With the temperature hovering around what can only be described as “hotter than hell” in Los Angeles as I’m writing this, I’m taking the time to enjoy all the inside activities that I can right now. This includes mani-pedis because not only does it involve air conditioning (sweet, sweet air conditioning…) but it’s also a relatively inexpensive way to pamper yourself. And for my next mani-pedi, I’m taking along Zoya’s new summer shades – the Tickled and Bubbly collections. The Tickled collection is made up of all creams, which I personally really love for my fingers. Here’s what you’ll find in that group:
For my toes, I’m all about the Bubbly collection, which is made up of holographic sparkly shades that look fabulous peeking out of open toed shoes. They’re all so, so pretty that you’re going to have a hard time picking a favorite (I’m not even going to try). Here’s what you’ll find in the Bubbly group:
The new shades are all in stores now. Get them before they sell out!
I’m not one to talk smack on any reds (truly, I love all the shades) but lately I’ve been feeling like my go-to classic blue red could benefit from an extra dose of sass–a bit more heat. In response, I’ve gravitating towards fiery tomato hues that strike just the right balance between the season’s it-color orange and the glamour of a bold crimson. On my lips, I’m wearing Votre Vu French Kiss Lipstick in Social Death, a thrilling red that injects a bit more intrigue into daily life. Inspired by Tatiana Boncompagni’s book of the same name, the moisture-rich lipstick is meant to reflect the complex and glamorous intrigue of the story’s leading ladies. On my tips, I’m slathering on multiple coats of Jin Soon’s Pop Orange. Part of her new Color Field collection, the bold, creamy hue is inspired by mid-century pop culture but modernized for today’s fashion forward pack. Like all of Jin Soon’s polishes, this hue imparts a can’t-look-away high shine finish and long lasting color that’s already on its third week running. Try wearing both the limited editor lipstick and nail polish for a coordinated look that’s sure to turn heads and inspire conversation.
Oh, Zoya. You really do know how to satisfy my glitter loving heart! The new Magical Pixie Collection is a trio of shades with their trademark Pixie Dust finish pumped up even more with bigger glitter and their first ever holographic pixie particles. Does that sound amazing? Because it really, really is. Here are the three shades you’re going to be coveting:
I’m currently wearing Cosmo on my toes and it is a glitter explosion–you can see the different sizes of glitter (it sparkles an insame amount) and how holographic the finish is. The woman who was doing my toes at my salon couldn’t stop talking about it and even pulled a few of the other people there to look at it too. And the other two are equally as pretty, just in different colors. If you like sparkly polishes at all, you REALLY need these.
Also new for spring from Zoya is their Awaken collection. With delicious sherbet shades of purple, green, blue, pink, orange and gold, it’s the perfect collection to take you into the warmer weather. All of the shades just beg to be worn on a picnic or with a cute dress. The collection also includes a top coat called Monet, a multi-colored, cellophane holographic special effect topper and you can wear it over any of the shades in the collection (or any others you already own) for a super cool effect. Love this one. Bring on spring!
Well, here’s a novel concept: a nail lacquer so pure and free of chemicals that it doesn’t smell. While I usually tend to avoid sniffing polishes, I found myself bringing bottles of Scotch Natural up to my nose on more than one occasion in disbelief that I really couldn’t detect any scent aside from a very mild whiff of almonds. Crazy right? And that is how, through the unlikely sense of smell that I first fell in love with one of the most luxurious and innovative polish brands on the market.
Scotch Natural polishes are created using a unique water based (as opposed to solvent based) formula and are absent of a slew of chemicals typically found in nail polishes. In addition to being free of all toxins, Scotch Natural polishes are also vegan, cruelty free, gluten free, fragrance free, and paraben free. What’s left is water, an adhesive agent, and color–a rainbow palette of 43 shades ranging from the softest blush to the moodiest indigo. Now in time for Valentine’s Day (and for red-lovers, any day), Scotch Naturals has released a trio of their favorite reds: Tartan Swizzle, a vibrant magenta, Stiletto, a pink-red creme, and Whisper, a shimmery pale pink in a beautiful, giftable set complete with their Sticky Base Coat and On The Rocks high gloss top coat. The polishes are highly saturated and evenly coats the nail bed with just one swipe for chip-free color that lasts (3 days and going strong!). Added bonus: the polishes also seem to dry quicker than their non-toxic counterparts, now officially leaving you with zero reasons not to get on the better-for-you bandwagon.
