Barbara Campbell is a jewelry designer from New York that finds inspiration all around, including from her homes in Brooklyn and the Hamptons. I really like how detailed her designs are, and her collection looks very unique. Each handmade piece uses an element that seems organic and natural, but the designs are all sophisticated. I think this combination brings a unique charm to her collection!

You can see the entire collection on her website, but I wanted to share a few favorites that I found (pictured above). First, from left to right, is the “Lucky Six” necklace ($150). It’s a cute 14k gold necklace with an twisted, interlocked design that looks like a blooming flower. Another piece that I liked was the Gravity bracelet ($125), with a dark quartz stone. This is a sleek piece that could perfectly complement a simpler, jeans-and-top type outfit. My absolute favorite is the Eva Shell Pearl necklace ($150). I love the hanging circles, and the shell material has a pearly, golden undertone that would make a great contrast with a summery top.

Visit barbaracampbellnyc.com to view more pieces and for more information on the designer herself!

As some of you may have noticed, I seem to be on a perpetual quest for the perfect eye cream. No matter how many times my aesthetician tells me that under-eye circles are genetic, I’m convinced I can beat them. And, no matter how many fantastic facial products I try, the truth is that those itty-bitty lines around my eyes aren’t in my imagination.

So, when SkinCeuticals sent over their eye cream for me to try, I was thrilled to have yet another potential miracle on my hands. After all, my favorite, highly-selective cosmetic store carries it, and my doctor actually started selling it. What better endorsement could I ask for?

True to its word, the SkinCeuticals eye cream has done more for the trifecta of eye sins (puffiness, lines, and dark circles) than any other product I’ve tried. Rather than relying on light deflectors and caffeine to make you think it’s doing more than it actually is, SkinCeuticals just pumps their product full of ingredients designed to help your skin actually repair itself. As always, though, the proof is in the product testing. Those itty-bitty lines? Maybe not vanished, but I definitely feel they’re less noticeable. My morning under-eye puffiness has improved, too. And those dark circles? Well, they’re still there…but I’m not ready to admit that my aesthetician is right just yet.

Pick up a bottle at SkinStore.com, and give it a shot for yourself. Let us know how you like it!

Taking care of your skin is one of the most important things you can do, but with all the new products and innovations, sometimes it’s hard to remember exactly what you’re supposed to be doing to protect it. Since we’re heading into the summer, we decided to talk to Dr. Tom Mammone, Executive Director, Clinique Research and Development and get his tips on how to keep your skin healthy and looking great. Here’s the scoop!

The Daily Obsession: To protect her skin, what products should every woman wear on a daily basis?
Dr. Tom Mammone: When we think of damage from the environment, we logically think of the sun first. But there are other, less obvious ways the environment can damage your skin. On a daily basis, our skin is exposed to lots of air and water pollution in the form of ozone, smoke, smog, dust and germs, and it’s the daily accumulation of these assaults that lead to skin issues like lack of moisture, rough texture, and looking and feeling less supple. So it is important to use both sunscreen and antioxidants. Clinique always recommends using a daily sunscreen, but you do not need to use an SPF at night. Antioxidants, however, combat not only immediate but also post oxidative damage and are very beneficial if used twice a day.

TDO: What number SPF is sufficient for the average woman to wear every day? What is the most common mistake people make when applying sunscreen?
TM: While in many cases SPF 15-30 is adequate, there are certain situations where it really can benefit to increase this level. As you probably already know, the SPF level really pertains to the amount of time a person can spend in the sun without burning based on their skin type. Many dermatologists have found that people often do not apply their sunscreens often enough or liberally enough and therefore have begun advocating the use of higher SPF’s.

TDO: If someone is using a foundation with an SPF already in it, is it necessary to use sunscreen as well?
TM: Makeup with an SPF can be used in the same way as a moisturizer with an SPF – to protect against incidental daily exposure. Neither should be used for more prolonged exposure such as a holiday at the beach or time spent outdoors playing sports, but they can be very valuable for daily use.

TDO: I’m a teenager starting my sun care regimen for the first time - what should I be doing?
TM: Clinique always recommends using a daily sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher. As a teenager, it’s all about prevention and using a daily sunscreen can help protect your skin from damage caused by overexposure to the sun’s harmful rays. In fact, overexposure to sunlight continues to be the leading contributor to premature aging.

