Blueprint Cleanse

A few of my blogging friends know that a few months ago I Master Cleansed. That’s because I made the decision after we all had dinner with celebrity stylist Ben Skervin, where he spent half the time dishing about fall hair trends and doing Keira Knightly’s tresses - and the other half singing praises about the Master Cleanse. By the end of dinner, I had decided that was my last meal for the next 11 days and literally spent the next week and a half not putting any solids in my mouth. My skin got clear, my under eye circles went away, I lost 10 pounds (that I never gained back), but most importantly, I lost my crappy eating habits.
Not surprisingly, most people think the Master Cleanse is the most awful, un-healthiest thing. Nutritionally speaking, I can’t really argue with them. Yes, I made it through 11 days alive, but I don’t think I’m going to be able to convince anyone that subsiding on maple syrup, water, lemon juice, and cayenne pepper is the best thing you could be doing for yourself. We are not hummingbirds, after all. But I really like the results from doing a cleanse…if only I could find something that wasn’t so extreme.
Enter the Blueprint Cleanse - the IT cleanse that took New York by storm and is now expanding into the rest of America. Unlike the Master Cleanse, the Blueprint Cleanse offers you a much more nutritionally balanced approach to detoxing. Also, you are not locked into a 10 day minimum; you can Blueprint for 1 day, 3 days (recommended), 5 days, or if you’re really hardcore, 12 days. Instead of being forced to down 6 master cleanse juices a day, you only have to drink 1 (their spicy lemonade) and the rest of your day’s fuel is a mix of fruit, vegetable and nut juices. Also, instead of putting your body into shock going from beer, steak and cake one day to lemon juice for 10 days (and orange for 1), you can choose to ease into the Blueprint Cleanse as you feel comfortable. Of course, I went straight for Level 3, but if you’ve never cleansed before, Blueprint offers you a much gentler course. (more…)

I’ve been a long time user of electric toothbrushes - since high school - when my mom decided it would be something exciting to give me for Christmas. While I don’t remember feeling particularly excited about the gift, it did end up being one of the healthiest habits that my mom put me on. Well, six years and multiple electric toothbrushes later, I got another one as a gift and this time I was really excited.
I just got home from my late night workout. I’m been doing a lot of those recently since “going to the gym” is on my list of must-do’s every day, but procrastinating on this task is a lot easier to accomplish than actually going. This means that when I’m scrambling to the gym half an hour before closing, all the classes for the day are done, and I don’t have enough time to get a good weight circuit routine going, leaving me with no choice but to hit the treadmill.
Taking care of your skin is one of the most important things you can do, but with all the new products and innovations, sometimes it’s hard to remember exactly what you’re supposed to be doing to protect it. Since we’re heading into the summer, we decided to talk to Dr. Tom Mammone, Executive Director,