“Natural-but-better” has always been my personal beauty jam, as evidenced by my penchant for BB Creams, tinted lip balms, and the only direction I gave my makeup artist on my wedding day. I also employ that philosophy when it comes to manicures. Although I love a dark dramatic polish as much as the next beauty enthusiast, in between trying to squeeze in salon appointments and at-home-late-night polish changes, I dare to rock a bare nail. Or rather, better-than-bare, thanks to my discovery of Julep’s Oxygen Nail Treatment. Equal parts tinted “nail makeup” and rejuvenating “treatment for thin, weak nails prone to breakage and peeling,” this product strengthens and protects nails while giving it a pretty, natural-but-better glossy blush tint. The treatment is designed to be used on its own without a base or top coat once or twice a week. The texture is a bit thinner than your average polish and smooths onto nails easily with the brush applicator leaving a high-shine finish that covers up surface imperfections. Apply one coat for a super sheer finish or two for a more opaque pink. My favorite part is that the treatment leaves behind the look of a professional manicure while taking all of three seconds per finger. The fact that it’s also good for my nails is just icing on the cake.
I’m absolutely ecstatic to be escaping to my beloved Paris for a few days this week! It’s been a year since I was last there, and when I’ve been away for a while I start to feel a yearning tickle under my skin for the charming streets, delicate pastries, and of course the effortless-chic fashion. I love Paris in all seasons, but autumn is my favorite time to go when the big tourist rush is over and the crisp chill is in the air making it perfect for tea and croissants in the afternoon. Before I take off, I always have to go over my wardrobe with a discerning eye (often leading to a frenzy), when I try to find that outfit that’s been waiting for the right moment to be taken out. Just in time for my trip, I have fallen for the only thing that could make me even more excited for the hop over to France: Guerlain’s Crazy Paris Holiday Collection. Each exquisite creation in the collection speaks to the glamour of Paris, inspired by the bright lights that illuminate the city at night. Guerlain is celebrating its reopening of its flagship boutique in Paris at 68 Champs Elysees, hence the “68″ theme for the beautiful packaging of each piece. READ MORE
As much as I love reds and golds, I am SO sick of them being all over every holiday collection. I have way too many of them already! So I was super happy when Zoya’s Winter Collection Zenith came in the mail and there wasn’t a red or gold to be found. Genius! It’s a smaller collection for them – only six shades – but it’s all icy blues, silvers and purples. Exactly what I was craving for the holidays this year! Here’s what you’ll find in the set:
The whole collection is just really, really pretty. There’s not a dud in the bunch, which doesn’t always happen. And since it’s not made up of “holiday” colors, I know I’ll be able to wear it year round and enjoy it long past December. So far, I’m really batting a thousand on the holiday releases. Let’s keep it up, people!
You guys, there are new PixieDust colors for fall! I can’t even tell you all how happy this makes me – as someone who loves glitter polish far, far more than anyone who isn’t thirteen and into One Direction should, I can never get enough of the sparkly goodness that is the PixieDust formula. It’s so fun and festive and it just makes me smile whenever I’m wearing it. How can anyone resist a polish like that? Here are the new shades that you’ll be rushing out to buy:
These are all super pretty, but if I had to pick favorites, I’d have to go with Tomoko, Chita and Sunshine. Tomoko is such a beautiful metallic shade–it’s definitely a “look at me” shade, but in the best way. Though I’m not normally a huge fan of green or blue polishes, I also love Chita and Sunshine, a green and a blue that are just absolutely gorgeous–unique and eye-catching–everything you want in a polish when you’re in the mood for something out of the ordinary.
You can check out all the shades on www.zoya.com, Grab them before they’re gone!
Even if you’re not quite ready to put down the coral lipstick and start embracing fall makeup just yet, we’re pretty sure this manicure from Jin Soon x Tibi’s fall polish collection will have you rethinking your nail colors at least. The manicure is deceptively easy to do, but will definitely turn heads because it just looks so freakin’ cool. Simply pick your favorite Jin Soon color (illustrated is Jasper, a shimmering burgundy) and layer her new matte top coat (Matte Maker) on the tips to add a sophisticated tone-on-tone dimension. Or, you can flip it around and paint a glossy tip over a matte nail bed. The great thing about Matte Maker is that when you apply a glossy coat over it, the nail will take the texture of the top-most coat.
“The Fall/Winer 2013 Tibi Collection is all about texture–I did not want to offer only one type of finish,” says Choi. “I’ve always worked with high shine and working with a matte finish has added different dimensions to the line.” The matte coat goes on easily and dries down to a smooth, rich, velvety finish. With 5 new shades (a burgundy, a silver gray, a shimmery black, a sparkling midnight blude, and a holographic olive green) and the Matte Maker, fall manicure options are endless (at least until spring comes around again). You can’t blame us for getting an early start!
The Jin Soon x Tibi collection is currently available at SpaceNK.
