Beauty, SkincareCaviar for the Eyes: Erno Laszlo

Erno-Laszlo-Phormula-3-9-Eye-RepairSometimes a lady just needs to be pampered with the absolute best. When it comes to the eyes, I feel like this statement applies more than ever, and here’s why: I was told many years ago by a facial guru (when I thought I was too young to have even heard of eye cream) that it was necessary to start even then to preserve what I had. The thin skin around our eyes is the first thing to show age. I took that advice to heart, and have always taken special care to research eye creams for high quality ingredients and superb formulations. I’m currently obsessed with Erno Laszlo’s Phormula 3-9 Eye Repair, a gel-cream  which is the “caviar” of eye treatments. Erno Laszlo founded the eponymous skincare line in 1927, incorporating his expertise on skin pathology to develop a treatments used on Hungarian royalty. Ever since, it has remained the gold standard for skin treatments and is a favorite among Hollywood’s elite. The emollient Phormula 3-9 preserves the skin’s texture and appearance (best to start while you’re young, but it’s never too late to catch up!) while providing defense against environmental stressors. My little beauty secret is putting the jar in the fridge, so when I apply, it feels cool and refreshing and tightens my under-eye bags right up (a necessity after a long night!). The gel component is non-irritating and absorbs quickly, and I can barely feel any weight at all. READ MORE

Insider's Obsessions: Ashley Wagner

The torch is off to its first spacewalk and we are three months away from the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi! To ramp up for the big event, let’s see what Olympic figure skater and brand new COVERGIRL Ashley Wagner is obsessed with right now:

ONE. Lorde — “She’s only 16 years old and she looks wise beyond her years. Her look is almost like a fortune-teller and her music is the perfect combination of moody and edgy.” (Lorde’s 17th birthday was yesterday, just after this interview.)

TWO. Finding the perfect big chunky turtleneck — “I need to get this staple into my wardrobe. Even though I live in California, I’ll be in Boston for Nationals and I want to be prepared.” Our budget-friendly recommendation: H&M’s Knit Turtleneck Sweater.

THREE. Olay Fresh Effects (S’Wipe Out!) Refreshing Make-up Removal Cloths — “I need to make sure that I keep my skin nice and clean. I take so much pride in my skin and even when I’m wearing lots of makeup for competitions, these take it right off.”

FOUR. All Saints winter line — “It is super comfy casual, but at the same time it’s nice and edgy and can be dressed up or dressed down. I should probably look for a turtleneck from them.” Oh hey, here’s one!

FIVE. COVERGIRL Flamed Out Mascara — “I love how it goes on so thick, which gives me a ton of volume and fullness.” Tip: COVERGIRL recommends applying more of this curling mascara on your outer lashes for a winged look.

BeautyGlossybox for Net-a-Porter

GlossyBox_AM_FINAL

When it comes to online shopping, Net-a-Porter is just the best: a luxurious, chic, and well curated discovery experience. And as far as subscription boxes go, that is also exactly how I feel about Glossybox. So it only made sense that the two would collaborate this month (finally!)–and their joint baby is just as wonderful as you would expect.

One of the fantastic things about Net-a-Porter beauty is their selection of hard-to-find, niche luxury brands. Even for a beauty editor that’s seen a lot of things out there, I still continuously discover new products on Net-a-Porter. The NAP Glossybox (limited quantity available now) lets beauty enthusiasts try 8 sample and full size products that cover all the beauty bases from sun protection (Natura Bisse Diamond White) to hair care (RGB Cuticle Oil) to color cosmetics (Kevyn Aucoin and Ellis Faas). Net-a-Porter calls this box “the essentials” and I would agree–it’s everything a chic beauty wardrobe should have. The box is priced at $40 for all 8 products, which is a steal considering just that Kevyn Aucoin eyeshadow costs $42.

Beauty, SkincareCold Weather Essentials from Burt’s Bees

burts bees

As the weather getting colder, dry skin begins to emerge for some of us, and it’s time to stock up on those moisturizing essentials. I love Burt’s Bees for their natural line of products, and two of my favorites to combat dry, flaky skin this season are:

  • Lip Balm – This is one of their classic products. I love it in all its variations, but the classic is hard to beat with its tingly, wintry pepermint-y freshness. The balm contains beeswax to condition your skin, while Vitamin E provides moisturization. It’s also affordable, which means you can afford to stock up. I toss one in my purse, and keep another couple on my nightstand and on my desk.
  • Shea Butter Hand Repair Cream – Yet another classic Burt’s Bees product! The texture of this cream is super thick, so it may take some getting used to. It’s also not my favorite scent, BUT the combination of oils (Sesame, Borage, Macadamia, Rosehip and Sunflower) in this product makes it insanely moisturizing. My dry skin that was flaking stopped fairly quickly after regular use, and continues to leave my hands soft and supple. A winter must!

