If there’s one thing I want to do this polar winter more than anything else, it is to cuddle! Not only is cuddling good for stealing a little body heat, but it warms the soul. It’s no wonder that Valentine’s Day falls right amidst the coldest season, when there’s nothing more appealing than finding someone special to get close to. The absolute must-have for cuddling up this winter is the Daydream blanket by aden + anais which is something of an actual dream come true for me.
Since the days when I only trusted aden + anais blankets to swaddle my newborn with, I have been secretly wishing I had my own version of this beautiful baby blanket. As soon as I found out that their ultra-soft signature cotton muslin weave is now available in a generous size at 60″ x 72″, I was counting the minutes until I could curl up and get warm under it. I’m not ashamed to say, it’s almost like an adult security blanket for me since it follows me around the house whether it’s sitting under it with my morning coffee (ok, that only happens on Saturdays), or after a long day of work as I plop on the couch. Some chilly nights it even finds its way to bed, thrown over the comforter for some extra warmth. The Daydream blanket actually contains four layers of muslin, not a bit of filler here! As soon as my skin touches an inch of the fabric, it just can’t get enough of it. I can attest to the amazing quality- not only does it somehow get softer with every wash, but holds up under multiple launderings and tumbles through the dryer.
The touching story behind the sweet design of Hayden’s Heart special edition aden + anais swaddle put tears in my eyes. I learned that little Hayden was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome and became an angel at just five months. Even through three open heart surgeries, Hayden was a warrior whose smile could melt any heart. Hayden couldn’t fall asleep without the comfort of his aden + anais muslin swaddles, so it’s a fitting tribute to have this especially precious swaddle keep his story alive. In memory of Hayden and in honor of all of the children fighting Congenital Heart Disease (CHD), these 100% cotton swaddles were designed to raise awareness for Hayden’s Heart Inc. The mission of Hayden’s Heart is to not only raise Congenital Heart Defect (CHD) awareness and to help keep Hayden’s memory close, but to also help many families with their immense medical bills and travel expenses. This 100% cotton muslin swaddle is a perfect size to swaddle with- it’s generously cut to make it easy, and the cotton itself is lightweight and breathable to reduce risk of overheating. As always, the signature high-quality weave gets softer with each wash. I’ve often draped the blanket over the top of the stroller during naptime to shade delicate skin from the sun’s harsh rays. In a pinch, it also works as a picnic blanket (can you tell I’m dreaming of warmer weather?) or for now, a tummy time blanket. This Valentine’s Day calls for a heart for a heart in need, so remember Hayden’s Heart swaddle for any little one in your life.
Saving the sweetest for last, I love macarons as a chic alternative to chocolate for V-day. My penchant for macarons precedes the days that they were de rigueur, and I’m quite picky about the taste and texture. When I tried a few of Dana’s Bakery macarons, I was pleasantly surprised by the soft and moist texture and unique flavors. The founder of Dana’s Bakery, Dana Loia was a photo editor turned baker who graduated with honors from New York’s Institute of Culinary Education. She has brought fresh perspective to the world of macaron flavors. The Valentine’s edition includes Dark Chocolate Raspberry, Chocolate Molten, Chocolate Caramel, Milk Chocolate Pistachio, Dark Chocolate and Orange, and Chocolate Passionfruit. I love that these macarons hold up even with shipping, and even have cute messages on them just for the holiday. This is not your ordinary macaron!
