Recently, with the changing season (and more importantly, weather), I’ve been looking for a new gentle, yet effective cleanser to try. I’ve heard good things about the skincare line, VERSO, and decided to try out their Foaming Cleanser.
First, I love the minimalistic packaging. The simple black and white bottle, paired with the bold typeface…this is perfect for leaving out on the bathroom counter. If you had the entire line, it would look so gorgeous together for an immediately styled bathroom vignette.
The cleanser itself markets itself as a “soothing and purifying gentle foaming cleanser for daily use,” and after using it, I can say that this cleanser is exactly that. The cleanser itself pumps out as a thicker white liquid, and with water, it foams and lathers nicely on the skin. It has a very light clean scent that I found soothing, not irritating. It easily removed all light makeup, grime and excess oil from the day without leaving behind any residue. Most importantly, so far – no breakouts from using this cleanser (which can easily happen for me). A thumbs up for daily use!
I’ve decided to put on the brakes this summer. Not on everything- I’m still city-hopping, driving too fast, and staying up late, but I decided to stop aging! Of course it sounds facetious, but how to slow aging has always been a ubiquitous question. I’ve been considering a serious dive into what I refer to as investment skincare, and after getting some great recommendations from skin experts, I have finally settled into a stellar new routine. There’s no way I can get a facial every week or professional makeup done every time I go out, but I have literally put my face into the hands of the legendary La Prairie, a pioneer and gold standard in cellular anti-aging therapies. Their collection of lines and products can be overwhelming, but I’ve narrowed it down to two indispensable products which are easy to incorporate and give the best balance of results per investment. The products I treat my skin to day and night are the Anti-aging SPF 30 Emulsion and the Swiss Crystal Dry Oil.
Face oils have become popular lately, and the main reason for their superior effectiveness is that they lock in hydration and powerful nutrients in high concentrations. I’ve never even considered using an oil in the summer, as my face is already melting from the heat and humidity, but the Swiss Crystal Dry Oil is so light that a tiny amount covers my whole face and absorbs incredibly quickly! I was also concerned about looking super-shiny, but instead got a young, healthy glow. In my opinion, the dry oil is La Prairie’s best kept secret since it’s so concentrated and effective using only a couple drops. In other words, a bottle will last exponentially longer than a cream which is water-based. A patent-pending complex of Alpine flora found to survive in the Swiss Alps lends its natural secret of youth, powering the anti-aging abilities. Pure oils lock in hydration better than creams, so the formula is best applied right after a shower or facewash. The result is soft and smooth skin no matter which skin type, but works especially well on slightly dry or combination skin, like I have in the summer. It feels like the ultimate luxury to apply the dry oil, and I’ve loved the effects of the anti-aging complex on my skin as it repairs the daily stresses I put it through.
I usually eschew hair oils because my hair tends to produce enough on its own, especially in the summer! However, I was so taken by the stunning bottle that SHOW Beauty Pure Treatment Oil comes in that I couldn’t resist trying it, and I have to admit that I love what the lightweight treatment does for my hair. Since I’ve been growing my hair, the ends have been dry and more brittle, especially with the summer sun beating down. While the oil increases the elasticity of hair, it doesn’t feel heavy or greasy as I was expecting. The argan oil-based formula allows me to condition and strengthen my hair while making styling so much easier. The SHOW beauty line was designed by Tamara Ecclestone, a British model and TV personality to fill a void in luxury hair care. She worked with fragrance leader Givaudan to create the delicate notes of rose water and rosewood with creamy caramel and almond butter, blending in vanilla and patchouli. I find the fragrance light and pleasing, and not overwhelming.
You guys, I’m obsessed with Josie Maran’s Argan oil products. Totally, totally obsessed. My skin is sensitive and had been really red and flaky for some time (damn you, fickle weather!), so I tried applying her regular ol’ Argan Oil before my moisturizer at night and seriously, in about a week, all the redness and flakiness was gone. And it’s stayed gone.