Beauty, Fragrance, Makeup, NailsCrazy Paris Glamour

Guerlain_Crazy_Paris_holiday_2013_makeup_collection2

I’m absolutely ecstatic to be escaping to my beloved Paris for a few days this week! It’s been a year since I was last there, and when I’ve been away for a while I start to feel a yearning tickle under my skin for the charming streets, delicate pastries, and of course the effortless-chic fashion. I love Paris in all seasons, but autumn is my favorite time to go when the big tourist rush is over and the crisp chill is in the air making it perfect for tea and croissants in the afternoon. Before I take off, I always have to go over my wardrobe with a discerning eye (often leading to a frenzy), when I try to find that outfit that’s been waiting for the right moment to be taken out. Just in time for my trip, I have fallen for the only thing that could make me even more excited for the hop over to France: Guerlain’s Crazy Paris Holiday Collection. Each exquisite creation in the collection speaks to the glamour of Paris, inspired by the bright lights that illuminate the city at night. Guerlain is celebrating its reopening of its flagship boutique in Paris at 68 Champs Elysees, hence the “68” theme for the beautiful packaging of each piece. READ MORE

Bath & Body, Beauty, SkincareSpa Sonic

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Who knew an entire spa treatment experience could come in such a cute little package? No, I’m not talking about a mini manicure kit or foot soak. What I am referring to of course, is the new Spa Sonic is an all-inclusive polisher system consisting of a facial cleansing brush, a large brush for the body, a pumice pad for rough areas, and a facial sponge for microdermabrasion and reduction of fine lines. In other words, it is a full-body and facial treatment in a budget-friendly package, ready to give immediate results!  READ MORE

Beauty, MakeupMagnificent Metals

stilaeyeJust in time for the holidays, Stila has introduced a collection of Magnificent Metals Foil Finish Eye Shadows. They sent over five shades (out of the entire collection of 12) for me to check out and turns out, they are my favorite shadows that I’ve tried in a long time. Each shadow comes with a mini Stay All Day Liquid Eye Primer and a little tray–you put a drop of the primer on the tray, then mix some of the shadow into it to create a sort of pasty concoction, which you then press onto your eyes with the tip of your finger. That sounds complicated but it’s actually easy and pretty fun, and the shadows are so, so gorgeous. They’re so shiny with an interesting foil finish and they glitter more than any shadow I can remember using recently. It’s a glitter explosion!  (Which means that you should also be careful when putting them on so you know, it’s not a literal explosion). These probably aren’t the kind of shadows you’re going to want to wear to work, but for a party or a night out, you can’t go wrong with any of the shades.  I’m partial to the Titanium and Vintage Black Gold shades myself, but they’re all nice and I kind of find myself wanting to own them all.  (You know, just in case…)  So fun!

Beauty, SkincareLa Prairie for Day and Night

Every time I get my hands on a La Prairie product, it instantly becomes my favorite–whether it’s a blush (the best, really!) or hand cream. After all, with such luxurious ingredients like caviar and platinum and innovative, cutting-edge technology, the products always just work. This fall, I can keep La Prairie by my side day and night, thanks to two genius product launches.

la_prairie_eye_lipFrom work desk to dinner date, my constant daytime companion is their new Anti-Aging Eye & Lip Perfection à Porter.. The genius eye cream and lip balm treatments are wrapped up in chic, portable packaging that I actually enjoy showing off to anyone who will look. Both anti-oxidant infused products are formulated to hydrate, plump, and illuminate the eye and lip areas, combat skin damage, and contain light reflecting particles to banish the look of fatigue, dryness, and blur imperfections. The texture of the product is very smooth and elegant–I can’t stop applying it! Thanks go the convenience and genius packing of two products in one, the delicate skin around my eyes has gotten more love than ever before.

caviarnightmaskFor nighttime care, La Prairie has also launched the Skin Caviar Luxe Sleep Mask. I tend to save this $300 a jar product for special occasions but when I really need glowing skin, this sleep mask delivers. Formulated with potent active ingredients that are designed to work overnight as skin cells rejuvenate, this mask smooths, firms, exfoliates, moisturizes, and renews while you sleep. The product has the texture of a luxurious night cream and is applied with a brush for the ultimate pampering experience. Once applied, the product easily absorbs into skin leaving no residue that could get on your bedding. In the morning, simply rinse your face as usual and be astounded by smooth, radiant skin. Usually I tend to shy away from heavier products out of fear that my combination skin will break out but I tried this a few times and there was not a pimple to be seen. I trusted the Luxe Sleep MAsk so much in fact that I used it the night before my wedding–in other words, it comes highly recommended!
