Beauty, SkincareAdd Some Zing To Your Routine

originsginzingI’m a long time Origins fan. I’ve never had a bad experience with any of their products and I almost always like them enough to actually repurchase when one runs out, which if you could see my beauty closet (uh, beauty garage?) would probably blow your mind because I have enough down there to stock a department store. So if you’re looking to pick up some new skin care products, I highly recommend the two new Origins “Zing” products.

The GinZing Energy-Boosting Moisturizer is, in a word, awesome. My usual issue with moisturizers is their scent, because some of them smell, well, gross: like chemicals or just plain weird. GinZing doesn’t have that at all: it smells amazing – a mix of lemon, grapefruit and spearmint. Whoever thought up that fragrance combination was clearly a genius because I need every product to smell like that now. It’s so energizing and uplifting–perfect for the morning (over your sunscreen, of course, because it doesn’t come with any sun protection, which is my only issue with it). The moisturizer itself is really light and it’s oil-free, so it won’t clog your pores at all. I just love the way it feels on my skin and how glowy it makes me– a new staple in my skin care routine.

The GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream is great for brightening up and de-puffing your under eye area. It (sadly) doesn’t have the same glorious scent as the moisturizer, but it does help me to look a lot less tired. (I rarely, if ever, get enough sleep.  It’s really terrible.  I wish someone would just make me go to bed early because I am incapable of doing it for myself). It has caffeine in it, which perks up the dark circles, and keeps me looking much more alert than I usually am before, oh, let’s just say… noon.  Another new must-have.

Now how many other Zing-y products can they come out with?  I’m eagerly awaiting more…

Bath & Body, BeautySalted Caramel Goodness

Uptown Soap Co Salted Caramel

Salted Caramel is my all time favorite gelato flavor. Done well, it’s amazing–sweet and salty and so, so refreshing (and addictive). So whenever I come across bath products scented like salted caramel, I get very excited. Uptown Soap Co. has a line of products in the Salted Caramel scent that they recently sent over and they now have a place of honor in my shower (also the packaging! Just look at it).

The line has four products: an Eau de Parfum, an organic body cream, a luxury bubble bath and a micro body scrub. I tried everything but the bubble bath and am totally in love with them. The body cream has a great consistency to it–thick, but spreads easily, and it absorbs instantly without leaving any greasiness behind. And the salted caramel fragrance is strong and delicious. I’ve been using it as a hand cream because even hours later, I can still smell it when my hands are near my nose. Luckily for me, the fragrance is an instant pick me up. The body scrub is made with sea salt and helps keep my dry summer skin flake-free, but it isn’t harsh like some other sea salt scrubs I’ve tried. (And again, the fragrance is strong, so a little goes a long way). After I’ve used these two, I layer on the Eau de Parfum.  I love that it’s a sweet smelling spray that doesn’t leave a chemical-y scent behind– rather, it just leaves me smelling like I rolled around in my favorite ice cream. (And how fun would that be on a hot day?)  Uptown Soap Co. also has some other scents that I’m dying to try.  How yummy does Black Honey sound?  You can check out their entire line at www.uptownsoap.com.

Beauty, MakeupI’m Blushing…

josiemaranBlush is one of my least favorite makeup items to buy. I don’t know why–it’s just so… boring (I know they’re important for a complete beauty look…but just telling the truth here guys!) to me.  So any time I can try a blush that’s a little bit different than my normal powder ones, I’m excited. Enter Josie Maran’s new Coconut Watercolor Cheek Gelées. These adorable little pots of color actually make blush (dare I say it?) kind of fun! First of all, the colors are just so juicy and irresistible and the texture makes them perfect for summer (try popping them in the fridge for a cool color refresh.) This gel blush is build-able with what I’d call sort of a thick gel consistency–you swipe your finger over the top and then rub the color onto your cheeks. It’s very easy to blend, so there are no weird streaks of color left behind (total pet peeve). The two shades I tried gave me a natural flush of color that lasted all day and didn’t dry out my skin (the gelées are infused with 50% pure coconut water, so they’re very hydrating). I also like that there are only six shades available–all the basics (pink, orange, nude, wine, red…) are covered, but you don’t have to stand in front of the display for an hour trying to figure out which of the ten pinks shades are best for you. I might have to buy all six of the colors so I can actually enjoy using blush again.  So fun!

