At this point in the never-ending winter with snow in the forecast every week, I fear the groundhog was right and spring is not even teasing us yet! With romantic Valentine’s just past, there’s a lingering sweetness and hankering for all things pink and pretty. I have a couple favorites to share so we can all get through ’til the blooms peek out.
I’m convinced that Ahava’s Dry Oil Body Mist in Cactus + Pink Pepper was created with this time of year in mind, for both beauty and function. Just laying eyes on the beautiful pink frosted bottle on a chilly morning injects some of that elusive blossomy hue into my visual palette for the day. It’s amazing how a little color can warm the soul! A few spritzes of the mist absorbs instantly, leaving a satiny smooth feeling on my parched skin, especially on legs, knees, and arms. I really don’t feel oily or greasy, but still get the benefits of having moisture locked in with the Dead Sea plant oils. The unique light scent is feminine and sweet without being cloying, and is derived from the pink peppercorns of the berries of a South American tree. The cactus component offers its natural antioxidants along with magnesium, amino acids, flavonoids, and vitamin C. Jojoba and Sesame Seed Oils work with Vitamin E and Dunaliella Algae which are effective in smoothing and hydrating while protecting skin from free radical damage.
A couple weeks ago I hinted that I was undertaking a new (and different) sort of color project. And now I can finally reveal that it was in partnership with Valspar Paint and Ace Hardware! What, you may ask? Let me explain:
If you follow me on Instagram (and specifically on my #CHliving hashtag), you’ll know that I recently moved into a brand new, adult apartment. And so begins my newest obsession: interior decorating.
But while I’m all about “making up” my home now, I can’t claim to be the most experienced at this (yet). So, of course, I did what I know from years of blogging about fashion and beauty: hit up blogs and Pinterest for inspiration.
I realized that decorating your home is a lot like decorating yourself—there’s an endless array of colors, styles, and products to try. Some looks you’ll gravitate towards more than others—and somewhere along the way you’ll discover your personal style.
But while I could spend hours (or days!) at Sephora trying out new makeup shades, that experience has not translated at all when it comes to picking out, say, paint colors for my home. Until now that is—Ace Hardware is bringing the “beauty experience” to hardware and is helping to make all my pinned dreams a reality through their new The Paint Studio, which carries practically every color you could want from Valspar (over 700 hues) and Clark+Kensington .
The Paint Studio is designed to give customers a boutique-style shopping experience, similar to how you may shop for makeup or clothes. Along with a ton of mood-inspired palettes , you’ll get personalized attention from educated associates to help you find the perfect shade —Helpful is Beautiful! And of course—no beauty purchase is complete without sampling! You can buy pint-sized samples for $4.99 to test!
I took Ace up on the challenge and went with two Valspar colors to make over my new home. As with most Manhattan apartments, space is limited where I live, so instead of cluttering up my apartment with much furniture, I chose to define the different rooms with color. First, I painted my dining nook in Valspar Lavender Twilight, the most beautiful shade of lavender-grey (remember that color inspiration board from my first post?) and was surprised at how it instantly transformed the corner and made it so inviting. I actually sometimes sit at my dinging table and stare at the wall because the color is so pretty and soothing. Plus with its own color, the dining area has suddenly transformed from just an extension of my living space into its own rom.
I was so excited by the results that I chose to extend my painting project to my living room as well. Back to The Paint Studio I went and discovered that a light dove grey was a beautiful complement. This shade was also the perfect compromise for my husband and I: he wanted something super light (in fact, white) to keep the area bright and spacious while I wanted something that could add contrast and personality to the space. It turns out Valspar Modern Gray is light enough to feel safe if you’re nervous about color, but it still brings a multidimensional feel to the room. Plus, the hue goes with everything—especially that pretty lavender dining room. And remember, Valspar also offers the Color Guarantee so if you don’t like the first color you choose, you can have another on them.
Do you have a paint project to tackle? Be sure to visit your neighborhood Ace Hardware store to check out the Star Spangled Sale, which is taking place July 2-7 and offers Instant Savings of $5 off gallon purchases of Valspar and Clark+Kensington paint .
Disclaimer: This project was done in partnership with Valspar Paint and Ace Hardware, but all thoughts, words, and excitement over final product are my own.
Even though the days are warming up, it can still be cool at night. And lately on weekend nights, for me, there’s almost nothing better than cozying up with a throw, lighting a candle and catching up on magazines. I’m a big fan of Voluspa‘s Candles, and was so excited when they reached out about their newest collection, Maison Jardin.
The collection is composed of 4 fragrances:
Since I gravitate toward florals and citrus scents, I happily tried to the Sake Lemon Flower Maison Metallo Candle. This is a lovely tart scent, but the sake note tempers the citrus, preventing it from being overly sweet.
Their containers are so lovely, as well. This one has gorgeous vintage-inspired florals, and their double wick configuration always leaves the candle burning evenly. (Tip: Make sure it always burns to the edges to prevent tunneling and for continuous even burns.)
I have a love-hate relationship with spring cleaning. I procrastinate like crazy until I can’t stand the mess, then feverishly clean until I flop over, admiring and savoring the results. This year I actually looked forward to the Big Cleanup, thanks to the luxurious Caldrea Black Coriander Lime home collection which includes soaps, everyday cleaners, laundry detergents, and more. The fragrance is a beautiful mix of natural essential oils including lime, black peppercorn, and cardamom which actually make mopping more like a journey for the imagination than a chore. I relish the fact that Caldrea incorporates responsible use of cleaning materials basing them in renewable natural ingredients such as olive, coconut, corn, or soy. Safe for both the home and the environment, I know that dirt and grime will be gone without leaving traces of harsh chemicals around.
People often ask me if things feel different after getting married. Since my husband and I cohabitated for a year before we even got engaged, I would’ve expected to answer “no.” Well, I was wrong–and never did that become more apparent than when I bought our first water filter as a married couple.
My husband only likes to buy tried-and-true products. He is anti-trends. Me? I’ve tried everything from fermented gel lotion (it’s the next big thing), to sleep-mask self tanners (get on it), to long distance energy healing sessions. If I discover something new, I’m curious to test it out. 50% of my GChat conversations are essentially me sending links of products to my friends followed by “I want this.” My husband writes off my ADHD product obsession tendencies half affectionately, half mockingly as an effect of my “blog life.” Well, someone’s gotta try all the new things.
Spring is here (or almost here for some of you!), and that means it’s time for spring cleaning. This time of year, I always try to clean house and look for great storage or organizational solutions. The Land of the Nod has lots of chic options that work for not only kids, but also adults.
I really love the Charming Baskets, which come in stripes, dots and herringbone (pictured above). The pattern is modern, yet also fits into multiple spaces and types of homes. The patterns are great to mix and match, but also work well by themselves or likely with other baskets you already have in your home. Even better, these baskets are “handmade in Senegal, West Africa by Wolof artisans using environmentally friendly, sustainable materials;” it’s always great knowing that your purchase helps others and is environmentally-friendly. I’m currently using mine for random throws and overally, as a catchall for the living room.

Are you as over winter as I am? I’m craving sunshine, light breezes and spring-scented air… But since it’s still chilly, I’m turning to candles to bring in the scent of spring, while still providing coziness at home. Candles from Tocca are always a treat, and their scents let your senses escape to another place. These three are my current favorites! READ MORE
