the day. $5-$6.
Let me know if you’ve tried any of these and if you love as much as I do!
