Giuseppe Zanotti at Bergdorf Goodman

Remember that time on The City where the girls went to Bergdorf Goodman to meet Manolo Blahnik?  Well, the famous department store is hosting another shoe event except with a designer I love even more than Mr. Blahnik: Giuseppe Zanotti! He will be there presenting his new collection tomorrow from 3-5pm.  No MTV camera crews guaranteed though!

Morocco (and Kelly Slater) on The Mind

Editors’ Note: We’re so happy to introduce our newest contributor, Charli Schuler, who is based in LA. She is not only stunningly gorgeous, but fabulously fun and fashionable. We know you’re going to love what she has to say about what’s obsession-worthy (and what’s not)!

I’m turning into an eco-geek and I am always on the prowl for light yet rich, organic moisturizers to quench my constantly dry skin. So far, Argan Oil, which is super-rich in fatty acids and sourced from the Argan tree in Morocco, has made two of my dreams come true: to moisturize with a conscience and to hug dreamy pro surfer Kelly Slater.

Wha? I’ll explain: Celeb supporters Slater and Erykah Badu were on hand at the Kiehl’s Earth Day launch of Superbly Restorative Argan Body Lotion, a smooth, light body moisturizer that smells ever so slightly of citrus and stars organic, fairly traded Argan Oil. Kiehl’s enlisted Slater, Badu, Adrian Grenier and Parsons The New School for Design to create limited edition label art versions of the lotion, of which 100 percent of the net proceeds will go to the Waterkeeper Alliance. (How’s that for eco-support?)

Head over to your local Kiehl’s store or kiehls.com to snap up the limited-edition lotions pronto (or just gaze at Kelly Slater’s photo). Also available for less moo-la: Superbly Restorative Argan Body Cleansing Oil and Argan Skin Salve.

Deal or No Deal?

Long awaited by luxury shoppers searching for a deal, theOutnet – the new sales site from Net-a-Porter, went live this morning. Of course, I checked it out the second I received the email. One of the major problems I had with the sales section of Net-a-Porter was that I kept spotting pieces that were 4 or 5 seasons old marked down about 30% when they had gone on clearance at Barneys months prior. Plus the stock was rarely replenished so I never found any good deals. (more…)

Berlin Comes to NYC

I was inspired by my friends over at the Jet Set Girls to set annual travel resolutions in the same style that they do.  To start, I resolved to hit up more places that begin with the letter ‘A’  in 2009, but since I was just invited on a last minute trip to Barbados, decided to go for the ‘B’s’ instead.  I’m excited to leave for the island on April 1, but also sad that I’m missing the few days that another ‘B’  place I’ve been dying to visit - Berlin - comes to New York City.

To kick-off a global celebration of the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall and mark two decades of change and creativity, the city of Berlin will bring its top fashion designers, filmmakers, musicians and artists to New York. From March 31- April 2, New York will be the first global city to host the “Be Berlin” campaign and “20 Years of Change: Berlin Days in New York City.” (more…)

Beauty Spotlight: DEX New York

When I went to visit my facialist a few weeks ago for my routine quarterly appointment, she was extolling the virtues of mineral makeup, praising its natural look and most importantly, the non-clogging effect that they have on their pores.  Although I was already a user of Bare Escentuals, she mentioned a few other mineral based makeup brands that I never heard of and recommended that I explore some others, leading to my discovery of DEX New York.

About the Brand: DEX New York was created and founded by Dexter Phillips, a fashion stylist and image consultant, who decided to go for the dream and found a cruelty free, hypoallergenic, ecologically friendly mineral makeup line that can make anyone look “camera-ready.”  Celebrities such as Carrie Underwood and Amy Poehler, count themselves fans of this all-natural brand.

Stand Out Products: The key product to any mineral makeup line is a good foundation, and DEX New York delivers with its Mineral Loose Foundation.  Infused with anti-aging technology palmitoyl hexapeptide-14, the consistency of their powder foundation, is finer milled than Bare Escentuals, resulting in more delicate coverage that is no less camouflaging.  Its foundation is also extremely forgiving, and diminishes the look of any fine lines around my eyes.  I love that when I step out in the sun with this foundation on, my skin doesn’t look cakey or mask-like, but instead the foundation naturally complements my natural skin tone and gives it an extra glow.  The foundation comes in 10 varieties of colors, so that you can easily find one that perfectly matches your skin. GlamList

We heard about a new invitation-only sample sale site called GlamList – and of course, we went to check it out. GlamList offers up to 80% off labels from France (i.e. not available in the U.S.). Of course, we wanted to sign up, only to find out that it’s super exclusive and instead, were put on a wait list.  So we waited and waited – and finally, we got our own invite!  Of course, we’re happy to share, so if you want an invitation, please email us at info@thedailyobsession.net with your email address in the body of the message and we’ll send one over to you!

Shobha Mix

It’s no secret that Shobha is one of my favorite salons around – not only because they have some genius products and stellar services, but also because there’s something about the space and people that’s just really cool. Maybe it’s how their rich jewel tones make every visit feel like a festive occasion, or maybe it’s how knowledgeable their staff is about what’s good for you, or maybe it’s just that sophisticated worldliness they have about them.  But I always look forward to my appointments and wish that I could channel a little bit of their style in my daily, non hair removing life. Perhaps one day I’ll have a magenta, orange and turquoise apartment, but until then, I’m going to have to emulate their style through ambiance.  Good thing Shobha just released their first Salon Mix, which you can download via iTunes.  It’s a mix of worldly beats ranging from Panjabi MC to Zero 7.  An instant favorite I discovered from them is a song called “Twisted Cupid” by Slow Train. Good for chilling out or rocking out, The Shobha mix makes you feel like you just got a peek at what the coolest kid in town is listening to.

P.S. Their 2 for 1 deal is still going on for a few days so make sure you bring a friend to check it out.
