Beauty, MakeupAll the Artisan Brushes

makeupforeverbrushes

MAKE UP FOR EVER has just put all the other brands on notice because they’re introducing a new Artisan Brush Collection that involves a whopping SEVENTY-SIX brushes. Seventy-six! I didn’t even know that many were possible! The brushes range from the kind that you’ll use every day to more specialized ones that you would only use on special occasions–there is seriously a brush for anything and everything you could ever want to do on your face or body. The creation of the brushes has been a five year process for MAKE UP FOR EVER’s Creator and Artistic Director, Dany Sanz: the construction of each brush involved twenty-five unique stages and each one was hand-crafted by a total of thirty people from beginning to end. That’s a lot of detail! READ MORE

Beauty, NailsFall for PixieDust

zoya fall pixiedust

You guys, there are new PixieDust colors for fall! I can’t even tell you all how happy this makes me – as someone who loves glitter polish far, far more than anyone who isn’t thirteen and into One Direction should, I can never get enough of the sparkly goodness that is the PixieDust formula.  It’s so fun and festive and it just makes me smile whenever I’m wearing it.  How can anyone resist a polish like that?  Here are the new shades that you’ll be rushing out to buy:

  • Tomoko – a champagne silver with a matte, textured sparkling metal finish
  • Chita – a forest green in a matte, textured, sparkling finish
  • Sunshine - a “Van Gogh” navy blue in a matte, textured, sparkling finish
  • Carter - a royal purple in a matte, textured, sparkling metal finish
  • Arabella - a rich fuchsia pink in a matte, textured, sparkling finish
  • Dhara - a fiery orange copper with a matte, textured, sparkling metal finish

These are all super pretty, but if I had to pick favorites, I’d have to go with Tomoko, Chita and Sunshine.  Tomoko is such a beautiful metallic shade–it’s definitely a “look at me” shade, but in the best way.  Though I’m not normally a huge fan of green or blue polishes, I also love Chita and Sunshine, a green and a blue that are just absolutely gorgeous–unique and eye-catching–everything you want in a polish when you’re in the mood for something out of the ordinary.

You can check out all the shades on www.zoya.com,  Grab them before they’re gone!

Beauty, MakeupButter London Branches Out

Butter London Eye Pencil Jaded JackButter London is one of my favorite nail polish brands of all time–not only are their colors fantastic, but the names are always fun and remind me of the six months I spent living in London during college. So I was super excited when they decided to branch out and release a makeup collection with all sorts of new products for eyes, cheeks and lips. So far, I’ve only gotten a chance to try two of the eye products, but I totally loved them and can’t wait to pick up some of the lip and cheek stuff soon.

The Wink Eye Pencil in Jaded Jack is a bright, almost neon, lime green creme.  I can’t say I have many occasions that call for this shade, but if I did, I would be all over it because I love the texture and staying power of it. Even if this gorgeous green isn’t your shade, don’t despair: the  eye pencils come in a lot of shades that are easier to wear, like Indigo Punk, a gorgeous violet shimmer, or Brown Sugar, a basic chocolate brown creme.

Butter London Cream Shadow Inky SixI also tried out the Wink Cream Eye Shadow in Inky Six, a baby blue shimmer. Lately, I’ve been really into the creme shadows because they’re super easy and very portable.  Indy Six is actually a very wearable shade that still lets you bust out of the neutral zone with ease.  The best part is that the products don’t break the bank–both the Eye Pencils and the Cream Eye Shadows are  under 20 bucks, which is right in line with some of my other must-have brands like Urban Decay, Stila and MAKE UP FOR EVER. Can’t wait to see more from this fantastic brand!