Beauty, MakeupBrighten Your Summer

stila

I love summer makeup: it’s just so cheerful and full of color– perfect for lazy days at the beach or sizzling nighttime looks.  I could buy it all!

Stila’s new summer collection is one of my favorites this season. I’m totally obsessed with their new Countless Color Pigments. These little compacts of color come in almost neon packaging so they’re easily spottable in your bag, and each shade has a combination of three of four different colors in it. They’re all swirled around, almost like a watercolor painting.  Very, very pretty. I know it doesn’t matter if your makeup is pretty, only that it works, but still–it somehow makes it a better purchase if it’s aesthetically pleasing as well. The fun part comes in deciding how to use the shades–you can either put them on individually or swirl your brush over the entire compact, getting one mixed shade out of it. Either way, the colors are all gorgeous and fun. READ MORE

Beauty, NailsSummer PixieDust

zoyaNow this is exciting!  Remember that fabulous PixieDust collection that Zoya put out earlier this year? Well, it was so popular that they just released a set of six new Summer PixieDust shades and they’re every bit as gorgeous as the first collection, just in brighter, in more colorful shades perfect for the hot weather. Here are the six new shades you’ll be obsessed with:

  • Solange – A glittering pale yellow
  • Beatrix – A glittering light orange
  • Destiny – A glittering pink-orange (pictured)
  • Miranda – A glittering raspberry

  • Liberty – A glittering dark aqua blue

Bath & Body, Beauty, FragranceSugary Lemon Goodness

vanillalemonThere’s a reason this site is called The Daily Obsession — there’s nothing better than when you find a great new… well, anything, to obsess over. It’s so fun, isn’t it?

Right now, my fragrance obsession is the new Fresh Vanilla Lemon fragrance from LAVANILA.  You guys, it smells sooo amazing.  (Three o’s for emphasis!) The scent was inspired by the versatility of Madagascar vanilla and also has notes of lemon, watery fruits and fresh bamboo: it’s very clean and fresh, but also warm and sweet at the same time. I also like that it’s subtle and not overpowering… because if it were too in-your-face, it would smell like you rolled around in a bakery and well, no one wants that!  Also, I love that LAVANILA infuses their scents with essential oils that contain vitamin-rich antioxidants instead of chemicals so they’re better for those with allergies or sensitive skin. The fragrance is limited edition, so get your hands on it now before it vanishes and you never get a chance to smell its lemony-vanilla goodness.  That would just be tragic.

Bath & Body, BeautyThree Whishes

When the weather is hot outside, I have to take a lot of showers because I find it impossible to get into bed at night feeling dirty from the day. (Ed. note: This New Yorker is so jealous right now.) I’m also on the lookout for great new products I can use to switch things up a little (hate being bored using the same ol’ thing every shower) and I’ve recently discovered Whish Body.

coconutSo far, I’ve tested the Three Whishes Body Wash in Coconut and the Three Whishes Sugar Scrub in Almond and I’m loving them both!  The Coconut body wash has such an exotic, tropical vacation scent to it — sort of warm and a little spicy, but the coconut note stands out and it’s intoxicating. When I use it, I can close my eyes and pretend that I’m showering in Hawaii instead of in my condo in Los Angeles. It lathers up nicely and a little goes a long way, so you don’t have to use a ton of it to get results, which I always appreciate.  (How annoying are those body washes that make you use like, half the bottle before you get any scrubsuds?  The worst, right?)

The Sugar Scrub is one of my favorite scrubs that I’ve tried this year. I’m all about the exfoliation, but I have sensitive skin so I don’t want my scrubs to be too rough or abrasive and this one isn’t at all. It has a delicious nutty scent to it and gets rid of all my flakey dead skin without taking off any “good” skin along with it. It creates a great base for your favorite moisturizer (maybe their Three Whish Body Butter? I haven’t tried any of those yet, but now I’m dying to!)  I also really appreciate the fact that the scrub is thick – it’s not liquidy so you get more bang for your buck AND there isn’t any liquid to slide down into your tub, creating a slippery standing hazard (I can’t tell you how many times I’ve wiped out in my tub from scrubs like that. I’m fairly convinced I’m going to wind up in the hospital one day after one of those incidents and that is going to be super embarrassing).

