SkincareEve Lom White Collection

eveEvery year around this time, I am thirsting for a little bit of warmth and sun (the blizzards just don’t do it for me, and my skin takes the brunt of the harsh weather!). The weeks creep by slowly but surely with the promise of spring just around the corner. This bit of foreshadowing prompts me to do some prep in anticipation of brighter days, and my face is just itching for a pick-me-up. I love EVE LOM for its quality and effective innovations, and the Brightening Cream is no exception. The idea behind the cream is to bring radiance to skin while tweaking hyperpigmentation and hydrating. I’ve been using the cream for over four weeks now, and am enjoying my even, brighter skin tone and a smoother complexion. My routine each evening includes cleansing and exfoliation (twice a week), and applying the brightening cream in a circular motion concentrating on upward strokes and covering my neck as well. While I sleep, the cream is hard at work, and I wake up feeling youthful and hydrated!

Obsessions, SkincareAll Eyes All the Time

future-response-age-defense-dual-eye-creme-2The deluge of snow we’re slowly digging gave us a great time to rest and recharge, but was also a reminder that especially in the dead of winter, our skin needs around-the-clock protection from the icy winds and sun damage. For the skiiers and snowboarders out there, it’s imperative to use a good sunscreen since a combination of high altitudes and UV rays reflecting off the snow make it a risk for overexposure.  While I’m sticking to dodging snow piles to get around the city, I’ve been extra careful to protect my face, and especially my eye area. I love Amore Pacific’s Future Response Age Defense Dual Eye Creme, which ensures that the uber-delicate eye area is protected 24-hours a day whether out in the sun or recharging for the evening. Celeb favorite (ahem, Emma Roberts) brand Amore Pacific is rooted deep in Korean tradition utilizing the powerful polyphenols from green tea leaves among other antioxidants, and I’ve noticed the efficient bundle of ingredients improving my eye area. Using a tiny bit of the day and night creme every 24 hours, the thin skin under my eyes is looking healthier in just a few weeks with a younger plump to it instead of dark and line-ridden skin.

New York, Spas & SalonsHaven Spa

HavenSpa_ReceptionAreaAround this time of year, it can get crazy with shopping and traveling, and skin absorbs and shows the stress and extra sugar that come with the holidays! I decided to take a break from it all and give my face what it’s been sorely in need of- a thorough facial at the beautiful new location of Haven Spa.

My very talented therapist Irina listened to my concerns prior to starting treatment, which included dry winter skin, blocked pores, and pesky sun spots. She suggested that instead of the Boot Camp Facial which I had signed up for, to try the HydraFacial. I’m so grateful that she took the initiative to recommend this, because it was exactly what my skin had been aching for for months! She could tell from my pores that I had major blockages, and she customized the facial and product selection to maximize effectiveness for me. The HydraFacial works on all skin types, but does wonders on congested and dehydrated skin. During the cleansing and steam, Irina used bold, firm strokes in combination with small circular movements to efficiently stimulate circulation while promoting lymphatic drainage. A complete excavating exfoliation was done for me, which of course hurts-so-good! The focal part of the treatment utilized a hi-tech infusion of moisture and incorporated a light acid treatment to cleanse. A dual action mask was also customized for me, one part for my T-zone and another formula for the areas surrounding. The HydraFacial delivers bright and even skin tone, exfoliation, and hydration in one highly effective appointment.

Beauty, Insider's Obsessions, Mom & Kids, SkincareBest of the Best: 2015 Roundup

Our year-end wrap is an amazing time to look back and select our favorites, the indispensables that we could not imagine life without. The Best-of-the-Best list is all about tried and true products in every category. There’s something for everyone!

luxeSkincare. La Prairie’s Skin Caviar Luxe Cream has maintained a cult following among the beauty-obsessed for good reason; it has legendary transformative properties which start skin glowing after only 3-4 days and with consistent use, lasts for years. I refer to it as my miracle cream, because it’s saved me from breakouts from pregnancy hormones and keeps me looking rested despite sleepless nights. The caviar extract coupled with La Paririe’s exclusive Cellular Complex recontours by working on age-lines and tightens skin. The amount of moisture it retains is nonpareil, and it’s really a long term investment in your skin to maintain and augment dewy, youthful, and well-nourished skin. The caviar is perfect for dry and sensitive skin, especially with cold snowy days in our near future. A small pearl of the luxe cream will go a long way, and the 1.7 oz jar will last for months, keeping skin looking much younger than its chronological age. The clean and luxurious scent doesn’t linger long, but the effects of the creme, under makeup and overnight, can rival a facelift.

