Beauty, InternationalBest of British: Elemis

The sentiment of cheering for sports has never made sense to me. My high school football team had a record of 1 (wins) – 19 (losses.) I went to a university where the mascot was the viola adorata, better known as the fighting violet. But during the Olympics, my inner Bill Simmons comes forth and I become the rabid sports fan I could have been (had I been raised in a house where the SuperBowl and not QuizBowl was celebrated.)

In honor of the epic event being hosted across the pond, we’ve decided to highlight some of our favorite UK beauty products the next few weeks. We start first with an old TDO favorite (the subject of our first beauty product spotlight when we were only one year old!): Elemis. A favorite of Victoria Beckham and many other beauty editors, it’s a standard in UK spas and holds a cherished spot on many beauty vanities.

To kick off the games, Elemis is hosting a special promotion for TDO readers allowing you to stock up on your skincare favorites for 25% off from July 26th through July 31st . Use code BRITISH25 at TimetoSpa.com to redeem. Not sure what to buy? Here are some of our favorites.

Beauty, Skincare, Spas & SalonsElemis and Bliss

Great news for fans of the prestige skin care line, Elemis–two of its amazing body and facial spa treatments will be available at Bliss Spas starting in August! I love Elemis products (we’ve featured them several times on TDO) and am so excited that the spa treatments are going to be more accessible now–at all of Bliss’s US locations and internationally in its London and Hong Kong spas. Yay!

Bliss will feature Elemis’ Tri-Enzyme Resurfacing Facial and Exotic Lime and Ginger Salt Glow treatments. The Tri-Enzyme Facial has been clinically shown to resurface the skin by up to 75% after just one treatment by stimulating the natural exfoliation of the top layer of skin. It smooths your skin and reduces fine lines, as well. The Lime and Ginger Salt Glow features a light body brushing, warm oil application, exfoliation, and moisturizing–using great Elemis products, of course.

These Elemis treatments will be launching at Bliss Spas on August 1st. You can find a complete list of Bliss locations at blissworld.com.

Beauty, SkincareTDO Beauty Spotlight: Elemis

Editor’s Note: I’m excited to introduce a new series called TDO Beauty Spotlight! With this series, we intend to introduce up-and-coming brands and their line of products in detail to you. We hope to expand your knowledge about various beauty brands and assist you in discovering new products that may work for you!

Posh and Becks aren’t my only British loves as of late. A few weeks ago, I discovered an amazing British skincare lined called Elemis that I have not been able to stop obsessing over.

ABOUT THE BRAND: Elemis is the leading luxury British spa with a line of products that is making its way over to this side of the Atlantic. Developed with the latest technology and using the highest quality natural active ingredients, Elemis invests heavily in research and development. A line of scientists and doctors formulate, monitor and test each product from its conception through its clinical trials. Each product must achieve a “statistically significant” effect on the skin before it’s released to market, thus making their products some of the most powerful skincare treatments available.

I don’t know where to start talking about this line of products because I’ve absolutely loved every single product I’ve tried. In order to prepare for this feature, I exclusively used Elemis products for two weeks straight — and the change in my skin has been incredible. Even after a couple of days, my skin cleared up and started glowing; now, at the 2 week mark, I’m confident enough to skip foundation! For me, this line has been absolutely revolutionary. READ MORE

Beauty, SkincarePapaya Enzyme Peel by Elemis

The Papaya Enzyme Peel by Elemis ($42) is “a rinse-off exfoliating cream, rich in fruit enzymes, smoothes, conditions and repairs deep down.” Made of natural fruit enzymes, it aims to smooth and purify the complexion with exfoliating papaya and calming pineapple. Milk protein, sunflower extract, vitamin E and marine algae provide moisturization while protecting against and repairing free radical damage. To use, begin by cleansing (and toning, if you’d like) your facial skin. Then, apply the product onto your skin, avoiding the eye area. Leave for 10-15 minutes and rinse off with lukewarm water.

We love the fresh, light tropical scent – so yummy! The consistency of the product is very smooth and easy to apply onto skin. Almost immediately, you can feel your skin tightening, but it does not cause discomfort or irritate skin. After washing off, our skin felt and looked SO baby smooth and glowy, as if we just had a purifying spa facial without the downtime. Totally amazing! You can really see the results within one use. It’s probably one of the best masks we’ve ever used; we’ll definitely be raving about this to our friends. This gentle peel is really ideal for sensitive skin types (as it doesn’t provoke breakouts like other products), but works on practically anyone!