Beauty, MakeupLip 20

Kaplan MD glossI have what can only be described as an unnatural amount of lip products stored all over my condo. I’m not exaggerating — there are some in the garage, some in my bathroom, some in the hall closet…  Lip stuff takes up a lot of space in bulk! But even so, I’m always down for discovering a new brand because, really, can one ever have too much makeup?

Kaplan MD is a brand based in Beverly Hills and they were nice enough to send over some of their LIP 20 Treatment Glosses for me to check out.  LIP 20 is the first anti-aging treatment gloss that does a ton of different things besides give your lips a shot of color — it moisturizes, repairs, enhances your lip’s natural fullness and has an SPF 20 in them so you’re protecting them from the sun every time you apply it. I tried out three different shades – Tangerine Sparkle (a bright coral), Candy Sparkle (a light pink) and Plum Sparkle (a medium plum) and liked them all.  They also have an interesting scent to them — something like licorice maybe?  Hard for me to tell, but it’s pleasant and not overpowering, so that makes it a winner in my book, whatever it is.

The glosses themselves are a bit of a splurge at $30 apiece, but they do have a luxurious feel to them – they’re not tacky or sticky at all, and they really do moisturize incredibly well. Plus, they have a little mirror at the top so you can use it to apply the gloss if you’re running around.  Such a nice touch!

Beauty, NailsSprinkle Some Pixie Dust

pixieI try so many different products, sometimes I can forget how fabulous it is when I find one that I really love. And then something like Zoya’s new PixieDust collection comes out and I find myself squeeing all over the place and texting all my friends to tell them they MUST buy it. This is why I love writing about products so much — because when you find one that’s so amazing you want to shout it from the rooftops, it’s just plain fun.

PixieDust is a collection of six new shades with a super cool finish – it’s textured, matte AND sparkling, all at the same time.  (I know it sounds hard to believe, but I’m wearing one right now and that pretty much perfectly describes it).  Here are the shades available right now:

  • Dahlia – A sparkling black
  • Chyna – A sparkling red
  • Godiva – A sparkling nude
  • Vespa – A sparkling green
  • Nyx – A sparkling blue
  • London – A sparkling grey

Every single one of these is gorgeous.  Every.  Single.  One.  I’m currently wearing Dahlia and I cannot stop looking at my hands.  The color is super, super sparkly and you can definitely tell that it’s textured, but not in a very chunky way that can get annoying.  And I love that they dry matte – it gives the shades an extra something special that other textured polishes don’t have. Bath & Body, BeautyEscape to Coconut Beach

Farmhouse Fresh Coconut Beach Body Scrub

If there’s one thing to know about me, it’s that I love a good body scrub. Nothing makes me feel cleaner (especially after the gym) than a nice long exfoliation session in the shower. It always leaves my skin super soft and glowy and there’s just something so satisfying about the process. My new scrub obsession is Farmhouse Fresh’s Coconut Beach Body Scrub. I’ve never tried a Farmhouse Fresh product that I didn’t love and this one only extends the streak. It smells ah-mazing – the pineapple-coconut scent immediately takes me to a tropical island right in my own bathroom (at least until I get out and remember that I have to make my own bed!) I like that it gets all the dry skin off without being harsh and thanks to the shea butter and coconut water, I don’t feel like I’ve stripped my body of any moisture after I’ve used it. It’s also 90% natural, which is great if you’re trying to cut down on the chemicals that you put on your body, and best of all, it comes in a plastic jar. If you’re not a klutz like me, this may not seem like a big deal to you, but plastic doesn’t shatter (very important when you’re handling slippery products) and it also won’t hurt nearly as much if you drop it on your foot. (If I could only count the times I’ve done that…)  Love this one!