Beauty, MakeupMake Up For Ever Smoky Extravagance

mufI’ve always had good luck with MAKE UP FOR EVER and the streak continues lately with their new Smoky Extravagant Mascara.  It has a long-lasting formula that promises no clumping, and it uses a 4D technology to make a microdefining wax complex cover your lashes in ultrablack pigments (how futuristic!). The formula is supposed to add volume, length and curl. I thought that it did a great job with the volume and length–but honestly, I didn’t see a ton of curling. However, my lashes are naturally long and thick, so maybe it was just having a problem with that? By far though, my favorite part about this mascara is the brush–it’s fabulous!  It’s cone-shaped with a precision tip, so it separates lashes so as to avoid clumping, but it also means that you can get into the corners and make those lashes as easy to see as the rest of them. That’s not always an easy feat to accomplish on my lashes, so kudos for that.  I also like that the formula didn’t smudge or flake at all on me, so I wasn’t wearing more of it under my eyes than I was on my lashes.  Thanks, MAKE UP FOR EVER for keeping the streak going!

Beauty, MakeupEasy Summer Beauty with Jouer

Before I got my hands on samples of some of their new products, it had been a long time since I tried Jouer. I’m not sure why, but now that I’ve had some time to play around with their fun stuff, that’s definitely not going to happen again. Everything I tried recently is so fabulous that it’s now become one of my favorite brands.

jouerlipSummer to me equals even more time outdoors, which means that my lips have far more time to become dry and/or chapped than any other season (funny how that happens). I’m an obsessive lip moisturizer, so I’m loving the Tinted Lip Enhancers.  The Lip Enhancers are lip treatments that come in a cute little tube that’s easy to slip into your pocket or your clutch on a night out and are nourishing, conditioning and very moisturizing– everything you need for keeping lips soft and hydrated at any time.  They contain something called Maxi Lip, which helps to plump your pout while filling in fine lines. Each Enhancer comes with a hint of color to it–they’re not super pigmented or dramatic, but you can definitely see the tint on your lips– that make them just right to contrast with a smoky eye or for a casual daytime look. They’re just simple, pretty and easy.  The perfect summer lip product! READ MORE

Beauty, MakeupPlay With the Moondust

udmoondustAhh Urban Decay: it’s my go to makeup brand for a lot of different occasions, but I especially turn to them whenever I want to sparkle. Simply put, they make some of the best (and easiest to use) glittery makeup out there. So when I heard about their new Moondust Eyeshadows, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on them. Available in seven different shades, these are definitely not for the woman who’s afraid to shine because they are ALL about the glitter–you can see it in the pan and you can definitely see it when you put them on. But don’t be scared because they’re such great shadows for a night out since just one layer will do the trick (just be careful to limit fallout when you’re applying them because like any glitter shadows, that can sometimes be an issue). For extra drama, I like to apply them wet for a very pigmented pop of color. My two favorites shades from the collection are Moonspoon (a medium gray with bright silver sparkle) and Intergalactic (a medium purple with bright silver sparkle) but I could happily own them all.  You can also use them in Urban Decay’s Build Your Own Palette system, so that gives you the flexibility to package them with any shadow they make. I plan to make a palette of four of the Moondust shades.  Get ready to sparkle the summer away!

Beauty, SkincareAdd Some Zing To Your Routine

originsginzingI’m a long time Origins fan. I’ve never had a bad experience with any of their products and I almost always like them enough to actually repurchase when one runs out, which if you could see my beauty closet (uh, beauty garage?) would probably blow your mind because I have enough down there to stock a department store. So if you’re looking to pick up some new skin care products, I highly recommend the two new Origins “Zing” products.

The GinZing Energy-Boosting Moisturizer is, in a word, awesome. My usual issue with moisturizers is their scent, because some of them smell, well, gross: like chemicals or just plain weird. GinZing doesn’t have that at all: it smells amazing – a mix of lemon, grapefruit and spearmint. Whoever thought up that fragrance combination was clearly a genius because I need every product to smell like that now. It’s so energizing and uplifting–perfect for the morning (over your sunscreen, of course, because it doesn’t come with any sun protection, which is my only issue with it). The moisturizer itself is really light and it’s oil-free, so it won’t clog your pores at all. I just love the way it feels on my skin and how glowy it makes me– a new staple in my skin care routine.

The GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream is great for brightening up and de-puffing your under eye area. It (sadly) doesn’t have the same glorious scent as the moisturizer, but it does help me to look a lot less tired. (I rarely, if ever, get enough sleep.  It’s really terrible.  I wish someone would just make me go to bed early because I am incapable of doing it for myself). It has caffeine in it, which perks up the dark circles, and keeps me looking much more alert than I usually am before, oh, let’s just say… noon.  Another new must-have.

Now how many other Zing-y products can they come out with?  I’m eagerly awaiting more…

Bath & Body, BeautySalted Caramel Goodness

Uptown Soap Co Salted Caramel

Salted Caramel is my all time favorite gelato flavor. Done well, it’s amazing–sweet and salty and so, so refreshing (and addictive). So whenever I come across bath products scented like salted caramel, I get very excited. Uptown Soap Co. has a line of products in the Salted Caramel scent that they recently sent over and they now have a place of honor in my shower (also the packaging! Just look at it).

The line has four products: an Eau de Parfum, an organic body cream, a luxury bubble bath and a micro body scrub. I tried everything but the bubble bath and am totally in love with them. The body cream has a great consistency to it–thick, but spreads easily, and it absorbs instantly without leaving any greasiness behind. And the salted caramel fragrance is strong and delicious. I’ve been using it as a hand cream because even hours later, I can still smell it when my hands are near my nose. Luckily for me, the fragrance is an instant pick me up. The body scrub is made with sea salt and helps keep my dry summer skin flake-free, but it isn’t harsh like some other sea salt scrubs I’ve tried. (And again, the fragrance is strong, so a little goes a long way). After I’ve used these two, I layer on the Eau de Parfum.  I love that it’s a sweet smelling spray that doesn’t leave a chemical-y scent behind– rather, it just leaves me smelling like I rolled around in my favorite ice cream. (And how fun would that be on a hot day?)  Uptown Soap Co. also has some other scents that I’m dying to try.  How yummy does Black Honey sound?  You can check out their entire line at www.uptownsoap.com.

Beauty, MakeupI’m Blushing…

josiemaranBlush is one of my least favorite makeup items to buy. I don’t know why–it’s just so… boring (I know they’re important for a complete beauty look…but just telling the truth here guys!) to me.  So any time I can try a blush that’s a little bit different than my normal powder ones, I’m excited. Enter Josie Maran’s new Coconut Watercolor Cheek Gelées. These adorable little pots of color actually make blush (dare I say it?) kind of fun! First of all, the colors are just so juicy and irresistible and the texture makes them perfect for summer (try popping them in the fridge for a cool color refresh.) This gel blush is build-able with what I’d call sort of a thick gel consistency–you swipe your finger over the top and then rub the color onto your cheeks. It’s very easy to blend, so there are no weird streaks of color left behind (total pet peeve). The two shades I tried gave me a natural flush of color that lasted all day and didn’t dry out my skin (the gelées are infused with 50% pure coconut water, so they’re very hydrating). I also like that there are only six shades available–all the basics (pink, orange, nude, wine, red…) are covered, but you don’t have to stand in front of the display for an hour trying to figure out which of the ten pinks shades are best for you. I might have to buy all six of the colors so I can actually enjoy using blush again.  So fun!

Beauty, MakeupBrighten Your Summer

stila

I love summer makeup: it’s just so cheerful and full of color– perfect for lazy days at the beach or sizzling nighttime looks.  I could buy it all!

Stila’s new summer collection is one of my favorites this season. I’m totally obsessed with their new Countless Color Pigments. These little compacts of color come in almost neon packaging so they’re easily spottable in your bag, and each shade has a combination of three of four different colors in it. They’re all swirled around, almost like a watercolor painting.  Very, very pretty. I know it doesn’t matter if your makeup is pretty, only that it works, but still–it somehow makes it a better purchase if it’s aesthetically pleasing as well. The fun part comes in deciding how to use the shades–you can either put them on individually or swirl your brush over the entire compact, getting one mixed shade out of it. Either way, the colors are all gorgeous and fun. READ MORE
