Fitness & Health, FoodAll Aboard the Graze Craze

Graze

Every day around 3 p.m., I get the munchies. You know, right before the sleepies kick in. And almost every day, I’m totally unprepared. The jar of mixed nuts on my desk has been reduced to crumbs. I’m out of Maccha Green Tea Kit Kats. I have no change for the overpriced Doritos in the vending machine. Life is rough. ;-)

But yesterday, life got smoother when Ping! My co-worker emailed me with a coveted Graze invitation code. Headquartered in London, Graze is a food-meets-tech startup that offers nutritious, delicious mail-order snacks. To use the service, members rate the snacks they want to try, specify where to ship them, and choose whether to receive them biweekly or monthly.

With help from a patented algorithm called DARWIN that customizes snack choices based on member preferences, Graze staff packs and ships snack boxes to members in the U.S. and the U.K. DARWIN also helps staff members ensure there are multiple tastes and textures are represented in each box, and that any user-selected dietary requirements are satisfied. And, get this, every box is just $6, including shipping!

Started by seven friends who “wanted a better way to snack,” Graze features more than 90 healthy, gourmet snacks, including Black Pepper Pistachios and Billionaire’s Shortbread (fudge pieces, blanched almonds, milk chocolate drops and cranberries). There are also low-calorie options such as Garden of England (mini dried strawberries, dried black currants and dried apples) and Korai Chutney (spiced tomato chutney with baked curry bites).

Graze’s Taste Team says they are dedicated to discovering new flavors and creating unique snack combinations that will delight their customers. They also work with small suppliers and an in-house nutritionist to ensure high-quality ingredients and nutritional benefits come with each snack they offer. And they portion the snacks appropriately so you don’t gorge.

One of the things I appreciate most about Graze is the company’s dedication to quality control. Their boxes and presentation are so well designed, and their user experience is practically seamless! You can rate each snack from Trash (never send) to Love (send often), but since there are so many snacks and only four spots in the box, there’s enough flexibility for built-in surprises with each shipment. With advanced notice, you can stop or start shipments at any time, and each shipment comes in a biodegradable, recyclable cardboard box that fits in a standard mailbox. (No signing or waiting!)

To join the¬†Graze craze, ask around! The service is currently invitation-only, so you need to know a member who can send you an invitation code. If you don’t know a member, you can still join the waiting list. As the company expands, they’ll reach out to new customers.