So naturally when I heard about Josie Maran’s new Argan Daily Moisturizer SPF 47, I had to try it. Once again, a very wise decision. The moisturizer is great–it’s thick, but not so thick that it feels greasy or gross (my pet peeve in moisturizers with sunscreen) and I love that it has a high SPF. I’m very fair and burn easily, so as much as I may like some daytime moisturizers that I’ve tried with lower SPF’s, they’re just not practical for me if I plan on spending any time in the sun at all. But having an SPF 47 is a lot of protection for my average days since I don’t spend a ton of time outside in the direct sun (just enough that an SPF of 30 or below isn’t practical). I’ve been using it for about two weeks now and it’s definitely protecting my skin and keeping it really well moisturized (no redness or flakiness has returned!). It does have a little bit of a sunscreen scent, but nothing overwhelming at all and I find that it goes away quickly once I smooth it into my skin. All my fellow pale skin friends – definitely check this one out!
With the temperature hovering around what can only be described as “hotter than hell” in Los Angeles as I’m writing this, I’m taking the time to enjoy all the inside activities that I can right now. This includes mani-pedis because not only does it involve air conditioning (sweet, sweet air conditioning…) but it’s also a relatively inexpensive way to pamper yourself. And for my next mani-pedi, I’m taking along Zoya’s new summer shades – the Tickled and Bubbly collections. The Tickled collection is made up of all creams, which I personally really love for my fingers. Here’s what you’ll find in that group:
For my toes, I’m all about the Bubbly collection, which is made up of holographic sparkly shades that look fabulous peeking out of open toed shoes. They’re all so, so pretty that you’re going to have a hard time picking a favorite (I’m not even going to try). Here’s what you’ll find in the Bubbly group:
The new shades are all in stores now. Get them before they sell out!
I always pay a little extra attention to celebrity beauty secrets, especially if they’re accessible and easy to try out. When I heard about gorgeous model Josie Maran’s beauty line based around Argan Oil, I perked up and did a little digging. Argan oil is a plant extract native to Morocco which contains vitamin E, known as a savior for sensitive skin conditions such as eczema or rosacea. It can be used as on skin, hair and nails, and Josie herself uses it to keep her lips and cheeks moisturized and looking healthy and beautiful. Josie Maran’s Argan Infinity Lip And Cheek Creamy Oil combines the best of two worlds- the nourishing argan oil using 97% natural ingredients and a splash of color. The Argan Oil used in Josie Maran products is sustainably harvested and pressed by women’s co-ops in Morocco, which empower their members and protect argan forests.
Fresh, garden-grown, and organic are usually the words you’ll find in a specialty market for produce, but living a healthy lifestyle demands the same standards for skincare. After all, aren’t the creams, washes, and treatments we put on our face penetrating into our pores and being absorbed to be effective? HollyBeth Organics is an artisan line which is USDA-certified organic and ingredients are grown from a garden and not a laboratory! The creator, HollyBeth Anderson, has culled knowledge from fifty years of international travel, skincare testing and research to create her boutique line which is focused on safe and effective nature-based treatments. She has taken from each culture what they do best- essential oils and organic practices from France, and healing herbs from Latin America. Her recipes are based on traditional homeopathic remedies and are created carefully in small batches.
It’s pretty difficult to rethink foundation–after all, you just squeeze some out of the bottle, rub all over your face, and (hopefully) admire it’s radiant, better-than-natural finish then get on with your day, right? Well BareMinerals wants you to think otherwise with the new launch of bareSkin foundation.
bareSkin doesn’t have any water, oils, or silicone in the formulation–instead this “serum foundation” is formulated with jojoba coated mineral pigments suspended in a coconut-derived base. The result is an ultra-ultra-lightweight product that provides (up-to) full coverage. But don’t think you can just apply this innovative product any ol’ way: the foundation is paired with bareMineral’s Perfecting Face brush, which once again, probably doesn’t look like anything you’ve seen before. The brush is engineered with a unique fluid reservoir, which is where you drop one drop (yeah you read that right) of the bareSkin foundation. Then the soft surrounding bristles buff the liquid into skin for 100% seamless application. If you want more coverage, simply drop 2 drop into the reservoir–but don’t overdo it: just one drop amply covered more than half my face and did a noticeably good job at covering redness.