Hotels, TravelSouthern Sanctuary: Kiawah Island Resort

kiawah

On the drive to the gem that is Kiawah Island Resort just outside Charleston, South Carolina, I fell in love with the South all over again. The sun twinkled through the towering trees and hanging spanish moss to create a fantastical charm that simply cannot be found anywhere else. The resort is built on an island 10 miles wide, lined with wide scenic beaches and is one of the world’s premier destinations for golf (the Ocean Course is a past host of the PGA Tournament), thus making it my husband’s favorite place on earth. Accommodations can be custom tailored to visitors’ needs, from the award-winning Sanctuary Hotel to gorgeous houses ranging from traditional to contemporary that can be rented by the night (perfect for our next visit with our daughter!). The Sanctuary is an elegant mansion overflowing with graceful decor from sumptuous fabrics to soaring windows, inviting the panoramic ocean view in. The resort has won several Conde Nast Travel awards, including #1 Resort on the U.S. Mainland and #1 Island in North America. The top-notch service of the resort is a testament to their recognition, with someone always eager to be of help, whether in the pools or restaurants. READ MORE

Bath & Body, Lust List, SkincareScrub Away!

elemisIt’s that time of year again where I am frantically doing cleanses, working out, and scrubbing up, trying to get in decent shape for baring a little more skin as spring becomes bolder. My favorite part of all this (not surprisingly) is the most luxurious and indulgent–full body exfoliation with Elle Beauty Award Winner Elemis Tranquil Touch Body Polish. Working out releases endorphins which put you on a mental and physical high, and also sheds toxins which depend on your routine following to rid your body of them. Drinking plenty of water boosts this process and a great scrub in the shower afterwards sheds dead skin to leave you with the ultimate glow!

The body polish is one of the best scrubs I’ve tried–the texture is finer than most, and the product uses a natural rice exfoliator to sweep away impurities gently and soften the skin. Moisturizing Cupuacu butter smoothes and conditions while combating the effects of harsh soaps we put our skin through on a daily basis. The scent is refreshing and soothing with essential oils of patchouli, mandarin and ginger, and I must say it really smells like a spa. Elemis uses only carefully sourced ingredients, and is free from parabens, SLS, SLES, DEA, mineral oils, artificial colors and silicones. Using circular motions, I apply and rub in the scrub without too much pressure, letting the body polish do the heavy lifting. My skin feels luxuriously soft, glowing and radiant after my steam shower, and I’m so relaxed afterwards. It’s a great incentive for relaxing after the workout!

Bath & Body, SkincareTreat Your Feet

elemistreatyourfeet
Dreaming of spring yet with all this mopey cold and wet winter weather?  Now that the winter sales frenzy has passed, training for spring wardrobes commences!  No, I’m not talking about hitting the gym or juice-cleansing, but rather getting those feet pampered and refreshed and ready for sandals. Elemis’ Treat Your Feet foot cream is the best I’ve ever encountered, hands down. So many creams claim to be rich and potent enough (trust me, I’ve been around the block looking for a good one), but to get my crackly heels in buttery soft condition, it takes something almost nuclear. This emulsion of shea butter and jojoba oil is intensely moisturizing and just melts into your skin and it passes my usual tests of screening out the bad stuff:  it’s free from parabens, SLS, SLES, DEA, mineral oils, artificial colors and silicones.

The texture of this foot butter is luxurious, without any heaviness or greasiness, and it smells fabulous: think aromatic patchouli, eucalyptus, and lemon oils. Just generously apply a layer before bed, slip on some warm comfy socks, and in the morning, say hello to your new soft soles!  Here’s a little secret — I put a coating on my hands before bed as well, and am treated to rejuvenated skin in the morning. With Elemis, you really can have a “spa at home,” every night.  Light a candle, put on some music, and massage away (better yet, have someone do it for you!).

