Beauty, Eco & Organic, SkincareHollyBeth Organics

organicFresh, garden-grown, and organic are usually the words you’ll find in a specialty market for produce, but living a healthy lifestyle demands the same standards for skincare. After all, aren’t the creams, washes, and treatments we put on our face penetrating into our pores and being absorbed to be effective? HollyBeth Organics is an artisan line which is USDA-certified organic and ingredients are grown from a garden and not a laboratory! The creator, HollyBeth Anderson, has culled knowledge from fifty years of international travel, skincare testing and research to create her boutique line which is focused on safe and effective nature-based treatments. She has taken from each culture what they do best- essential oils and organic practices from France, and healing herbs from Latin America. Her recipes are based on traditional homeopathic remedies and are created carefully in small batches.

Beauty, MakeupbareSkin Foundation

bareminerals_bareskinIt’s pretty difficult to rethink foundation–after all, you just squeeze some out of the bottle, rub all over your face, and (hopefully) admire it’s radiant, better-than-natural finish then get on with your day, right? Well BareMinerals wants you to think otherwise with the new launch of bareSkin foundation.

bareSkin doesn’t have any water, oils, or silicone in the formulation–instead this “serum foundation” is formulated with jojoba coated mineral pigments suspended in a coconut-derived base. The result is an ultra-ultra-lightweight product that provides (up-to) full coverage. But don’t think you can just apply this innovative product any ol’ way: the foundation is paired with bareMineral’s Perfecting Face brush, which once again, probably doesn’t look like anything you’ve seen before. The brush is engineered with a unique fluid reservoir, which is where you drop one drop (yeah you read that right) of the bareSkin foundation. Then the soft surrounding bristles buff the liquid into skin for 100% seamless application. If you want more coverage, simply drop 2 drop into the reservoir–but don’t overdo it: just one drop amply covered more than half my face and did a noticeably good job at covering redness.

Beauty, SkincareJuara: Beauty in Turmeric

maskI always keep an ear out for nature’s secrets for staying young, so after hearing about Turmeric’s ability to detoxify, rejuvenate, and brighten the skin, I took a closer look. Turmeric is a variety of ginger which can stop the oxidation and aging of skin cells, allowing them to live in a healthier and rejuvenated condition. It’s been used since ancient times in the Indonesian culture as a beauty treatment for royalty and also to cure ailments inside and out. The Juara skincare line is based on natural herbs, plants and fruits with no preservatives, using natural ingredients to treat skin issues. Their Turmeric Antioxidant Radiance Mask is a non-drying mud mask treatment that detoxifies, brightens and strengthens stressed, tired and dull skin, and I just can’t get enough of it. I have it on as I’m typing (multi-tasking at its best!), and the cooling tingle is positively addictive. The active botanicals are hard at work and the feeling is akin to endorphins after a workout, but for your face. The brightness and softness is immediately palpable following the treatment, and on the days I don’t use the mask, I’m counting down.

BeautyEstelle and Thild Repairing Oil Complex

Estelle and Thild

It’s no secret that we have a love affair with oils. In fact, all winter, we’ve been rotating through five or so faves in our routine, but now that the days are warmer and humidity is starting to become a real threat, we’re trading in our heavy duty oils for something lighter. Enter Estelle & Thild, a luxury organic beauty brand from Stockholm that’s made its way stateside by way of Net-A-Porter. One of their key products, the Super Bio-Active Repairing Oil Complex is our new must-have oil for the season.

The delicately scented oil is so light and dry that it instantly absorbs into skin, leaving it a smooth, velvety texture akin to the best primer. The oil not only feels great, it’s also great for moisturizing and anti-aging, working to improve skin long term. The oil is infused with the brand’s microalgae-based ingredients which helps to even skin tone, boost collagen production, increase elasticity and soften fine lines while combatting free radial damage. The result is a youthful glow that reflects both the oil’s finish on the skin as well as the improved health of your dermis with regular use. You can use the oil both morning and evening–the oil works well under makeup, giving it a smoother look as well as an overnight treatment. And the product is so lightweight and easily absorbed that it’ll never come off or stain your bedding. The best part? It’s ideal for use during the warmer months because it will never leave you looking greasy.

For more info, check out the product exclusively on Net-A-Porter.

Beauty, HairWhy You Should be Swapping out your Daily Shampoo with Ojon Co-Wash

ojon_cowashThere are some beauty rules that you know you should follow because they’re good for you…but it’s just so damn hard! For example, the shampooing every day thing. 10 out of 10 hairdressers agree you shouldn’t wash your hair every day because it’ll strip your hair of beneficial natural oils and wear down the strands, but changing that habit can be really hard, especially if you enjoy your daily shower routine. Well, thanks to the new Ojon Rare Blend Cleansing Conditioner (also called Co-Wash), you can go on as you normally do and not have to worry about the effects of using too much shampoo–simply swap out your shampoo/conditioner combo every other day and use the co-wash instead. This amazing alternative to lathering shampoo and conditioner will leave hair glossy, smooth and refreshed without stripping it of any of the natural oils that shampoo does. The low lather formula is sulfate free and made with a blend of 5 oils which softens and nourishes hair and boosts shine. It has a fantastic light fragrance and makes washing your hair feel like a luxurious little ritual–and best of all, you don’t have to worry that you’re “doing it wrong.” Thanks Ojon for making practicing good beauty habits so easy!

