We don’t use the word ‘ultimate’ here lightly at TDO, since the TDO seal of approval is hard to come by. Our testing process is languorous. We test products. We ask our friends for their opinions. We concur about the results. We test them for multiple days, in different situations. Sometimes, in an effort to create a control, we test products on only half our face (which is why I’ve come to prefer my left side as my “best” side.) But after only two wears, I’m ready and quick to bestow it upon Comando’s Opaque Matte Tights. They are the tights of my dreams–tights that aren’t actually tight. Much like their famed silky underwear, these tights feel like next to nothing, with a unique knit blend, which I can only describe using adjectives that sound oxymoron-ish. Words like light, dense, thick, comfortable, and a perfect black. These tights are as opaque as Anna Wintour’s eyes during a fashion show–impenetrable and revealing nothing, not a single line beneath clothes. And the best part? These tights are completely elastic-free, with a dig-free, wide banded waistband. So you can feel comfortable going completely commando this winter.
WHITLEY Designs is a handcrafted jewelry line based in San Francisco that has been recently spotted on Vanessa Hudgens, Maria Menounos, Audrina Patridge and Bella Thorne, to name a few celebs. The collection includes bracelets, earrings, necklaces (shown: Carly), rings, bobby pins, and one-of-a-kind reclaimed vintage pieces. It also offers pieces that are customizable via colorful charms, modern initials, and initial/zodiac discs.
Conceptualized by California-born sisters Whitney and Hayley Stevens (hence the name “Whitley”), the line balances Whitney’s classic style (she is a practicing attorney) with Hayley’s innovative perspective (she is an artist). Each piece is extremely versatile, layers well and goes with almost anything. We caught up with Whitley and Hayley recently to chat about their inspiration behind the line, as well as how they got it off the ground: READ MORE

The old elastic hair tie on the wrist isn’t just boring, it’s uncomfortable and unsightly — especially when it leaves a crease behind. Fortunately, Mane Message founder Olivia Hayward has done something about that. Her line of “bohemian chic” soft elastic hair accessories double as simple, comfortable and attractive bracelets in almost every shade imaginable. READ MORE
I’ve never thought to match my nails to my bracelets, but when I saw the latest collaboration between Essie and Baublebar, I realized that it just makes so much sense! After all, I pretty much coordinate all the other colors in my outfits! The jewelry brand has designed a set of limited edition bracelets inspired by Essie’s winter collection. Users pick their favorite nail polish and bracelet pair (or multiple pairs since they are all so fab!) and then mix and match with 2 other bracelets to create a customized stacked set. All 4 items, (nail polish, matching bracelet, and the two other pieces) come in a luxe pouch and is sold for $50.
As I’ve recently become a huge fan of of BaubleBar, I obviously had to get my own set. My favorite is the Snap Happy (pictured above) which is a beautiful and festive tomato red. I decided play up the gold on the bangle and paired it with the Cubic Cuff and Baroque Clear Bangle. It was hard to decide though and even just playing on the site is so fun. The combinations are (almost) endless!
For more info, check out the collaboration on BaubleBar.com and be sure to show us your custom creation!
Most of us here at TDO know of friends and loved ones that were affected by Sandy…and we encourage aiding those in need through one of our favorite ways – shopping! Here are some ideas to get you started:
- Joan Hornig, a New York based jewelry designer, has produced a special design dedicated to the victims of hurricane Sandy. This sterling silver “Build Up” necklace is priced at $80.22 with 100% of profits going to the charity of the purchaser’s choice. Joan Hornig’s collection is available online as well as at Bergdorf Goodman in NYC.
- Eva Hanusova, witnessed the effects of Sandy across her home borough of Queens, NY. Always eager to give back, Eva is donating 50% of proceeds from her fan favorite Dorset Tote towards the American Red Cross hurricane relief. Made from Rustic Oil Cow Leather for a durable wax veneer and vintage worn-in feel that only gets better with age. Available online for $239.
- KiraKira, a native of New Orleans is no stranger to natural disasters particularly since relocating to Japan to experience the tsunami in 2011. Now based in New York, designer Suz Somersall is strong supporter of various charities including Red Cross disaster relief. To give back to storm survivors, KiraKira is donating 20% from online sales to the American Red Cross to help with hurricane relief from www.kirakira.com. Psst – for those in NYC KiraKira is in Bryant Park Holiday Shops through the holidays!
- Chilean-born, Manhattan-based artist Sebastian Errazuriz created his “I Still Love NY” t-shirt after his studio was paralyzed from the storm. The debilitating effects motivated Errazuriz to give back by raising much-needed funds for Sandy relief. The water line that marked the walls of flooded galleries in Chelsea inspired this limited edition charity item available for $40 with 100% of proceeds going to charity.
