Accessories, IntimatesThe Little Black Chantelle Bra

Ah summer…I don’t know about you, but my seasonal wardrobe is stocked full of sheer little pieces with delicate little straps. And if you’re anything like me, the first thought that comes to mind is “how cute” followed by “how do I wear this?” Well after a couple seasons of unsuccessfully trying to hide a nude bra underneath my summer tops, I’m here to say that the only solution is (1) start with a good back scrub and (2) wear a sexy, look-at-me black bra loud and proud.

When deciding which undergarment to put on display, I usually follow a few key rules. First, I always reach for a black bra instead of a brightly colored one. Not only is black universally sexy, it makes the peek-a-boo look intentional, not absent-minded like a hot pink bra under a white t-shirt. Second, the bra in question should be pretty, in addition to sexy. I always look for fine lace details, interesting textures, flowers, or embroidery. And lastly, the bra should be comfortable and perfectly fitted–this is not the time for unsightly gaps or awkward movements.

One of my favorite purveyors of the little black bra is Chantelle. Hailing from France, the luxury label has got that understated sexy Parisian flair perfected. I recently swung by their showroom to look at la lingerie noire, and came out with a long wish list of little black bras. I love the gorgeous Tuileries Demi Bra (pictured above) with the unusual tulle straps, perfect for the confident gals with the goods to rock it. For a safer alternative that is just as sexy, I’m obsessed with the Paris Paris T-Shirt Bra, which is totally wearable even if you’re feeling a little shy or just easing into the look. And if you’re already a seasoned pro, try the Palais Royal Demi Bra, which features florals, animal skin lace, strategically sheer panels, and scalloped edges. Let’s just say our little white silk tops are about to get a whole new life. Which little black bra is on your wishlist this summer?

I tend to go for a lace bandeau under sheer tops. While they do tend to squish the goods they look intentional and I don’t have to worry about about showing too much.
