In the interest of full disclosure, I haven’t seen any of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies, which I know sounds crazy since they’ve all been huge hits, but in my defense, I have gone on the ride at DisneyWorld a bunch of times. I am, however, totally into OPI’s new Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides collection. The collection consists of six new shades, plus a Silver Shatter top coat to go over them (or any other shade already in your collection). Here’s what you’ll find in the set: READ MORE
There’s nothing I love better in the summer than looking down at my toes and seeing a bright pedicure. It just makes me happy (especially when it’s coming out of brand new summer sandals!) This year, Essie’s new summer collection, Braziliant, is all about those bright shades, mixed in with a few pastels to keep things from getting boring. Here are the shades in the full collection: READ MORE
I’ve been in dire need of some down time and pampering lately, so I headed to the Nail Garden salon in Sherman Oaks for their Indulgent Bliss treatment. The Nail Garden is a chain of four salons in Los Angeles – branches can be found in Studio City, Sherman Oaks, Burbank, and their newest location, Brentwood. It was started by Reham Bastawros and her husband Fady because Reham, an admitted spa junkie, wanted to develop what she calls “an urban retreat,” where people could relax and indulge without paying a huge price tag. (Exactly what most of us are looking for, right?) READ MORE
So even though I grew up on the east coast and live in Los Angeles now, I have a strange, secret interest in Texas. But only like, the Texas in romantic comedies, where good-looking cowboys roam the streets and say “ma’am” in cute Southern drawls, not the Texas in horror movies where tumbleweeds roll around deserted streets and serial killer families take over small towns. I’m dying to visit Austin, but it just hasn’t happened yet. So, of course, when I saw that OPI‘s new spring/summer 2011 shades were named the Texas Collection, I got a little giddy.
Unlike some of their previous collections, this one has a wide variety of shades – there are colors ranging from blues to pinks to corals, but what they all have in common is that they’re bold and dramatic. There aren’t a lot of shades for shy girls in this bunch! And as always, the shades names are cute and funny – they perfectly match the shades inside. Here are a few of my favorites: READ MORE
Usually my nail polish obsessions wear off fairly quickly, but I’ve been totally crazy about gray nails for over a year now and the phase shows no signs of wearing off. The newest entry into my obsession is Estee Lauder’s Wild Storm, from their new spring Wild Violet collection. It’s the most gorgeous smoky gray, but it also has a hint of shimmer in it, which adds depth to the shade. I love how classic the gray nail is – it’s totally daytime appropriate, but it also looks great at night and it goes with almost everything in my closet. (I like playing around with funky colors, but I really don’t like the way it looks if I’m wearing say, a light purple on my fingers and then I wear a red jacket. I know some people don’t mind that, but it always bothers me, for some reason).
It’s a bit of a splurge at $19, but it’s a limited edition, so if you don’t grab it up now you may miss out (and we all know what a bummer that is). You can find Wild Violet on all Estee Lauder counters now.
If you’re already racking your brain about what to do for Valentine’s Day and all you’ve come up with is “Dinner out or dinner in?,” consider taking pause from all the hustle and bustle at a quiet oasis such as Spa Luce. A seasonal offering on the spa menu, the delightful aromatherapeutic Spa Luce Valentine’s Day Couples Massage, $370, gets my vote for best investment in relaxation. It features massages performed side by side in the couples room, a mineral-salt soak in a hydrotherapy tub built for two, and a complimentary bottle of champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries.
My nail polish phase just doesn’t seem to show any signs of slowing down lately. There have been so many fun, new collections released that I just can’t stop myself from acquiring new ones. (I am rapidly running out of room where I store them – clearly the solution is not to stop buying nail polishes, but to move to a bigger place).
Nicole by OPI has just launched a selection of Walmart exclusive shades, which is timed perfectly to my discovery that there is a Walmart less than a half hour drive from me (I can finally buy Hard Candy!) Here are the four shades you’ll find: READ MORE
Like I assume most women do, I go through phases with makeup where I’m super into eyeshadow or lipstick, and then that passes and I get a new product obsession for awhile. Right now, it’s nail polish. I’m not sure how long it’s going to last, but for the moment, I’m thoroughly enjoying trying new shades and getting WAY too many manicures and pedicures. (In my defense, I like the place near me that does them and it’s only $20 for both, so it’s kind of easy to justify). The two brands that I find myself reaching for the most lately are familiar ones, but I just love the new shades and how long lasting they all are, so I can’t seem to stop using them. READ MORE
I’ve been looking for the perfect deep red shade for awhile now (I have several that are contenders, but I wasn’t sure they were exactly “it” yet). My current number one choice is Illamasqua’s new Scarab polish. It’s a deep metallic red and after my usual two coats, my nails are this gorgeous dark red with a metallic shimmer to them. I really like it as a choice for the holidays – it’s a festive shade, but it’s also sophisticated – as much as I like glittery shades, I usually only wear them on my toes because they can sometimes seem a little too playful for adult occasions, but with this shade, there’s no such worry. You could just as easily wear this to work as you could out on New Year’s Eve, which is a good quality to have in a polish.
I’ve only been wearing it for a couple days now, so it’s probably not enough time to give it a true wear test, but so far, so good. No noticeable chipping at all, and I’m pretty hard on my nails during my daily routine, so that makes me very happy. At $14, it’s not the cheapest polish, but then again, it’s not the most expensive either. (This is how I justify most of my purchases, by the way). If you’re a fellow red polish addict, definitely check this one out.