Beauty, Mom & Kids, SkincareStretch No More

Editor’s Note: When we first started TDO some 7+ years ago, we were all still in high school (ok not really, but it certainly feels that way looking back). Now our set of editors and contributors are all scattered around the country kicking ass in life and career: some with their own successful businesses, many married, all well traveled and with a lot of experience and stories to share. Needless to say, we’ve grown up quite a bit over the majority of the past decade and the content on TDO has also reflected the shift in our interests as we move through different stages and milestones in our lives. This week, we’re excited to bring on a new contributor, Grace, recently a mom and likely the most stylish one you’ll meet. She’ll be blogging about beauty, fashion and lifestyle from her point of view and we could not be more excited to have her on board!

elemisWhen I found out I was pregnant, the thought immediately popped into my head that bikini days would be over for good (along with adult conversations, travel, and spontaneous dinners).  Fortunately, beauty-saavy friends pointed me to Elemis’ Japanese Camellia Oil and alerted me to the fact that Victoria Beckham also used it during all her pregnancies. At first, I thought I might prefer a cream to an oil, but I found that the product absorbs beautifully and softens as it works. Most importantly, I didn’t have to worry about anything harsh going through my skin, because it’s a fine blend of Japanese camellia extract and sweet almond oil, free from parabens, SLS, SLES, DEA, mineral oils, artificial colors and silicones.

It soon became a ritual and a luxury to apply the oil twice daily (particularly nice after showering) as I watched my belly grow… and start to move!  I’m convinced my baby loved the in utero massage. Though I was turned onto the product originally because it promised to combat stretch marks, I soon started applying it everywhere on my body, even on my nails. Despite my liberal use of the oil, only a small amount is needed to get the job done — I got through nine months with one bottle, zero stretch marks (Ed. note: so lucky!!!), and even have enough left to moisturize this winter. Now for those other excuses not to get into a swimsuit…

HairBest of British: Molton Brown Plum-kadu Glossing Haircare Set

As the Olympics come to a close in London, we’ll also be wrapping up our Best of British series – thought we couldn’t really sign off without telling you guys about the most luxurious haircare ever, the new Plum-kadu shampoo and conditioner set from Molton Brown. It’s not just that the soft-touch bottle is so amazing to hold and the vibrant color lights up any bathroom, the stuff inside is pretty great too.  Plum Kadu, from the Australian rainforest, detoxifies hair made dull from city pollution or just too many trips to the pool, while Moringa Seed Extract helps nourish, moisturize and soften hair. The shampoo and conditioner also contain light reflectors to help hair look glossier and healthier immediately after use. And, of course, true to Molton Brown nature, the shampoo smells amazing, blended with scents of cardamom, waterfruits and sandalwood. As far as luxurious shower experiences go, this set pretty much takes the gold.

Gift GuidesHoliday Gift Guide ’10: Man Up

ONE. Philips Norelco SensoTouch 3D Electric Razor — We have found the Holy Grail of electric shavers with the Philips Norelco SensoTouch 3D, and any man should be so lucky to get it as a gift this holiday season! The shaving heads follow contours and curves perfectly, allowing for a smooth shave every time, wet or dry. Its handle features an ergonomic grip for better control and precision, and it’s cordless, complete with a travel pouch. To sum up, it shaves well, handles well, and travels well – perfect.

TWO. Kenneth Cole Dress Belt Box Set — Our contributing LA editor says that almost every year, her husband requests a new belt, which apparently many men need. Over time, she’s realized that belts wear out, and it’s really hard to find a simple yet stylish, decent-quality belt that looks just as good with a suit as it does with jeans. We love that this box set offers four ways to wear a reversible leather belt: black, brown, dressed up or dressed down — and all for a good price, $58. And because it’s so multi-purpose, it almost qualifies as a gadget. So boyfriend, husband, brother, Dad … they’ll all get something out of it.

THREE. HTC Windows Phone –Guys always love the latest and coolest gadgets, so this is the perfect gift for the man who could use a bit of mobile upgrading.  The HTC Windows Phone is currently carried on T-Mobile and AT&T (with Verizon coming in the near future) and combines the hardware prowess of HTC phones with the new Windows 7 mobile operating system.  The work/personal  phone is completely customizable and integrates all his social media accounts into one central place.  Now he can open his phone and check your latest tweets, foursquare check-ins, and Facebook updates on one screen. Annoyed by your boyfriend working on the weekend? The HTC phone makes it easy just to turn off work email alerts until Monday morning. Though I generally shy away from touchscreen phones, the 4.3in screen is very user friendly, with typing feedback and the auto-correct is much less invasive than on the iPhone.  Plus the 5mb camera is superior to any other phone camera I’ve tried (all the better to take pictures of you) and comes with XBox Live (for the guy guy in him.)
