As much as I love reds and golds, I am SO sick of them being all over every holiday collection. I have way too many of them already! So I was super happy when Zoya’s Winter Collection Zenith came in the mail and there wasn’t a red or gold to be found. Genius! It’s a smaller collection for them – only six shades – but it’s all icy blues, silvers and purples. Exactly what I was craving for the holidays this year! Here’s what you’ll find in the set:
- Mosheen – a astro ice blue topper, perfect for layering over other shades to change up the way they look.
- Dream – a deep space blue with holographic glitter (my favorite one!)
- Payton – a galactic cranberry with holographic glitter (so unique and pretty – definitely the only one in my stash like it)
- Belinda – a cosmic purple metallic
- Cassedy – a celestial pewter metallic
- Seraphina – a Polaris silver metallic
The whole collection is just really, really pretty. There’s not a dud in the bunch, which doesn’t always happen. And since it’s not made up of “holiday” colors, I know I’ll be able to wear it year round and enjoy it long past December. So far, I’m really batting a thousand on the holiday releases. Let’s keep it up, people!
I work long hours at the office and go out a lot of times afterwards (I mean, who doesn’t need an after work drink..every day), so I really need my makeup to last as long as possible. Because as much as I say I’m going to touch up after work, I really only do it about half of the time (or less) because it’s just a pain. If I’ve already set aside time for makeup during the day, I don’t want to do it again! I’m just lazy that way, ok? So I’m really loving the duo of Stila’s new CC Cream Stick and Stay All Day Concealer. It’s quick, easy and gives me the look of a flawless complexion that lasts straight through after work drinks. It’s the perfect combo! (more…)
It’s been a while since we wrote about Dermalogica, which has been a skin care staple in the beauty industry for what seems like ages. But I’ve been trying a lot of their products lately because (disclosure!) I’ve been working with them as a copywriter. Conflict of interest? Yep. Should you read this anyway? Yep. Here’s why:
The benefit of writing for this blog, and for several other beauty publications over the past decade, is that I’ve been exposed to far more products than the average consumer. It also means I can provide an informed opinion on products based on experience, trial and error, and product education. I am generally skeptical, and only choose to write about products I actually like, regardless of whether they were provided for free, at a discount or by a client or employer.
So, with that said, Dermalogica has been rocking my socks off (or makeup, to be precise) this month with their Double Cleanse regimen. What is that? It’s their philosophy that to achieve “a professional level of clean,” you have to clean your skin twice. When I first learned about this, I thought, “What nonsense. Who wants to clean their skin TWICE? That’s gotta be bad for you.” But then I tried it, and I don’t think I can ever go back to a single cleanse.
The Dermalogica Double Cleanse consists of: (more…)
After a summer of barely there makeup, I’m embracing the change of season by returning to polished makeup–the darker colors for fall practically demand it! The first step to the new made-up me is flawless foundation and this season that is Smashbox Liquid Halo HD Foundation with Broad Spectrum SPF 15. Now that I’ve been spoiled with all those super natural BB and CC creams, I have a higher standard for my foundations–no longer will I accept anything too heavy, too cake-y, or too mask-like. Smashbox Liquid Halo HD Foundation is fabulous because it’s an ultra-blendable light texture that doesn’t coat or cake on the skin but still leaves behind a completely even complexion and that enviable glowing-yet-matte finish. The product is almost like a gel and formulated with Liquid Light Technology that acts as filters and diffusers to blur out imperfections. The foundation is easy to apply with fingers or a brush, goes on smoothly, and blends into skin easily leaving your face looking natural-but-better–a great product for everyday wear and the perfect canvas to show off those rich fall hues.
With my wedding just weeks ago, every little beauty move I make till then has to have a purpose and has to work! Gone are the days of just “trying out” products—from now till the end of the month I’m only sticking to what’s guaranteed to produce results. One tool that I’ve been using recently is the Olay Pro-X Microdermabrasion Plus Advanced Cleansing System, which is now my go-to product for cleansing and exfoliating. (more…)
MAKE UP FOR EVER has just put all the other brands on notice because they’re introducing a new Artisan Brush Collection that involves a whopping SEVENTY-SIX brushes. Seventy-six! I didn’t even know that many were possible! The brushes range from the kind that you’ll use every day to more specialized ones that you would only use on special occasions–there is seriously a brush for anything and everything you could ever want to do on your face or body. The creation of the brushes has been a five year process for MAKE UP FOR EVER’s Creator and Artistic Director, Dany Sanz: the construction of each brush involved twenty-five unique stages and each one was hand-crafted by a total of thirty people from beginning to end. That’s a lot of detail! (more…)
What do you do when your skin needs a lot of moisture but has a natural tendency to turn oily when you apply a serious product? Why, turn to the newest product from Dr Jart+ of course–Ceramidin Liquid Moisturizer.
