Just got a tip from green celebrity nail stylist Jenna Hipp that she used HIPPxRGB Nail Foundation F2 topped with Nail Tint T1 on the lovely Scarlett Johansson at The Avengers premiere this week. (See “More” for a photo of Scarlett’s nails.) The result? A perfectly matched nude polish.
If you’re as deeply in love with nude nail polish as I am, this is amazing because it’s often really hard to find a nude polish that matches your skin tone. This is also why I’m obsessed with the HIPPxRGB collection. It’s the first line of skin-tone specific, full coverage, all nude nail color, conceived with the idea that nude polish should match your nails—kind of like foundation or tinted moisturizer matches your face. Okay, I admit it. I’m one of the only people in the world who hasn’t read any of The Hunger Games books, but in my defense, I’ve been really busy. (Plus, I’m going on vacation in April and I kind of want to put the trilogy on my Kindle for the long plane rides.) Regardless of that though, I’m super excited about the new Capital Colours collection of nail polishes from China Glaze. It’s a 12 piece collection that was inspired by The Hunger Games books and will be available in early March, but I was lucky enough to get 6 of the shades sent to me early and I’ve been having so much fun playing around with them. The Oscars are over, but after several nail-biting Oscar pools, my nails could use some serious red carpet treatment. A big thank you goes out to Julep, who anticipated this by sending over their gorgeous Julep Oscars Collection. With seven luxuriously rich shades, it’s hard to choose which one to wear first; but since Meryl Streep won Best Actress, I think I’ll start with her “natural, sophisticated gray crème.” (It also goes with my Julep “What’s Your Style?” quiz result: Classic, with a twist.) The Oscars Collection includes: (more…)
As much as I love the darker nail shades of the fall and winter, once I’ve been wearing them for a few months, I’m totally ready to strip them off and put some bright colors on my fingers and toes. China Glaze’s Electropop collection came along right in the nick of time this year. The twelve shades are all bold and fun, none of them boring, and they make me think of spring and the gorgeous shades that fill yards when the season’s new flowers start to spring up. (more…)
I haven’t gotten a chance to see the new Muppets movie yet, which I’m really disappointed about because everyone I know who has seen it has raved about it. But the only time I’ve gone to the movies lately, it was a choice between the Muppets and “The Descendants” and I’m sorry, Muppets, but Clooney wins in that scenario. I’ll see it soon, but until then, I’ve been passing the time playing around with their new collection from OPI. “The Muppets” is a set of 12 different polishes that were all inspired by the new movie and are out for the holiday season. I love the collection because it’s filled with sparkly glitter shades and tons of color – not many neutrals here! I love glitter polishes pretty much any time of the year, but I especially covet them this month when you can wear them to all of your fabulous holiday parties. Also, OPI has the best names for shades. They make me laugh out loud every time I read about new collections and this one is especially fun. Here’s what you’ll find in the collection: (more…)
Shiny Happy Holiday is the heading on the press release for the new Essie luxeffects collection and it’s so perfectly apropos that I had to use it myself. Luxeffects is a new collection of multi-dimensional top coats that Essie’s releasing for the holiday season. They’re meant to be worn a number of different ways – you can wear them by themselves for a sheerer look or layer them over each other or shades you already own to create your own unique look. It’s a relatively small collection with only five shades, but the colors are so pretty and feminine that you won’t feel like you’re missing anything. Here’s what you’ll find in the collection: (more…)
As I may have mentioned here before, lately I’ve been super into nail polish. I mean, I always liked it and bought a few bottles now and then, but sometime in the past year or so, that’s transformed into me obsessively buying entire collections and changing my nail polish at least once a week. It’s fun! I really haven’t narrowed myself down to any one color family either. Even greens, which I always thought I hated, have been appealing to me in certain shades. And if you asked who has made a lot of my favorite colors lately, Deborah Lippmann would be at the top of the list. Her fall and winter shades are absolutely stunning. I could seriously rave about them all, but I’ll try and restrain myself and pick a few favorites. (more…)
I haven’t watched the Miss Universe pageant in years, but there’s still a little part of me that remembers watching when I was a little girl and thinking how glamorous it was. (That was long before I knew how much work went into being that “glamorous!”) So of course I was eager to try out OPI’s new Miss Universe Collection. As collections go, it’s a small one, with only four shades, but sometimes I like the small ones even better because the bigger releases can get too overwhelming. Here are the four shades you’ll find in it:
- Congeniality is My Middle Name – a berry wine shimmer
- It’s MY Year – a champagne-rose
- Swimsuit….Nailed It! – a vibrant shimmery shiny blue
- Crown Me Already! – a silver sparkle
For me, there are two standouts in this collection. Crown Me Already! is just perfection. Calling it a silver sparkle doesn’t do it justice. It’s a silver base with chunks of bigger silver glitter in it so it’s super, super shiny and opaque. I love, love, love it. It’s definitely a head turner, so I might have to try it on both my fingers and toes at my next nail appointment because if you’re going to do it, you might as well go all out, right? I’m also slightly obsessed with It’s MY Year. It’s such an interesting gold shimmer with a rose tint to it. I’m finding it hard to describe, but it’s very, very pretty.
The collection is out in stores now, but I know that it’s selling out quickly (Crown Me Already! is especially hard to get ahold of) so if you want to grab them, you definitely shouldn’t wait. You can check them out online at www.opi.com.
I’m so enamored with OPI‘s new fall Touring America collection because it’s my dream right now to just pack up, take a few weeks off work, and head out for a long road trip to see the country. (Of course, I’d like to do this while also staying in 4 star hotels at night and eating at nice restaurants along the way, so I don’t know that my idea of a road trip exactly corresponds to what other people like to do on them, but I’m fine with that). Touring America has twelve new shades in it and they’re a really fun mix of lights and darks, brights and jewel tones – just enough variety to keep things interesting. The whole collection is great, but (of course) I have some favorites. (more…)
I love glitter nail polishes far, far more than anyone who isn’t a 12 year-old listening to Justin Bieber should, but I just can’t help it. There’s something about a glittery pedicure that just makes me smile and it’s such an quick and easy way to add some fun to your look. So of course I had to get my hands on Deborah Lippman’s new Get This Party Started set.
The Nordstrom exclusive is just awash in sparkles! There are three shades included – Happy Birthday, which had previously been released and is a clear shade with hexagon-shaped multi-colored glitter, Forget You, a black base with hexagon-shaped multi-colored glitter, and Candy Shop, a bubblegum pink base with hexagon-shaped multi-colored glitter. I like to use Happy Birthday on top of other shades – the clear base makes it perfect for layering – but the other two look equally fabulous and sparkly on their own. I’m totally obsessed with Forget You. It’s such a deep, rich black that the bright glitter stands out even more against the base, somehow managing to be both festive and sophisticated at the same time. (It’s going to be my go to shade for all holiday parties, I can already tell). Bring on the sparkle!