TDO: When you’re out in the sun, how often should you apply sunscreen?
TM: The level of SPF multiplied by the amount of time it takes you to burn without sunscreen = the minutes of protection that you will get by using that level of sunscreen. If you’re prone to burning or intend to spend an extended amount of time in the sun, you should consider increasing the number. We recommend at least an SPF range of 15 –30 for both lighter and darker skinned people for daily sun exposure. While darker skinned people require less protection from UVB rays (which causes burning), they still need adequate UVA to protect against skin cancer. It is recommended that you apply sunscreen every 2 hours. A moisturizer with SPF or a daily sunscreen such as Clinique’s City Block is designed to protect from incidental sun exposure like when you walk around the city, drive in your car or get sun through your office window. If you’re going to spend prolonged time in the sun at the beach, skiing or playing other sports, then you should switch to a dedicated sunscreen such as Clinique’s UV-Response line and select an SPF appropriate for your skin – our UV Response line offers a range of SPF’s from 15 to 50.

TDO: Do the sunscreens that claim to be waterproof really work, or should we all still be re-applying when we get out of the water?
TM: For the beach, water or outdoor athletic activities, I recommend choosing a substantive, water resistant formula. These formulas not only maintain their efficacy in water, but are also physically more substantive so that they have a greater probability of adhering to the skin under conditions such as increased activity, sand rubbing on skin, etc. An example of such a water-resistant formula can be found in Clinique’s UV-Response line. In addition, apply an SPF product about 20-30 minutes before you head into the sun. If you’re swimming, reapply after getting out of the water. It’s recommended that you apply sunscreen every 2 hours. And don’t forget to apply enough!

TDO: What area of the body do people forget to protect the most?
TM: I’ve noticed that people often forget to protect particular parts of their body, including their lips, tops of their ears, nose, insoles and the tops of their feet.

TDO: For all of those people out there who like the bronzed look…will you still get a tan if you’re wearing an SPF?
TM: Yes, you will still get color even if you’re wearing an SPF, however, I would recommend using a self-tanner as a way to get a sun-kissed look. Clinique makes a wide variety of self tanners and has recently launched a gradual tanning moisturizer which will provide a natural, safe tan. With this moisturizing formula, we were able to provide mistake-proof application with maximum results reached within one week of daily use.

TDO: What are some self-tanners that you can recommend?
TM: Clinique recently launched a gradual tanner, Touch of Bronze Moisturizing Body Lotion, an every day body moisturizer that hydrates and soothes. This formula contains special self-tan technology and a low level of subtle self tanner (DHA) which allows you to customize the depth of color with visible results within 24 hours. What I like most about this product is that the formula helps strengthen barrier function and contains moisturizing ingredients to nourish skin immediately and over time.

TDO: What are some of your favorite makeup products that come with SPF protection already in them?
TM: As I mentioned previously, makeup with an SPF can be used in the same way as a moisturizer with an SPF – to protect against incidental daily exposure. Neither should be used as protection against more prolonged exposure. Clinique recently launched its Long Last Glosswear SPF 15, which is a great option for people who are looking to add SPF to their daily lip color.

TDO: How often should people see their dermatologist for skin cancer checks?
TM: The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends seeing your physician yearly for a professional skin exam.

Thanks so much for answering our questions, Tom. We’ll all be much better protected from now on with this info! I’ve found an easy, but sexy smokin’ shadow for day. What is it, you ask? It’s the OMBRE ESSENTIELLE Soft Touch Eyeshadow in Safari by Chanel.

Now, while I have plenty of smoky shadows that would work wonderfully at night, it’s a bit of a challenge to find a shimmery hue that I could get away during the day. This fulfills that quest. Arriving in a petite velvet pouch, the shadow is encased in the always luxurious Chanel packaging and comes with the standard brush applicator. The shadow is ultra-fine, soft and easy to apply; it doesn’t slip, slide or crease. I want to gush about the shade for hours, because it’s just that gorgeous. Safari is described as a “stone brown,” which really translates to a beautiful smokey taupe that is packed with shimmer (without being overwhelming). With a light layer or two, you’ll be all set for your entire day - and you can even wear it through cocktails and beyond. It just gives you a mysterious look that will make you want to vamp it up. Try, try, try!

I recently received the June issue of Lucky in my mail box and when I flipped through, I noticed a gorgeous necklace in their jewelry guide. Guess who made it? One of my favorite jewelry designers, Katharine Sise! I immediately emailed her and asked her for all the details on the necklace so I could write about it.