Unlike your typical moisturizer, Ceramidin Liquid is an uber-light liquid that you apply with a cotton pad all over the face. Thanks to the weightless texture, the product absorbs immediately, leaving behind no shine, stickiness, or any residue at all. However, don’t be deceived by the watery formula–Ceramidin packs a powerful punch to deliver all day moisture. The key ingredient in the product, ceramide molecules, are essential lipids that are naturally found in the surface layer of the skin and help to keep skin healthy and glowing by strengthening the skin’s barrier function and locking in moisture. This product helps to hydrate by replenishing ceramides as well as deliver additional nutrients–licorice extract, panthenol, and aloe vera among others– to help relive tightness, nourish, and repair skin. The result is that skin feels great all day with no risk of teetering into greasy terrorist. A win-win for combination girls (and guys) everywhere!
You guys, there are new PixieDust colors for fall! I can’t even tell you all how happy this makes me – as someone who loves glitter polish far, far more than anyone who isn’t thirteen and into One Direction should, I can never get enough of the sparkly goodness that is the PixieDust formula. It’s so fun and festive and it just makes me smile whenever I’m wearing it. How can anyone resist a polish like that? Here are the new shades that you’ll be rushing out to buy:
- Tomoko – a champagne silver with a matte, textured sparkling metal finish
- Chita – a forest green in a matte, textured, sparkling finish
- Sunshine - a “Van Gogh” navy blue in a matte, textured, sparkling finish
- Carter - a royal purple in a matte, textured, sparkling metal finish
- Arabella - a rich fuchsia pink in a matte, textured, sparkling finish
- Dhara - a fiery orange copper with a matte, textured, sparkling metal finish
These are all super pretty, but if I had to pick favorites, I’d have to go with Tomoko, Chita and Sunshine. Tomoko is such a beautiful metallic shade–it’s definitely a “look at me” shade, but in the best way. Though I’m not normally a huge fan of green or blue polishes, I also love Chita and Sunshine, a green and a blue that are just absolutely gorgeous–unique and eye-catching–everything you want in a polish when you’re in the mood for something out of the ordinary.
You can check out all the shades on www.zoya.com, Grab them before they’re gone!
Recently I noticed that my hair, when air dried, was looking a lot better than it used to. Frizz, kinks, and the odd volume issues I used to suffer from were replaced with overall smoother, sleeker, and shinier locks. My day-to-day routine hadn’t changed so I knew that my hair transformation was due to one thing– the Rahua Omega 9 Pro Treatment that I had gotten done at Arte Salon a few weeks ago.
This is the first professional treatment from the uber-nourishing, organic hair brand Rahua and it promises to restore damaged hair in a thirty minute service that includes shampoo, conditioner, and an oil-based mask. The fifteen minute mask treatment is infused with omega- 9 rich pure ungurahua oil, which is grown and sourced directly from the Amazon rainforest. Ungurahua oil not only helps to strengthen and regenerate hair, but it also helps to remove toxins that may have built up in the hair, resulting in strands that are healthier and more nourished. The treatment also includes a head massage and Palo Santo (“holy wood”) incense, which helps to relax the mood. The overall treatment is quick and easy and hair is immediately transformed with long lasting (2 weeks and counting!) results. You can also maintain your treatment results for longer by applying the at home Omega-9 Mask once a week.
The first time I saw an electric toothbrush aside, it would be safe to say that I’ve never found any toothbrush to be *too* exciting. Until now. A couple months ago I was introduced to the Emmi-dent Ultrasonic Toothbrush and I have been obsessed ever since the first time I used it. Don’t let the word “sonic” fool you–this toothbrush is unlike anything else on the market. It’s the first toothbrush to use 100% ultrasound to clean teeth–that is, it uses an oscillating sound frequency–to break through plaque, gunk, and other bad breath culprits. And…you don’t even have to brush with it–the bristles transmit the ultrasound waves to clean teeth without any movement of the brush necessary. While your average sonic toothbrush might oscillate twenty or thirty thousand times per minute, the Emmi-dent makes up to 84 million oscillations per minute, effectively cleaning teeth without any back and forth motion necessary. Don’t let that number scare you either, you can’t feel ultrasound– the company however, did add a slight vibration to the brush just so you know that it’s on and working. Now, I also have nothing against a little brushing (in fact, I enjoy it), but the ability of the Emmi-dent toothbrush to clean without friction is great for people who have recently had any kind of oral surgery and need to be extra gentle in certain areas.
The toothbrush also comes with a proprietary toothpaste, which works in conjunction with the ultrasonic toothbrush to release millions of nano-bubbles to reach (and clean out) all kinds of crevices in your mouth. This is especially great for people who have had gum issues in the past (um, that would be me) because the bubbles can get underneath the gum to remove bacteria that cause inflammation. Of course I still have to floss, but ever since I started using Emmi-dent I’ve noticed that my gums are much healthier and no longer bleed. I also personally love the minty fresh taste of the toothpaste…it’s hard to get me to stray too far from my trusty Crest… but dare I say, this one has replaced it as my new fave. And as always, the true test of if a beauty product is legit is if my boyfriend is into it. Not only has he procured his own Emmi-dent brush head, but he fought me for the last bit of that toothpaste. It’s safe to say we have a winning product here!
