Sometime this September, I will have lived in New York City for seven years…which means, I am officially a New Yorker! To celebrate, I invited my best friend to stay with me at the very aptly named New Yorker Suite at the Carlton Hotel for a weekend getaway when she was in town a few weeks ago. The stylishly appointed 1,050 square foot penthouse suite embodies the all the fantasy, glitz, and romance of the city’s past and present, while the lower Midtown location makes it uber-convenient for visitors (her) and residents (me) alike.
The Carlton Hotel, which recently redesigned a number of it’s signature suites wanted to pay homage to the glamour of New York’s past. Stepping into the New Yorker Suite, you’re instantly transported into a different era. Gone is tiny studio apartment living we’re all accustomed to now–the suite opens into an expansive living area, separate bedroom, corner office stocked with a bar (Don Draper approved). The centerpiece of the suite’s living room is a custom 12-foot Chesterfield sofa and a set of handsome canopied chairs (so Bergdorf Goodman!). The room also features a large white lacquer crocodile-embossed dining table, 1960s Italian Art Deco console table, and dazzling chandelier dripping with crystals. The walls throughout the suite are decorated with iconic New Yorker Magazine art covers from the 1920’s to today–cohesively tying together the theme of the space.
The main room then leads into a large bedroom which features a grand, six-foot upholstered King size bed and bathroom complete with a sunken Jacuzzi, double vanities and a glass standing shower.
With such a beautiful space (and so much of it), The New Yorker Suite is perfect for hosting a few guests for a stylish night in. No time to cook? No problem! The Carlton’s restaurant, Millesime, offers delicious French brasserie cuisine focusing on seafood with a nightly raw oyster bar. If throwing a more lavish party is on your agenda, The New Yorker Suite also connects to an joining corner suite for a full penthouse experience.
