Olay Pro-X Even Skin Tone Protocol
Just credit my Asian genes, but every time I see new products that claim to fade dark spots, even skin tone, or brighten complexion, I just must get my hands on them. Many say that us Asians are lucky because we are less likely to wrinkle as we age (up to a certain point, of course) thanks to genetics that give us larger oil glands that keep our skin more supple (I guess that’s a nice way to put it). On the flip side, we do have to worry (a lot) about developing age spots and skin tone discoloration. Actually scratch out the “age” in “age spots.” I’ve been battling discoloration on my legs since I scratched too hard at mosquito bites one summer when I was 12. The sad truth is, I (and my fellow Asian sisters and brothers) are more susceptible to hyperpigmentation and melasma — which brings me back to my original point: I love trying out a good product that promises to even skin tone, fade dark spots, and most importantly, prevent them from forming in the first place.
Recently Olay Professional launched a new line of products: Pro-X Even Skin Tone Correcting Protocol which promises to do exactly all of the above. Of course it’s not just genetics that cause uneven skin tone, so in order to fix it, the scientists at Olay also took into consideration many other factors such as UV exposure, lack of hydration, weak moisture barrier and surface free radicals and created a skincare system that address each of those root problems.
The kit contains a Spot Fading Treatment, a concentrated hydroquinone alternative that helps fade the appearance of dark spots and skin discoloration and is meant to be used both morning and evening. The kit also contains two moisturizers — one for day use and one for evening. The Anti-Oxidant Sunscreen Sheer Daily Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 35 is the day regimen which contains broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection (the best defense against spots and discoloration) and anti-oxidants that help prevent surface free radical damage. Notice I didn’t say morning regimen, because to be 100% effective, this product should be re-applied every two hours while in the sun. The evening treatment is Olay’s new Brightening Renewal Cream, which hydrates to keep skin healthy and transforms dull skin into a more radiant texture.
Olay claims that this new professional regimen should get the job done in as little as 4 weeks. Well, I’m putting it to the test (and I’m going to try that spot reducer on my leg spots..so it will be a test). Stay tuned for my results in March, so you can decide if you should test it too.

Fun! I’m excited to hear about your results from this Oil of Olay test since I’m Asian too, Chinese even, just like you! I find it appalling how much some of the expensive designer anti-spot treatment creams cost. It would be exciting if this drugstore product really works. Keep us posted!