Bath & BodySkin Indulgence

polishI’ve realized that the only true “me-time” I get on many days is when I take a shower, and my muscles release stored tension from work and family. The soothing sound of water pouring drowns out anyone calling for my attention and I’m in my own little world. Though it may only be for a few precious minutes each day, I have learned to efficiently unwind and also treat myself and my skin to a luxurious ritual, Molton Brown’s Pink Pepper Body Polisher. The new Body Polisher line is superb, with subtle differences in composition and texture for each- like a distinct personality! I love the energizing feeling I get on my skin from the spicy-sweet Pink Pepper, and the smoothness of moisturized skin is palpable even as the polisher rinses off.

HairThink Pink for Hair

hairPink is everywhere (even refs in the NFL games!) to acknowledge and support Breast Cancer Awareness Month. My mother is a brave breast-cancer survivor, so I love supporting the cause whenever possible. HairArt International, which is a highly respected family-owned leader in hair tools and appliances, has put out a special series H3000 Collection of high-tech heat styling designs in pink which were created to benefit the National Breast Cancer Foundation. NBCF will receive 10% of the proceeds from this fabulous collection, which is not only fun and girly, but incredibly functional. Ever since I heard Ken Paves say that wet hair is particularly vulnerable to breakage, I’ve winced when tugging a brush through my long hair after a shower. That all changed when I discovered HairArt’s H3000 Tourmaline Ceramic Boar Bristle Round Brush which is gentle and forgiving, but still gets the job done. I’ve often heard that boar bristles are the big secret behind luscious, healthy hair, while working well with heat styling. The brush does add lustrous shine, great volume allows for styling minus the static.  This well-balanced ionic brush features a ceramic barrel to distribute heat evenly and a lightweight handle for easy styling. I’m forever looking for an outstanding comb that I can use for precise styling and straightening, and HairArt’s comb series fits the bill. They are specially designed to resist heat and add extra shine to hair while resisting that pesky static cling.

Mom & KidsArt for Kids

bradfordbook1It’s never too early to expose the younger set to the world of art, especially since imaginations run wild and creativity abounds in fresh minds. An introduction easily made at home is with the bright and colorful book SIX, which is no ordinary counting board book. The author Katherine Bradford is an accomplished New York artist who is known for her portrayal of ships and water, which I find luminous and whimsical. Her work is displayed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Museum, and the Portland Museum.

Mom & KidsJJ Rabbit

Slider-CUPPIES41Mealtime just became a lot more stylish and easy with the smartly designed collection from JJ Rabbit. The line was clearly thought up by parents with a lot of experience with toddlers but with one eye responsibly on safe, environmentally-sound materials. Plant-based construction is something I find astounding, and on some level still can’t believe that the sturdy plastic cups and plates are biodegradable and compostable, made from corn and sugarcane! They’re still dishwasher safe (phew!), and don’t contain any BPAs, pthalates, or PVC. Here’s a quick rundown of their fun collection.

Hotels, Travel, Washington DCSalamander Resort

salamanderIt is so amazing to me that nestled a mere 50 miles from the nation’s capital is a fairytale horse country replete with rolling hills, vineyards, and small town charm. We were lucky enough to discover all this while visiting the area’s most luxurious and grand getaway, the Salamander Resort & Spa. The resort spans 340 idyllic acres with trails, horseback riding, indoor and outdoor event space. From the moment we drove onto the grounds, we were astounded by the peace, beauty, and elegance that seemed to emanate throughout the property. The hotel lobby is an refined mix of the genteel country and the luxury of an estate, and staff were welcoming and professional, ready to help with any whim.

SkincareL’Occitane pour L’Homme

l-occitane-cedrat-pure-cleanserIt’s not often that an inspiring men’s line comes up that my hubby will actually use and enjoy! If left to his own devices, this is the guy that will use bar soap (or even dish detergent if in a pinch, scary!) for his face and SPF moisturizer at night. So when I cajoled him into trying L’Occitane’s Cedrat line, I was completely surprised when a couple days into using the cleanser, he volunteered, “All joking aside, I really like this facewash. It just feels luxurious!” He actually looks forward to washing his face when getting off a long day of work. I love the scent as much as he does, and he even enjoys the gentle exfoliating beads. Cedrat, or citrus, originated from Asia and eventually landed on the shores of Corsica. The Cedrat extract from the pulp was found to have skin energizing properties. L’Occitane harvests cedrat during the winter months from a small organic cooperative on Corsica. The exfoliating beads are actually derived from lemon rind to refine texture and reveal soft skin. The scent reminds me of eating juicy citrus fruits in Provence in the evenings on our balcony, so for me there’s even a hint of romance wrapped up in it.
