Just got a tip from green celebrity nail stylist Jenna Hipp that she used HIPPxRGB Nail Foundation F2 topped with Nail Tint T1 on the lovely Scarlett Johansson at The Avengers premiere this week. (See “More” for a photo of Scarlett’s nails.) The result? A perfectly matched nude polish.
If you’re as deeply in love with nude nail polish as I am, this is amazing because it’s often really hard to find a nude polish that matches your skin tone. This is also why I’m obsessed with the HIPPxRGB collection. It’s the first line of skin-tone specific, full coverage, all nude nail color, conceived with the idea that nude polish should match your nails—kind of like foundation or tinted moisturizer matches your face. Thank you to Queen of the Quarter Life Crisis Jamie Stone for inviting me to a fun bash last night at Equinox in West Hollywood, where beauty bloggers gathered for an evening of braids, low-cal cocktails and bumpin’ beats (complete with a Dj and electric violinist!). This weekend, I challenge you to treat yourself with:
• Boho Braids at Blo—You too can be the “girl on fire.” Just saddle up to a stylists’s chair and relax for about a half-hour while they work a little twisted magic on your hair. I received a little triple-braid action (see left) that’s sure to last me a couple days!
• Refine cocktails—Um, pre-dance night drink? Make it two—especially since these are no-calorie mixers.
• The Spa at Equinox. It figures; I’m surrounded by sweating hard bodies, and all I’m thinking about is the lavender essence emanating from the spa. In any case, I recommend booking a massage, stat.
When I think of a 5-star culinary gem, I usually don’t think of a tiny strip mall by the freeway and a bill that’s under $200. This is what makes Papilles, my new favorite French restaurant, so endearing. Inspired by the bistronomique movement in Paris (uptown food meets downtown vibe), Papilles is one of the few places you can enjoy a rich gourmet meal and a fantastic bottle of wine for just under $60 a person—then stroll home in jeans and sneakers. (OK, I wore red Pour La Victoire pumps last time, but still.) (more…)
Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics. I was bound to get it someday. After getting my first taste of their amazingly addictive Lip Tars in celebrity makeup artist Kristie Streicher‘s chair this week, I instantly got some retail therapy. (Ahhhh.) Now, I’m considering buying the whole collection. (Um, does anyone have $300?)
Have you heard? Eyeko London — the brand behind Adele’s favorite mascara — has hit select Sephora stores in the U.S. (Pause for squeal.)
The cult fave — which also counts Alexa Chung, Courtney Cox and Emma Roberts among its growing celebrity fan base — is known for its amazing eye makeup products and its Mascara Wardrobe, a collection of formulas and brushes designed to let you tailor your results.
The Oscars are over, but after several nail-biting Oscar pools, my nails could use some serious red carpet treatment. A big thank you goes out to Julep, who anticipated this by sending over their gorgeous Julep Oscars Collection. With seven luxuriously rich shades, it’s hard to choose which one to wear first; but since Meryl Streep won Best Actress, I think I’ll start with her “natural, sophisticated gray crème.” (It also goes with my Julep “What’s Your Style?” quiz result: Classic, with a twist.) The Oscars Collection includes: (more…)
We recently caught up with celebrity brow specialist and makeup artist Kristie Streicher, who has an incredibly keen eye for stylish, often eco-friendly finds. In addition to grooming famous brows in New York City, volunteering with her father’s nonprofit organization (Divine Spark) and amassing what Vogue dubbed a “killer vintage wardrobe,” Kristie recently opened the new Kristie Streicher Beauty Bar inside L.A.’s Warren Tricomi salon. Here are her latest obsessions: (more…)
In the week leading up to the Golden Globes, all I can think about is Marilyn Monroe’s style. Actress Michelle Williams may face tough competition for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical (she’s nominated along with Jodie Foster, Charlize Theron, Kristen Wiig and Kate Winslet); but when it comes to who played the character with the highest chic factor, Michelle wins hands down.
Here, my favorite ways to channel Marilyn’s timeless look (clockwise): (more…)
Everyone’s been asking, “What are you doing New Year’s Eve?” Well, chances are I’m going to ring in 2012 at my favorite haunt of late: Bodega Hollywood. It’s one of the few stylish spots in the heart of Hollywood that will have no reservations, no dress code, no insane prices and no obnoxious clientele. Instead, it will have a DJ and a complimentary midnight round of champagne (yay).
Not your average wine bar, Bodega Hollywood is one of the few places in the area that successfully combines an uptown look (think The Standard) with a downtown vibe (your friend’s loft apartment). Two blocks south of the W, it’s a place where you can sip one of 12 reds or whites on the menu and groove to the sounds of Radiohead’s Reckoner while Sixteen Candles is silently projected on a wall in the background. Last night, I caught a glimpse of the always-gorgeous Jamie-Lynn Sigler with Joe Jonas, as well as Dominic Monaghan, while sipping champagne at the ultra-chic, intimate Sayers Club in Hollywood. The occasion: a private celebration of the GQ November music issue and the new GUESS online miniseries with the fashionable, Brooklyn-hip-hop-style-inspired Theophilus London, who gave a special live performance. Also in attendance were TV stars and hosts galore, such as 90210′s Shenae Grimes, and of course GQ Luxury Advertising Director Brendan Coolidge Monaghan.
Check out the miniseries exclusively on the GUESS Facebook page. And thanks to GUESS for inviting us to this amazing event!
