I’ve realized that the only true “me-time” I get on many days is when I take a shower, and my muscles release stored tension from work and family. The soothing sound of water pouring drowns out anyone calling for my attention and I’m in my own little world. Though it may only be for a few precious minutes each day, I have learned to efficiently unwind and also treat myself and my skin to a luxurious ritual, Molton Brown’s Pink Pepper Body Polisher. The new Body Polisher line is superb, with subtle differences in composition and texture for each- like a distinct personality! I love the energizing feeling I get on my skin from the spicy-sweet Pink Pepper, and the smoothness of moisturized skin is palpable even as the polisher rinses off.
This time of year brings back fond memories of a trip to France, with gorgeous and fragrant blooming lavender fields. I wanted to bring that back into my home this summer, and found two fantastic products to help me: C.O. Bigelow Lavender & Peppermint Candle and Soap & Paper Factory Lavender Clary Sage Liquid Soap. The delightful smells of cinnamon, Christmas cookies, and fresh pie are such lovely associations with this time of year. I love walking into the warmth of a home from the grey cold outside to be enveloped by laughter, holiday scents, and the promise of fun to come. philosophy captures the nostalgic smells of the holidays in the form of beauty (no calories!)- lotion, lip shines, and my favorite 3-in-1 Christmas cookie shower gel (also a shampoo or bubble bath) packaged in an ornament box. This adorable stocking stuffer is age-versatile as it would certainly bring a smile to a little girl’s face and same for grandma. philosophy gives back to the community by donating 1% of all philosophy.com sales to mental health efforts- so your gift gives gives back!
Naked Undies. This is the perfect gift for the girl in your life that knows how to unwind and relax in style (or needs that incentive to do so!). The essential loungewear line is unbelievably light and feather-soft, not to mention sexy! The Carly T is my favorite long-sleeve tee for its creative back opening- think two graceful semi-sheer panels overlapping for comfort and ease. This piece fits true to size and is flattering at just the right length without trying too hard. The fabric hugs skin but doesn’t feel constricting in the least, so it’s perfect for traveling, lounging, and rewarding oneself for getting through the holidays! The chic pieces can be machine laundered with care and come in a variety of neutral shades. Naked Undies was founded by two fashionable ladies from LA whose eco-friendly philosophy and charity go beyond the luxurious threads. I love their ideas for giving back, and ten percent of proceeds go directly to the animal rescue organization Banfield Charitable Trust. Naked Undies is a treat for a woman of any age, and makes every day into a spa day whether that’s on the to-do list or not!
Have you heard of Olivina? This Napa Valley-based beauty company is inspired by the ingredients that surrounds them and handcrafts their products in the USA. I’ve been much more mindful of the ingredients of products that I’m putting on my body, and love that these vegetable-based products are thoughtfully formulated free of parabens, phthalates, petroleum and SLS. Even better, they’re packaged in PET plastic (the gold standard in recyclable containers!). READ MORE
I love the nostalgia of classic New York institutions, and C.O. Bigelow Apothecary is one of the quintessential neighborhood mainstays which remains trendy and relevant today. Whenever I’m in the Village and have some time to kill, I always stop by and leave with some goodies, my all-time favorites being their eponymous collection of soaps and lotions. I appreciate that the formulas are time-tested and high quality, so I can count on them to cleanse without drying, moisturize without being greasy, and basically do their job while lifting my mood with delicious scents. One of my favorite lines this summer is the collection of Mentha Lip Shine glosses. These natural mint-filled glosses nourish like crazy while cooling the lips. It feels glorious as soon as I have a layer on, and the shine stays even overnight (tried and true!).
Oh, Kate Spade… How I love your bags and how I wish I could afford to buy more of them…
Luckily for me, when I can’t buy bags, I default to buying other things, which has led to me trying my first Kate Spade fragrance, Live Colorfully. It’s right up my alley–a citrus floral–and it reminds me of summer and vacation and always puts me in a great mood whenever I spritz it on. With notes of tiare flower, golden gardenia, coconut water, sheer amber, radiant musks and Tahitian vanilla, the perfume sounds amazing, right? Trust me, it is. It’s very tropical but a little sweet as well and I can definitely smell both the floral and the citrus on me when I’m wearing it. It’s the perfect date night scent, but I’ve also been wearing it during the day and it’s not too strong or overwhelming at all. How to describe it best? Unique and feminine – just like Kate Spade herself!
Mio’s Future Proof Firming Active Body Butter is one of my favorites when I need a heavy-duty shot of moisture. The thick and creamy formula works overtime for up to 24 hours to banish my dry patches and cover my whole body with a seemingly new smoother, glowing skin. There’s a fine line between a saturated body butter which achieves ultimate richness and one with a pastelike consistency, and Future Proof maximizes its lushness without sacrificing smooth and simple application. Organic Argan Kernel Oil is one of Future Proof’s many unique ingredients which is packed with Omegas and proteins to improve inner strength and elasticity while moisturizing and feeding skin.