Bath & Body, Beauty, Fitness & Health, MakeupThree Obsessions for Spring

hoodieI’ve been an avid fan of the women’s activewear line Graced By Grit for a while now and must share my latest obsession from their collection, the Head to Sea Hoodie. On every run this spring, I don what I refer to as my “second skin,” a super lightweight but hard-working piece of engineering which moves the way I move to allow for the most efficient workout possible. It’s perfect in the morning when there’s still a bit of a chill in the air, but even when I start sweating, I don’t feel sticky or heavy. Thumb loops keep it in place during vigorous activity while the shape flatters my body with its form-fitting longer length. I love that the UPF 50+ rating saves me from having stubborn tan lines or having to slather smelly sunscreen all over.

Beauty, MakeupPick Up Some Stila Spring

stila_spring_2014_smudge_sticks

Ah, Stila…one of my true makeup loves–and definitely one of the only brands I would ever consider getting out of bed super early for (when it’s still dark out!) to attend their warehouse sale (true story). Anyway, this was just to say–in case it wasn’t already totally obvious–that I’m obsessed. One of my favorite products is their Smudge Sticks, so you can imagine that I could barely contain my delight over the fact that they came out with a TON of new shades for spring. They introduced a whopping twenty-two new shades!  For those of you who haven’t had the privilege of using a Smudge Stick yet, they’re some of the best eye liners around.  The shades range from black to yellow (yellow!) and the formula is fantastic. It applies easily, blends with a swipe of your finger, and stays on all day and night. Oh, and did I mention that it’s waterproof?  I’m so happy about all the new shades too. If I had any issue with the Smudge Sticks at all before, it was the fact that there wasn’t a ton of variety in the shades, but they’ve managed to correct that basically overnight.  I adore the new Deep Burgundy and Black Amethyst for a good smokey eye, but Turquoise, Deep Fuchsia and Sienna are also really fun to play around with.  (Oh, who am I kidding?  I love them all!)

Also new for spring are the Magnificent Metals Eye Liners.  It was total love at first sight for me with these.  These are pure rock and roll and just made for a night out. There are four shades available: Metallic Black Tanzanite, Metallic Black Gold, Metallic Gunmetal and Metallic Navy and they’re all equally gorgeous. They all have what’s called a “blackout base” and that’s what gives them all such deep shimmer, and a  crazy intense metallic finish to them and you can use them in two different ways – as a liner or as a shadow, so they’re more versatile than you might think. If I HAD to pick a favorite, I would have to go with Metallic Black Gold.  It is such a stunning shade – I find myself sometimes just staring at it in the morning in my makeup drawer even though I know I won’t be wearing it to work.  I love the way it enhances my green eyes and makes them seem even greener than usual. It’s addictive! Find out for yourself at Sephora.

Accessories, Beauty, MakeupPerfect Pairing: Bobbi Brown “The Katie” Glasses & Perfectly Defined Gel Eyeliner

Bobbi Brown Glasses and Gel Eyeliner

If there’s one thing Bobbi Brown knows, it’s how to make women feel confident (after all, she’s made an entire career out of it). That’s why she’s launched a new collection of optical eyewear, because Bobbi knows that glasses should not be relegated to those “I can’t even deal” days. As a fellow four-eyed gal, I completely agree–in fact, why not make a statement out of it? Bobbi’s “The Katie” glasses in navy blue does just that–the flattering frames may be a retro throwback, but the punchy color is distinctly modern. With the focus on your eyes now, make sure you accentuate your peepers with some intense lining action. In fact, Bobbi says that properly lining your eyes is one of the most important things you can do for a gorgeous glasses look. Her new ‘Perfectly Defined Gel Eyeliner‘ packs the pigment, intensity, creaminess, and longevity of a gel liner with the precision and convenience of a pencil. Beauty, Makeup, NailsPerfect Pairing: Jin Soon Nail Lacquer in Pop Orange and Votre Vu French Kiss Lipstick in Social Death

Processed with VSCOcam with k1 presetI’m not one to talk smack on any reds (truly, I love all the shades) but lately I’ve been feeling like my go-to classic blue red could benefit from an extra dose of sass–a bit more heat. In response, I’ve gravitating towards fiery tomato hues that strike just the right balance between the season’s it-color orange and the glamour of a bold crimson. On my lips, I’m wearing Votre Vu French Kiss Lipstick in Social Deatha thrilling red that injects a bit more intrigue into daily life. Inspired by Tatiana Boncompagni’s book of the same name, the moisture-rich lipstick is meant to reflect the complex and glamorous intrigue of the story’s leading ladies. On my tips, I’m slathering on multiple coats of Jin Soon’s Pop Orange. Part of her new Color Field collection, the bold, creamy hue is inspired by mid-century pop culture but modernized for today’s fashion forward pack. Like all of Jin Soon’s polishes, this hue imparts a can’t-look-away high shine finish and long lasting color that’s already on its third week running. Try wearing both the limited editor lipstick and nail polish for a coordinated look that’s sure to turn heads and inspire conversation.
