I’m entering that stage in my life where it feels like everyone I know is becoming or is a new mama. I get to play auntie to adorable babies and kids, spoil them, and then give them back to their parents when the fun is over (best part of kids that aren’t yours, right?). However, that means that my devices have lately become the favorite toys (or distraction) for these kids, who are so tech-savvy at a young age. It was time to beef up the protection on those gadgets that could potentially be dropped, spilled on, etc. I looked to Griffin Technology‘s Survivor series, which is an “extreme-duty” case for your devices, to help me out.
The case itself is “a shatter-resistant polycarbonate frame clad in rugged, shock absorbing silicone” with a “built-in screen protector” for your display. It also has hinged plugs seal to seal the dock connector, camera lens, volume controls, etc. and has stand clips on – perfect for kids to play games or to watch Thomas & Friends on Netflix.
I tested the Survivor case for the iPad mini. For me, it has to be a marriage of style and function, so I prefer the minimal Clear/White, but you can choose from 14 color options or create a custom one. The silicone is soft and grippy so it’s nice for the touch, and the smooth polycarbonate makes it durable and sturdy. I let a 2-year old play with my iPad mini, and with the Survivor case, it happily came away unscathed (except for many, many tiny fingerprints – ha!).
The Survivor series is available for iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Kindle, and Samsung Galaxy devices – and specifically, will be newly available for Samsung Galaxy TabPro 8.4 and Tab4 in late June.