The Lizzy necklace is named after her two favorite Lizzy’s in her life. “Both would wear this piece well!” says Katharine. The necklace is made of a combination of sterling silver, metal chains and glass pearls. You can also adjust the length of the necklace with the pin (which Katharine uses in many of her designs). Katharine suggests that you can secure it in the back with the pin for a shorter look, or wear the piece “long and loose by pulling one of the layers behind your neck.” I love the femininity of the piece, yet I still think it has a bit of an edge! It would totally transform a silky black sheath into something infinitely sexier. Or maybe dress up a simple white tank and denim on the weekends. Looks like Katharine and I totally think alike, because when I asked her what she’d wear it with, she said, “I would wear this necklace to spice up a black cocktail dress, and the next morning wear it to brunch with jeans, flats and a tank top.”

It’s available in two sizes: small ($238) and large ($295). To order, email Katharine directly - who can even customize the piece with a locket or stone of your choice!

I don’t normally wear foundation, but my skin has been acting a little crazy with all the product testing I’ve been doing lately and I desperately needed something with a bit more coverage. So, I decided to give Estee Lauder’s Double Wear Light a whirl.

Before I begin, let’s acknowledge that foundation is not an easy product to pick out; you have to think about lasting power, color, hydration, etc. But Double Wear Light definitely helped me get a long-lasting natural look that I was aiming for.

Estee Lauder claims that this oil-free liquid foundation will “glide on fast, comfortably and evenly for a naturally-sheer, flawless finish that lasts all day - up to 15 hours without fading or transferring.” Guess what? It actually delivers, which is pretty amazing. A small squeeze onto a makeup sponge and applied it all over my face. Though it claims to be sheer, don’t let that fool you into believing that it won’t cover up any flaws. It absolutely will, because my irritated areas were masked easily. It also gave me even color, was super light and didn’t leave me oily (nor did it make me break out). The best part was that even though I apply it at 8am, it totally lasted til 10pm when I took my makeup off. I couldn’t believe that it didn’t budge all day.

Pick up a couple of tubes at Macys.com for $32.50. BONUS: Until May 16, they’re also offering free shipping and a free gift with a $65+ purchase.

The line was Tucker, designed by Gaby Basora. The entire line is centered around 14 core silhouettes - from a boat neck cap sleeve tunic to the sleeveless dress. Ms. Basora produces various prints for each of these silhouettes and each will seem indispensable. You will want them all - and then hold onto each piece forever.

I am 100% enamored with with Super Sunny Day print, offered as a camisole dress. The pattern of yellow leaves and sprigs is perfectly cheery and summery, while the silk blend makes it airy and breathable. It’s has a bit of a retro vibe, yet simultaneously manages to be absolutely modern. Simply throw on a cardigan and sandals for a sweet, yet luxurious day look.

Along the same lines, Tucker’s version of the blouse coveys effortless glamour. For a bright, fun splash of color, look no further than the Helen’s Patio print. The green silk blouse has an allover floral print with ruched bell sleeves. It’d be perfect with a crisp white skirt! Feeling a bit neutral? Try the Cache Tree print for a floaty, yet earthy feel. Toss on a pair of jeans and you’ll be comfortable and chic for the weekend.

I’m also always up for a lovely tunic to add to my collection. They’re so easy and versatile; plus, they can be dressed up and down without too much thought. I find the Tucker tunic to be most luxurious in the Egypt Desert Ride print. The subtle tonal dot print is natural, yet incredibly sophisticated. You could wear this belted over black skinny jeans, or if you’re a bit more daring, by itself with flats.

Head over to the Tucker website to view the entire line!

This new collection is a limited edition for spring/summer ‘08, so be sure to check it out! As the name suggests, the Gold Digger collection contains several sleek, metallic shades — but they are far from tacky or gaudy. The colors are warm, rich, and look and feel very luxe. I had the chance to try a few of the products, and here are my faves:

Lip Glacé in Bronze ($22): This is a copper-bronze shade that is very shimmery. My lips are a slightly darker pink, so on me this really brought out pinkish-brown undertones with a lovely shine. The consistency is not too sticky, and the gloss has a lot of staying power.

Nail Lacquer in 24 Karat ($15): 24 Karat is a pretty, shimmery gold color. One coat gives you a soft gold and two, a shiny champagne-hued shade. I honestly don’t vary my nail colors much (always sheer pinks or dark reds and plums), but this shade changed my mind.

Eye Colour Pot in Bronzed Gold and Solid Gold ($32): The Eye Colour Pots are little double-deckers — the top is a cream color and the bottom is a loose powder. I liked both the Bronzed Gold (a copper/bronze color) and Solid Gold (a more yellow-gold color) shades. Make sure you have the right brushes and you can use both to a sleek effect.

Take a look at the entire Gold Digger collection at lauramercier.com or fine department stores near you!
